I totally feel your pain Joanna! I've been in the same situation - everyone is calling me now, asking about refunds, etc. We don't leave for another 6 weeks - I'm trying to get people to hang in there and just wait it out. I saw you on another post - I'm totally with ya - if people want to bail, they can bail. I've put way too much time and effort into this to not go based on the flu threats which are not even on the RM coast! Until WHO puts out a travel ban, this wedding is still happening! That being said... my mom has already looked into plan B - i.e having the wedding here in Vancouver.

I am right there with all you girls - I leave on June 6th and have also been inundated with e-mails/phone calls from concerned guests. I feel this is all blown out-of-proportion. Being a doctor myself, I really don't think there is reason to alarm at this moment beyond taking careful precautions. However, even though I'm trying to keep a level-head about all this, my emotions are definitely taking over -- destination weddings are not supposed to be this much stress!!!!

Riviera Maya Honeymoon Review- GBPT April 11-18, 2009
MayanButterfly replied to ACDCDCAC's topic in Honeymoon Talk
Hi Abbie, Thanks for the awesome post! I was just wondering where that little breakfast a la carte place that you were talking about on your last day? I'm getting married at Tulum in about 6 weeks and I can't wait! -
Hey Girls, So it's been a while since I've posted on here - lots going on in life in addition to the wedding -- I'm graduating med school this year and found out that I matched to my first choice for residency in Pediatrics! Anyways, here's what I've got so far: Day 2: Welcome dinner with Taquiza buffet for all guests Day 3: Group trip to Playa del Carmen (also planning to buy wedding favours here - any suggestions?) Day 4: Rehearsal at Church and rehearsal dinner at Main Buffet (at Tulum) Day 5: Ceremony at 2 - 3pm at Xcaret (St. Francis of Assisi Chapel) Pictures at Xcaret from 3pm - 5:30pm Dinner at Tequila 6pm - 8pm Private Poolside Reception 8-10:30pm Day 6: FH and I are taking the day to ourselves - he's planning a hot air balloon ride - has anyone done this? I don't even know if it's available! It's been a long planning process - I am definitely excited to just get down there! We have an amazingly huge party which has added to the stress -- 95 people confirmed!! Anyways, any thoughts or suggestions you have would be greatly welcomed.

JUNE 2009 BRIDES post
MayanButterfly replied to Virg's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Hey Girls, My date is June 10th - close to yours JodJ! Starting to feel rather stressed after reading some of the posts on the various forums. I feel there are so many DIY things I wanted to get done that I haven't even looked at. Maybe this anxious feeling has to do with the fact that I've also been stuck at the St. John's Newfoundland airport for the past 10 hours due to snow and wind. All wedding stuff has been put on hold as I'm doing a cross-country medical residency interview tour. 7 interviews, 7 cities in 18 days makes for one crazy lady! I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to plan a wedding during my last year of medical school. Sorry for ranting.. just feeling a bit overwhelmed! -
Hi Girls, So I've been stuck in the airport in St. John's Newfoundland for the past 10 hours!! I guess it seems like the perfect time to get caught up with my favourite website! But I have to say that it has made me more nervous than anything else. My wedding is a little over four months away and I feel like I still have so much to do. Haven't sent out any invites, or thought about party favours, or any of the little details. Currently I'm travelling across the country for medical residency interviews and all wedding planning has been put on hold. 7 interviews, 7 cities in 18 days = craziness! I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to plan a DW in my final year of medical school! Sorry for the rant, just feeling like I need some support

What's your first dance song?

After falling in love with Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" I downloaded his album and stumbled across this song: "Lucky" The words are perfect and the song is gorgeous ... and I can't wait. It brings tears to my eyes already!! I absolutely love the Lucky song! Thanks for posting that! Currently my top picks are: 1. Lucky - Jason Mraz 2. Lost in the Moment - Big and Rich 3. When you say nothing at all - Ronan Keating 4. Marry Me - Amanda Marshall Take a look at the Amanda Marshall lyrics - they are so beautiful and perfect for a wedding: I wanna laugh Until I cry Wake up with you each day 'till the day that I die Let's go to New Orleans And watch the parade Take funny pictures, eat jambalaya, and drink lemonade And when the day is finally over And we stumble home Before we sleep Baby, marry me I wanna drive Until we get lost Lie in a field staring up at the sky While you point out the Southern Cross Somehow I know Without asking why That you love me more in a minute Than anyone could in a lifetime Dancing in the parking lot While the band plays inside Sweep me off my feet Baby, marry me We don't need no preacher man Readin' from the Good Book And I don't want no fancy dress Ain't no ceremony for the vows that I took From the moment I met you I have been blessed So let's make a toast And drink up the wine Here's to you lying here next to me Until the end of time Wherever you are I wanna be And anything that means anything to ya Means everything to me Sneakin' out the back door While they're throwing the rice And they'll talk for weeks But we're all we need So baby, if you're free Marry me Baby, marry me Marry me -
What's your first dance song?
MayanButterfly replied to DRbride's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
I absolutely love this song! We're using it as our song to walk out of the church to. I think it really captures the lighthearted feel of a destination wedding! -
I was wondering if anyone did their own wedding cake? One of my bridesmaids and I took a wedding cake decorating course and I thought it would be a nice touch to do my own (decorate not bake... still working on that part!) Also, has anyone been to Xcaret? I am having a catholic ceremony there at the St. Francis of Assisi church. 5 more months!!

