Dreams425 - I am planning to have my reception on the beach as well. I am not planning on spending the extra $650 for a dance floor either. I think we can do without it. I don't think i have any break dancers in my group, lol, so i don't think we'll miss it.

Rachel great review and thanks for sharing! I love the way the gazebo turned out, I may do something similar with my wedding colors. I didn't hear about the massage hut being torn down I was hoping to have my reception by it and use the hut as my music station

What's better having someone man an Ipod or getting a DJ I like the fact of not spending extra money if I use my ipod, but i'm not sure if people would have more fun and the party atomosphere might be better with a DJ? Any ladies out there use an ipod and regretted it? or vice versa Thanks!!!!

I am hoping to make some for my guests, but am not sure if my budget will allow it....has anyone not planned on giving their guests welcome bags? Is it expected? Also, if you gals don't mind, how much did it cost you to make the welcome bags?? (no need to be exact)

This is a very personal decision. My FI and I decided to have a DW since I wanted to get married on a beach and we didn't want to spend $50k for a wedding in Jersey. We have invited about 80 people to our Mexico DW but I only expect about 40 to actually make it. We never planned on having an AHR since it just isnt' important to us and it really doesn't fit in our budget. I also agree with sunstarsmoon, if you plan on having a huge AHR then I would keep your DW small.

Is anyone else in the process of blocking hotel rooms for your guests?? I am trying to do that now, but since my wedding is a year away it's kinda hard to firgure out who will actually go. My TA said that the resort will accept an estimate of rooms but to try and be as close as possible. I will also have the opportunity to release any unbooked rooms 90 days before my departure which is good. I have invited about 85 people and only expect maybe 30-35 to go, so I was thinking of maybe blocking only 20-25 rooms. But what if more than 35 people go or what if all 85 people go!!

we are arriving in Mexico either on a Tuesday or Wednesday, getting married on Saturday and leaving probably on Monday. I figured that most of my guests will only be coming in for a long weekend and me and my FI will be traveling to a different destination for our honeymoon anyway. So for us it makes sense to get there a few days before the wedding.

The problems with the drug cartels and violence are not new. These problems have been going on for years!!! Warnings have been issued due to the escalated activity and violence along the border towns in a short amount of time. It seemed like once the media announced this, everyone decided that all of Mexico isn't safe. Tourism is one of their main sources of income and it employs many citizens, I am sure they will be more vigilent in the tourist areas.

For the upcoming brides: When did you start blocking rooms at DT? And how did you go about trying to figure how many you needed? I am trying to do this now, but since my wedding is so far away (next April) it's kinda hard to know who will actually go and who won't.

How early did everyone start blocking rooms at the hotel? I am in the process of trying to estimate how many rooms I will need to block so that my TA can start the paperwork with the hotel. since my wedding isn't until April 2010, I don't want to seem pushy by asking all my guests if they think they are actually going or not.
