We are having our "legal" day on September 23/09...one year to the date of our engagement. It won't be anything special...literally going to the courthouse to sign the marriage certificate. We've decided not to say any special vows and we've even said that we'll shake hands to seal the deal. It will save us approx. $800.00 to do it this way. Our "real" wedding day will be the following month and we will be celebrating our anniversary on October 27th.

First things first...breathe... I totally felt the same way as you when I first started this venture. I had no idea where to start. Then I found BDW and all my trouble's seem to have disappeared! Okay, you have already picked your destination and resort...believe me, THAT is half the battle. I had a hard time trying to decide...there are so many of them out there. Next, I would try to narrow in on a date that you would like to have your wedding. When that is finished, talk to a TA and let them know the dates that you plan on getting married and then pick a week for travel and get some quotes for group travel. If you are planning your wedding far in advance (like more than a year or so), don't get discouraged if the prices seem ridiculous...it only means that the published prices for the resorts aren't out yet. I FREAKED out at first because I couldn't get any quotes until mid-December 2008 for a planned November 2009 wedding...which is why I am getting married the last week of October...they were already published before December...LOL! I can be a little OCD at times! My FI calls it impatience. LOL! Once you finally decide around what dates you are interested in, get in contact with a wedding coordinator at PPR (BEAUTIFUL resort BTW) and secure a wedding date...after that, get your group travel in place. I hope that helped some. Good luck with the planning and I promise you that you will enjoy every moment of it...even the frustrating times!

I went into the bridal shop last week to order my bridesmaids dresses and decided to try on the sample of my Maggie dress (Melena) while we were there....I still LOVE it and can't wait until mine comes in! When I ordered it in February, the salesperson told me that it would be sent for August...however, when I was there last week, I was told July. Either way...I just want it to be here already! I'm just lovin' everyone's Maggie's!

Hmmm...as far as I know (and I am far from being an expert on this) that once you receive your marriage certificate from the DR then you have to have it translated to English in order for it to be recognized in Canada. I have thought about changing my mind and actually having the legal ceremony in DR...let me know how it works out and how long the process is! Congrats!

I love Tacori! My e-ring and wedding band are both Tacori but I was unwilling to spend the $$$ on a pair of earrings that I wanted. I'm so glad that you have shared this with us...I will definitely be purchasing soon!

We ordered our bridesmaid dresses yesterday! My MOH and daughter will both be wearing the same dress, however, since my little girl is only 9 we will be adding the optional straps to the dress. I'm so excited that I have something else marked off my checklist! We were debating whether to shorten the hem to tea length as well...What do you all think?

wedding planning : getting expensive

Oh Shellb...I just noticed that it's almost your time!!! Yay...no wonder you've been busy!

Princess: We have 19 booked and are expecting at least 10 more (hopefully). My TA warned me, however, that some will book closer to the date or travel or even last minute! I'll send you some info if you want me to but also check out Shellb's thread...lots of info on there as well!

We will be "honeymooning" at the same resort that we will be married at. We decided to do this for a couple of reasons...1) We figured that we would be super busy the first three days planning the final touches of the wedding (not much of a vacation) and 2) Our family and friends will be with us for the first week and we'll probably not have a minute to ourselves. With that being said, staying at the same resort for another week didn't cost much more than staying for one did so we splurged on that. However, we are going to Greece the following February for our actual honeymoon.

I agree...they are both sooo similar in style! I think that dress #1 is the winner just because the detail of the dress shows up more in the pics. You look great in both of them!

Wow...I had the exact same problem! One of my guests went to my TA to book her travel and the TA told her that the plane was completely sold out! This was the end of February and we aren't going until the end of October! I am thankful that I had a group booking reserving 30 seats on the plane and this particular guest did get a spot with our group. I informed the rest of my guests that were planning on coming with us that the plane was sold out so they would have to travel the day before or the day after...most were okay with it. The way I finally looked at it was that as long as everyone was there for the 27th, I could deal with everyone having a different travel date! Well, to make a long story short...the airline has decided to schedule another plane for the same day as there are so many travelers that want to leave that day. Just keep checking travel websites and you may find that another flight will magically appear! LOL! Good luck with everything! It will all turn out great!

Hey there....we are getting married at the Melia Caribe in October. I was torn between the beach or the new beach gazebo. We finally decided that we would stick with having the ceremony on the beach! I did get a couple of pics with the wedding information that they sent so here they are! Also, I've sent you a PM with some information to get in contact with the wedding coordinators there. Have fun planning and if you do go with the Melia...you won't be disappointed! I've heard nothing but great things from past brides and the WC's have been pretty great so far!

I'm doing pink and orange as my main colors with lime green accents.

It is totally not selfish to feel the way you are. I can imagine that I would be totally upset if my MOH, the only person in my wedding party, got pregnant "purposely by accident" too. In fact, I call her everyday to make sure that she took her little blue pill! LOL...it's an ongoing joke between the two of us! We make sure that neither one of us will be "with child" during the wedding week! I'm sorry to hear that this has happened and you are so upset about it. Feelings are not selfish...it's the way we react to them that could be.

While I can't say that I would have the nerve to do something like this....I think it's hilarious! If people are actually donating money to her, well...good for her? I guess? It's almost like a "pay it forward" idea. Anyway, hopefully she gets the wedding of her dreams but it's doubtful that this will be the only way that she will get it. We'll get our dream wedding's through hard work, blood, sweat and tears and be the better for it! Lord knows nobody else is paying for mine!! My pockets are pretty much empty but I'm loving every minute of it!
