    WOW thank you for all the feedback! It really helped. Last night I talked it over with my mom and FMIL and we are going to have it! Yay! They are both paying for it (So how can we refuse?) Its going to my at my in laws house, a backyard luau/bbq! We have a lot of family and friends who are not attending the wedding that we want to share with. I am very happy with our decision! As for the bridal shower, I was only going to have my sister invite those going to the wedding (didn’t really know the etiquette on this) but now that we are having the AHR she is going to invite everyone she would with a traditional wedding (if that makes sense). She didn’t send out invite yet but she is going to say something along the lines of AHR to follow...

    Hello everyone...We are having some seconds thoughts about an at home reception. I feel we should have it..my finance on the other hand isn't really feeling it. He said if I want to have one then we will have one. Its just that I know there are a lot of people that will not be able to make our wedding, so I feel obligated to have a little something back home. We were thinking of something casual, like a backyard luau or something like that. Just wanted to hear from you guys..who is actually doing this themselves and what the planning process is. We are getting married May 9, 2009, so we were thinking of having it in June or July. Also, if we decide to have an AHR, what do we do for the bridal shower? I was thinking of having my sister put on the bridal shower invites, at home reception to follow... something along those lines. Thank you!!

    I got ours at Weddingstar Heart Shaped Sand Ceremony Vase Set Its engravable and comes with a glass stopper for easy transportation home! Let me know if that link does not work!
