My sister is the MOH, but I'm thinking about making her hubby the back-up/honorary MOH ... he's just been so helpful!
  2. I can't remember who I got this from, but someone posted this wording and I am using it on my website: Although it would be fantastic to have all of our loved ones there as witnesses, we understand that limitations exist. For those who are unable to join us, it is our hope that you look south on our special day and think of us, wishing us well as we begin our new lives together. With Love, Our Names It seemed to get the point across and sounded nice. :-) Also, I chose not to put it on my invite and just put it on my website because I figured that most everyone would look there. (I did put the wedding website address on my save the date cards.)
  3. After many hours scouring this forum looking through boarding pass examples, templates, and suggestions (and quite a few questions of my own) I have finally finished and sent out my own STDs! (btw, my fiance hates that I write it that way.) I wish I knew who to thank for all the inspiration, but it's really a conglomeration of so many people. I can't even remember whose blank template I used (so sorry!!) Here are my pics: STD in sleeve: I did 3 different sleeves. I only did this because I went to 4 different Michaels to try to get enough of the paper I liked, but there wasn't quite enough. The one I liked best is the green with texture. The other two are shiny, one is blue and the other is green. I did like the shiny ones, just not quite as much. Here are all 3 together: Each page of the BP laid out: Individually: and I tore along the perforations on this last one to show the perforation: Hot glued together: A sleeve by itself: The envelopes I mailed them in: The piece of equipment that made it all possible: This is the Fiskar's Rotary trimmer (and scorer and perforater). Anyone thinking about doing these STDs at home, I HIGHLY recommend investing in one of these. I paid about $45 for it, but it made the job so easy, and i think they came out very well. And I'm quite sure I will end up using this again. I also used a corner punch and a hot glue gun. I am including the .pdf file to show what the fonts looked like. I'm including the .doc file for anyone who wants to use it. You can change the colors and images just by playing around with it for a little while. The fonts I used are: Scriptina and Tropicana BV. The rest should come standard with your word program. Also, I had these printed at Staples. I sent test prints to Staples, Kinkos, and Office Depot and liked the way they came out at Staples best. Definitely buy your own paper (I used 110 lb cardstock) for the printers to use. They would have charged me $80 extra if they used their paper. I actually bought my paper at Staples ($7.99 I think, with a coupon). It was the exact same paper they would have charged me 80 bucks for! How silly! 4. Before I started dating my fiance, I had dated another guy for 4 years. The other guy was just not right for me and our break up was a bad one. 9 months later, I had been casually dating my (now) FI for 5 months, and I got a call from my ex's mother telling me that he (my ex) had died. I rushed over to his house and met her as the coroner was carrying him away. I was crushed. He had been a big part of my life for so long, and even though I never wanted to get back together with him, we left so many things unresolved. My FI was soooooooo sensitive toward me at this time (and he's not a sensitive guy). He let me cry in his arms for hours and hours on end whenever I needed to. He let me talk, and he didn't ask questions or make judgments. He let me sit in silence just holding my hand when that's what I needed. He asked me if I wanted him to come to the funeral with him, but I said no. Before I left for the funeral, he came over to my house and brought me a black stuffed dog and said that since he couldn't be with me, he wanted the dog to ride in the car with me to watch over me. I knew that the man who would do all of these things for a girl who was crying over an ex, and not be judgmental or jealous or put-off was the one for me.
  5. I was going to say that I liked #1 on you (it's the style I want for my own dress) but then I got to #7 and was like, "Va-Va-Voom!" It definitely has Wow-factor, and that low neckline looks great on you - you've got a great set of "puppies" to carry it off. (Sorry if I stepped over the line with that one...)
  6. Wow! That dress is stunning! No one will forget it (maybe it's just me, but I always forget what bride's dresses look like unless they are absolutely gorgeous or horrendously hideous) because it's so amazing. Make sure your groom is dressed as nicely (well as close as a guy can get - nothing in menswear could actually compare) as you, and it will make for some fabulous pics. I actually went to a very formal wedding in Acapulco not too long ago (not on the beach, but at a multi-million dollar mansion) that was absolutely wonderful. Who says you can't do formal in a tropical setting? I think an elegant theme would suit that dress perfectly! (Also, who says you can't build a wedding around THE dress?)
