We have a long story - we were high school sweethearts when we were 16 and were together for 3 years. Then FI went off to school and we split up. We went about 7 years without being in contact, didnt know what each other was doing, etc. Then almost 4 years ago we re-connected in a fluky kind of way and ended up getting back together! So we've known each other for about 15 years - but were back together for just over 3 when we got engaged!

I just decided to try the lottery today for the first time - I'm a bit skeptical, but could be fun!

The bars and restaurants near the beach all close at night. We looked into that because we were considering having a private reception at the turrey and were wondering if there would be bars close by that we could get drinks at - rather than paying the crazy per hour/per person bar prices. We ended up booking our reception on the La Barcaza Yacht instead

The gazebo at the Melia Caribe is amazing. I'm getting married there in November and was there 2 years ago and fell in love. It is very private, very large, has a gorgeous painted ceiling, is on a little island with a walkway and bridge leading to it that makes an awesome "aisle".

Oh should have said - it costs $55 per person for what we are having. Dinner and open bar.

Wow, this thread is amazing. I've been doing so much research in planning my November 9 wedding. Just from reading this I have decided: - To scrap OOT bags and just give thermal mugs with a welcome letter (I think they are a must for keeping drinks cold in the sun and everyone will def. use them) - To stick with the small cake that comes with my package and not upgrade - To not overschedule the week with group events - just a few scheduled things are enough (a welcome dinner and maybe an excursion - and of course the wedding day) otherwise people can do what they want - afterall, they are paying a lot for their vacation. - To download my own music to my ipod instead of a DJ - Not to worry to much about my hair - it will be windy, so no point in stressing. - To not stress in general, and realize it's going to be amazing and fun no matter what! This is the best thread yet. Can't wait for more "would" and "wouldn'ts" to be posted!

I'm having my bachelorette party pretty early - in June. But I think it's fine - and I'm super excited! I'm having my shower in August. We both also live away from home, so my shower has to be in Aug since it's the only time I'll be home before the wedding

We did originally consider a beach wedding, but I was concerned about privacy, so this might be a nice alternative. I'd love to see some real pictures from the gazebo - maybe over the next few months some brides will take advantage and share their pics! We are actually arriving on November 6th! Funny! I'm not sure yet what time we get in though?

Hi All - I too am a November, 09, 09 Bride! I don't have nearly as much done as some on this thread! (Gulp) I have venue chosen and booked - Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana, DR with reception on the La Barcaza Yacht at sunset (yeah!) I have a photographer booked, BM and GM chosen, wedding website up and running, invitations going out this week (didnt do STDs). I've also decided on the colours - tropical orange, with some accents of turquoise. I don't have a dress yet, but I'm planning on choosing one very soon. My BM's are in the process of picking out thier dresses. We are legally getting married in the DR. It's a bit more hassle, but I really want it to be the "real deal". We are having an AHR at Christmas time. We're actually doing a blessing ceremony in our church for our family and friends who can't come to DR, followed by a cocktail and dancing reception. I'm just excited that I get to wear my dress again! I look forward to hearing more about everyone's plans as we get closer!

Jennierin - Hi, I'm getting married at the Melia Caribe in November. I notice you posted some pictures of a new beach gazebo in this thread. I had no idea there was such a gazebo! No one has ever mentioned it to me in my planning process as an option and I've never seen those pictures before!? I can't believe it - I thought the only gazebo was the big garden gazebo that everyone uses. I guess now I have a decision to make! Do you know how many people that gazebo can take?