Welcome and congrats! We are getting married at Bahia Principe Tulum in Mayan Riviera and so far everyone has been so helpful! You should definitely go check it out

So my advice would be to confirm a date with Paloma yourself - the worse that will happen is that your TA will have done it too and you'll be booked twice. It's much easier to cancel a date than to schedule one last minute! Fran

We bought our BM dresses (from Le Chateau ~$120) and earrings (they were having an awesome sale so they ended up being $2.50!! though reg. $10). I agree with the comments above - it's a nice gesture for your bridal party, and we also felt they were paying so much to come. However, the BMs are responsible for their shoes and we haven't sorted out make-up/hair yet. As for the GMs, we are getting them ties and black pants - most white shirts are pretty standard I think.

RyanAmanda's Bahia Principe Tulum/Del Sol Review
MayanButterfly replied to RyanAmanda's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Thanks so much for the review Amanda! Kind of a weird question, but is the dance floor for the poolside reception slippery? My FI and I are swing dancers and I was thinking of getting a dance choreographed, but it would only really be worthwhile the floor was slippery and I could really spin! Francine -
Any women's health professionals?
MayanButterfly replied to Shay2679's topic in Just venting or funnies
Hi Shay, I definitely do not claim to be any medical expert, but I will be officially called doctor in T-6 months (I'm a student right now and had a strong interest in OB/GYN). I completely agree with what Nitnylyin suggested. The only one small clarification I would make is the diagnosis is usually clinical, but may be confirmed with a laparoscopy (I only make the distinction because a laparotomy is a big surgery where they cut you open, whereas the laparoscopy involves very small incisions and they look with cameras - in case you googled it and freaked). Anyways, because you are from Canada, the best place to start is with your own GP, then she can refer you on to a gyne specialist. In terms of the pap test - it only tests to see if you have any signs of cervical cancer. It does not test for any infections. In terms of your fertility options, this is something good to talk about with your doctor because she can ask you about your family history, your sexual history, etc. Depending on your age, keep in mind in may take up to a year "trying to conceive" (i.e. repeated, consistent, timed intercourse) before they will even start to work you up for infertility. Another good thing to do before you see your doctor (or before you see the gynecologist) is to keep a diary of when you menstruate, and when your pain is (also what you did/ate that day, etc). It may help to identify patterns and triggers which may help with the treatment. Hope this helps! -
Laser Eye Surgery - anyone's experiences?
MayanButterfly replied to Alyssa's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
Thanks everyone for all the posts! The date is getting nearer now and I'm getting a bit nervous, but I guess somewhat calmed by the fact that I know thousands of these surgeries are done every year and most people are very satisfied (as evidenced even just by this board!) I still have yet to meet many people who have done PRK - as lasik is now the more popular option, but unfortunately I don't qualify for this as my prescription is so bad. PRK is done without the flap - they shave the cornea off directly. The upside is there is no moving parts to heal so you can go back to contact sports, etc within a reasonable time and don't have to worry about things dislodging. The downside is that it takes longer to heal and is supposedly more painful (hopefully not too much??) Anyways, my surgery date is in a little less than a month so I guess we'll see how it goes! -
Hi JoLo908, I was wondering (or anyone else who has it) could send me the attachments of the bouquets and arches as well ([email protected]). I've been taking a little break from the wedding planning - sometimes it feels like this stuff never ends and yet the wedding is still so far away! Thank goodness for my mom. She's been a lifesaver in terms of helping me out with things since med school is getting super crazy right now!
-
Haven't posted for a little while as school and work has gotten a bit hectic lately! But I've finally booked my photographer, the church and confirmed the date with Paloma. I also got my first e-mail from Jazmin without even contacting her yet! Things seem to be going a lot better now. I'm just trying to decide on what sort of reception to hold - La Tortuga or Tequila - any recommendations? It feels so far away and I constantly alternate between feeling on the ball and feeling totally behind. I'm so glad I've got my mom helping me... and this forum of course!!

JUNE 2009 BRIDES post
MayanButterfly replied to Virg's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I ended up getting my bridesmaids dresses at Le Chateau - they have a great selection of dresses at the moment. One of the upsides to doing this was it was easy to have people fitted - I just sent my girls into whatever Le Chateau was closest to them, then got their sizes and bought them at the store near my house! It worked well, especially for those that are out-of-town, and saved me a bundle as well! -
Laser Eye Surgery - anyone's experiences?
MayanButterfly replied to Alyssa's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
Thanks girls! Did you have PRK or Lasik? I would have rathered the Lasik procedure because of the faster healing time, but I don't qualify for it. I have exactly 1 week of school at which time I'll be doing the surgery, but I definitely need to read again the week after! -

Hi all, So I've been contemplating laser eye surgery for quite awhile but never really had the courage to do it - after all, your vision is a pretty important thing! I went to the free consultation at our nearby laser treatment centre (recommended to me by various opthomologists and retinal surgeons) and the doc told me I qualified for PRK only, given how poor my near-sightedness is (Left eye -9.0, Right eye -8.5). I was wondering if any of you have had PRK done and what the healing times were like to get back to normal reading vision. It would be so nice to not have to worry about glasses or contacts while on the beach in Mexico!
