  1. I agree 100% that you should include your son somehow. I think it is something that is important for the three of you. My nine year old daughter is still upset, to this day, that she was not there when her father and his new wife married in Barbados. Keep in mind, this was 4 years ago and she was only 5 at the time. So even though, at the time, she may not have cared to go; it is something that she wishes she could've been involved in. She is so happy that she is my "flowergirl" and that she is walking me down the aisle. For the longest time; even before my FI and I had met, she constantly reminded me that she would be the flowergirl. Heck, she was even involved when FI and I became engaged! He asked her permission and gave her a gold heart ring after he proposed to me... All in all; whatever avenue you decide on, don't leave your son out of your big day.

  3. Hi girls, Just wanted to put my 2 cents in here. I was unable to get any realistic price quotes for room/air reservations for my October/09 wedding until the beginning of December/08. That was approximately 11 months ahead of time. I would seriously go through a TA if you want to try to book for the later months of 2010! Good luck with all your planning. Oh, and FYI...the Majestic properties are GORGEOUS! You won't be disappointed at all. Congrats to all of you.
  4. What a gorgeous and unique dress! Perfect for your DW! I absolutely love love LOVE it!
  5. Congratulations on getting THE dress! You'll look gorgeous in it!
  6. Hahahaha....too freaking funny! I too wasn't expecting that ending...good one!
  7. I think many of us have had this problem. I think I have heard every excuse under the sun the last 3 months as to why some family members cannot come to the wedding. Anywhere from "we'll be trying to get pregnant" to "I won't be able to get the time of work" (11 months in advance, mind you) to "we just renovated our kitchen so we can't afford it" (which is BS). I have started telling people to just tell me that they don't want to come and not to make thin excuses for it (not necessarily in those words). Surprisingly enough, all of our immediate family will be there except for one. My FI's step-father will not be coming. The excuse that we were given was that he has "leaky heart valves" and "he has already traveled before". Hmmmm...not so sure that we believe it entirely, there is not bi-pass surgery booked in the close (or even far-away) future and as my FI said, "he hasn't traveled to see me get married before". Oh well, we've taken it with a grain of salt and have gotten over it. However, if FMIL started complaining about the fact that he isn't coming then that would get me fuming mad! My Mother has a benign cyst in her brain which she has had for 6+ years now. She has to have a CT scan yearly to make sure that it isn't growing or anything. She is flying with us to the wedding and her neurologist hasn't told her anything that would contradict her flying in her condition. I think you and your FI need to sit down with your FFIL and his wife and have a talk about how they are feeling and how you two are feeling regarding the wedding. It's a shame that your FFIL's wife is talking behind your back and not even telling you and your FI how she and your FFIL are feeling. Maybe once it's out in the open there could be some compromises made? Is there anyway that you could set up a webcam so he could still be there? Are you having an AHR and you can recreate the ceremony there for your FFIL? Lastly, is there anyway that you can convince them to attend at all? I don't know, it's just a thought. Just remember why you two are getting married and why you chose to have a DW. Some people won't be able to attend. Some more important than others. The day is about you and your FI pledging your love and commitment to one another, not about what everyone else wants. Keep that in mind, and don't sweat the small stuff.
  8. I'm going to agree with everyone else and tell you that the orange is the best.
  9. Great find! I wish that Walmart in Canada had those awesome deals! I did however get mine from Old Navy last weekend when they were having their Give Back sale (30% off) and ended up spending $2.30 a pair! BTW, those are my colors too! I'm not adding anything to the flip flops but I think it's a great idea (for the girls anyway)! What we have decided to do is add a "thank you" tag with an orange and hot pink ribbon and have the size of the shoe on there as well.
  10. I did vote for number 4 but number 2 was a close second for me for sure! You are going to look gorgeous in it!! I checked out Jacilynda's dress from the same seamstress and it looks like you will be just as happy as she is! How exciting? I love dress posts! Can't wait to see your pictures of you in the dress!
  11. Congratulations! Welcome to the forum. You'll find a wealth of information here. I have been to the Majestic Colonial and it still remains one of the best resorts I have ever been to. There is lots of info on this resort here. Have fun planning!
  12. I absolutely love the Mon Cheri dress! The detail on the train is so delicate and pretty. It is a perfect flowy beach wedding dress. And, if it's the one that made you feel the most emotional...I'd say it's the ONE! I love looking at dress shopping pictures...so much fun!
  13. Like you, I was looking into the Paradisus properties...the prices there are a bit pricier compared to other resorts in the area. A gorgeous resort but when I put it out there to certain people that I would invite; they balked at the prices so I had start a search that would make us all happy! I went to a TA and had her go through different resorts in Punta Cana, as well as Jamaica and Mexico and then we went from there. The other thing to think about is what you are looking for in a resort. For example, I have guests ranging from age 2 up to age 65 so I wanted to find something that would accommodate everyone as well as have the perfect wedding. I also searched high and low on the internet and looked at reviews from past brides and travelers. BDW was a god send when I found it! Google also became a good friend to me! The best thing to do is to write out a list of what you want in a resort, ask a TA and do a lot of research on your own to draw conclusions. That is exactly what I did and why I ended up choosing the Melia Caribe. Good luck with your search and keep us posted.
  14. DarcyJade: Thanks for letting me know that. My wedding is only 2 weeks after yours! I'm going to look into it now. Appreciate the heads up.
  15. Everyone has such beautiful shoes! You are all making me second guess my decision about going barefoot on the beach and just throwing on comfy flipflops for the reception! I mean ~ what is a bride without a pair of a$$-kicking shoes?? So much to think about now!
  16. Beautiful pictures with a stunning backdrop and such a good looking couple. Congrats!