  7. I just read this list from a link you posted on another thread. I LOVE it!! I've been in a fair share of weddings with "bridezillas" and I made the silent commitment to myself not to be one. But your list is just so perfect (and funny), that I'd love to steal it (if it's still ok). Thanks for posting!

We went in December to scope out Negril and fell in love with the Moondance people. Both of the resorts are GORGEOUS! I can't wait to get back there! So, BDW Twin, are you going to join in the biggest loser 7 contest here? Maybe if we both do it, we can be BL Buddies. What do ya think?
  9. Lisa, good tip on the shiny paper, I agree with you. Your invites look abfab! Your guests will be so excited when they get them in the mail!

  11. :Hi Leslie! Sorry, I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to say that I LOVE your pic of your Huskies! I have one named Sasha, who is 3. She does the same thing as the one on the right in the picture, where she crosses her paws. I think it's so cute! Anyway, she's my baby, and I saw yours and just had to comment. you can have it back now! So sorry!
  12. Hi, congrats, welcome, and all that good stuff! I agree that you may want to consider weather in Jamaica and Mexico as a big part of your decision. Weather in Jamaica in November | jamaica-guide.info is a website for Jamaican weather in November. For Mexico, you'd be better off looking it up by the region. Mexico is a lot bigger than Jamaica, so its weather varies more by region. I am getting married in Negril, Jamaica in May. Here are some of the factors that helped me make my decision: 1) the "no problem, mon!" attitude of the island - my fiance and I are very laid back, and like this theme for our wedding events. 2) my fiance is black, and the majority of our guests are white (70%). So I wanted a larger black presence in our wedding like the minister, the hotel wedding coordinator, etc. I also thought his parents may appreciate it, though I never asked. 3) Negril is on the west side of the island, so the sun sets on the water, which i think will be very pretty in the pictures. 4) We wanted to be on an island. 5) Bob Marley!! 6) We fell in love with our resort when we went for a visit last December, so it sealed the deal. 7) I love the accent of Jamaicans. it's so cool! Yah, mon! We live in Texas, so we don't really think of Mexico as a destination... we're practically there already :-) Maybe one of these reasons will help you make your decision for or against Jamaica. Either way, wherever you end up going, I'm sure it will be magical!
  13. Congrats to everyone on their great work! I did BL season 4 (I think it was 4) and really loved the accountability of it. Then I moved, got busy with work, and was away from the forum for a long time. When I came back, I saw that you were all in the middle of this season, so I waited patiently for a new one to start (while I ate absolute junk... ugh, gross!) Soooo... I'm ready! I can't wait for BL 7!
  14. How cool! I'm excited to hear the translated version! Congrats on being famous in another language!! hehe
  15. An undershirt may help with this problem. And if you have a good photographer, they can photoshop out any really big and obvious sweat stains from the important pictures.
  16. I love the burnt orange koozies and cups! Go Horns! I also like your bag, so I'll be looking for your response on where you got it.
  17. The gifts I have received at weddings that I most enjoyed were the donations to a charity in my name. So often, the stuff you get at weddings is junk (I once got a plastic miniature picture frame with silver glitter and sequins glued on to it) that you just throw away later. It makes me feel good to know that the bride and groom did something that will help someone, instead of giving away stuff that will end up in a dump somewhere. ***Disclaimer: I'm not saying that OOT bags are junk! I'm just saying that so many people get junk at weddings (i also got a tiny silver-colored bell once... what was I supposed to do with that??) that they will probably not miss having a gift that you can hold in your hand.
  18. ewww : asparagus (I'm excited to join y'all in your game. It's midnight and I can't sleep.)
  19. Hi! Welcome to the board. This may be a LOOOOONG shot, but I once knew a girl named Ashley Ford who lived in Houston and then moved to Dallas. She went to SAA. You aren't her by any chance are you? (Yeah, way long shot... but doesn't hurt to ask.)
  20. Why don't you look into having a reception at a restaurant that is off-site? You can have the wedding on the beach at Dreams and then hire vans or buses to take everyone to your desired reception site. You can probably find somewhere that will stay way under $85 pp. Plus you may end up with more authentic food, and people may enjoy the opportunity to get off the resort for a little while, since they will probably eat most of their other meals there. Just a thought!
  21. Congrats gbyrd! I think you made a great choice! But then I may be a little biased! How many guests are you estimating having? And what made you choose Moondance Cliffs over the Villas for the wedding/reception site? Best of luck with your planning, I'm glad we have this thread for sharing our information back and forth!
