Cut off the bit at the front making it strapless (the bit still goes up the front and bust, just finishes at the top of the dress. I would get straps made out of the ivory fabric that goe from the back of your neck (connecting it to the top of feature up your back) and have the sraps connect the the outer edges of the bustline (essentially turning it into a halter). You would also need to shorten it. The white halter would elongate the dress at the white will travel up to the top of your shoulders insted of cutting off at the bust. Anyway, thats just my suggestion but I'm no steamstress!! Hope it helps anyway - just something to think about - maybe it is the 'one' and you just haven't digged deep enough just yet I think that dress is beautiful!!! I totally agree with Jo&Daz's suggestion. I think her ideas would make the dress fabulous. The back is absolutely stunning so definitely don't touch that at all. As for the front, the reason you look cut off is probably because the detailing that comes from your neck/shoulders goes all the way down your front to your hips. That's what is elongating your top half, so it's making your legs look shorter and "cut off". If you do the suggestion above, it think it will balance out the front of the dress a lot better and not make it seem so "cut off" anymore. Best of luck!!!
  3. We also felt guilty about the cost for people to come to our wedding b/c we knew how expensive it would be to travel to Europe (especially with the rate of the Euro) so we provided accommodations to everyone who was coming. We rented out our entire location for the week so that we would have exclusive access and said that everyone could stay there with us at no cost and that all they had to worry about was airfare and any food, drinks and excursions they may want to take. I also was constantly checking on airfare rates and sending out emails when the prices looked good. I was even able to find flights from JFK to the airport nearest our destination for as low as $497 (that includes all taxes and fees) per person. No one jumped on that deal. I could do all the legwork for them, but if they don't actually accept it, then it was their loss. That was the most we could do to ease the burden of the cost of coming to our wedding.
  4. Hi Ladies, I just wanted to share with everyone my friend's blog. I thought it was hilarious and thought you might enjoy too! Mods - If this is not the right place for this, please feel free to remove this post. **Warning - it is a bit risque for those of you who are more sensitive about certain issues! Here's the link: Writing in Crayon Enjoy!!!
  5. You should try VerseIt.com. It has a bunch of great wording for all types of invitations. We got our AHR wording from there.
  6. I got FH a 16 gig iPod Nano (cuz he lost mine that he was using - I found it a few wks later). I also got him a dip belt and will be getting him some 20 lb ankle weights cuz he's big into working out. I'm not sure what I want yet, but he asked me to think about it. I think that's thoughtful that he wants to know what I want so he can get it for me but I didn't have to ask him what he wants to know what to get him. I figured he would know me well enough by now to know what to get me without having to ask...oh well, it's the thought that counts. :-)
  7. I wish I could've worn mine for our AHR, but we ended up having a picnic at a park and we held our AHR before the wedding as kind of a Send-off Party, so I didn't want FH to see the dress until the day of the wedding.
  8. I think I have read about this happening to many brides. Don't worry. When you next go to try on your dress, bring your jewelry (if you have it), do your makeup and hair and you may change how you feel about it. Once you are all glammed/dolled up, the dress might really stand out and make you feel exactly how you felt when you first ordered it. And, if need be, see if the seamstress can add some detailing to it to make it punch. Best wishes!
  9. We just had our send-off bbq/picnic this weekend and it was a huge success. We had about 100 people come and total cost ended up being about $1500 (we ended up getting too much food and drinks and you could probably do it for less if you have less people). We bought everything at BJ's/Costco in bulk so that helped with cost. Everyone had a blast and the weather was perfect. We prepped and cooked all the food ourselves which helped keep the cost down, and had our close friends and family bring some side dishes. We grilled all the food there at once and put them in chafing trays to keep them hot and put the cold dishes (salads, etc.) in trays and then stuck those in additional trays that had ice in them to keep them cold. That way, FH and his friend didn't have to be cooking the entire time. We hired another friend who knew how to bartend be a bartender for the day. One thing you have to worry about is weather. If it rains, you will need to have an alternative plan. We made sure we rented a picnic area that had a large covered pavilion. If it had rained, we had planned to do a huge poker tournament with the winner getting a 50/50 jackpot.
  10. It is an awesome time and everyone has fun. The only thing you really have to be concerned about is weather, especially if the area you rent or have does not have a covered section for your guests. Luckily, we had great weather! If it had rained, we still planned to use the picnic area, but b/c it had a large covered pavilion, we were going to do a huge poker tournament with the winner getting a 50/50 jackpot.
  11. LOL! We just had our AHR/Send-off Party this past weekend. It was a blast but so much work to prep for! Anyways, I'll have a review and pics posted as soon as I get them uploaded. :-)
  12. That is totally doable. We just had our AHR this past weekend and we prepped and cooked all of our own food and provided all of the drinks for approx. 100 people and with the park rental, decorations, supplies and food and drinks, it cost about $1500-1600. If you put the hot food out on chafing trays, you can cook it all up at once and then they will stay hot in them. Put all the salads and cold dishes in trays and then stick them in another tray that already has some ice in it and that will keep those foods cold. We put all the food out buffet style and hired one of our friends who used to be a bartender to bartend the party. Hope that helps. :-)
  13. We bought and prepped all the food for our AHR and cooked it ourselves. We also provided all the liquor and beer (which we were able to get through a liquor distributor at cost). Granted we ended up preparing more food and drinks than we needed but better more than running out. In total, with everything from the park rental to food and drinks to decorations and supplies, it cost us a total of approx. $1600 for about 100 people. We had it this past weekend and had a blast! I'll put a review out there soon with pics. :-)
  14. I just got a rough translation done by a Chinese friend of ours. It's not a full translation but it's the section that refers to our location and us (pages 2-3). Here it is!!! Air Travel Magazine - Wedding at Chateau de Challain France.doc
  15. I didn't know that you couldn't give points to someone just so they can download templates. I didn't read the rules which was my fault. Oopsies!
  16. Hi Allisa! We're date twins! We are getting so close!!! Do you still have a lot to do? Luckily for us, most of the major stuff is now done but we're still working out the little details and such. We are getting hectic trying to coordinate and plan our AHR which we decided to have before the wedding to take advantage of the summer and the outdoors. Hopefully it doesn't rain! Anyways, best wishes to you!
  17. I totally understand being lonely. Whenever FH leaves for a business trip, I miss him terribly and hang out with my friends to make the lonliness go away. But good for you for taking a firm strong stance and not giving into those feelings! You are the innocent bystander in this but it's definitely the right way to handle things and not lead him on.
  18. Looking at my fiance, you would never suspect that he is as intelligent, caring, tender, and funny as he is. Most people see him as a meathead or weightlifter with a pretty face and treat him as such until they get to know him and realize just how smart he is.
  19. I agree with Kristy. Too little, too late. It was his loss for realizing that now instead of then. You should focus on your current relationship and ignore anything else. Although this may not be what you want to hear, but if you are being distracted by these things, that might be something to figure out why?
  20. Hey Girls! We're only a month away! How's everyone's planning coming along?
  21. We finally went for a tux fitting a couple of weekends ago and found the tux that FH is going to wear. He looked so handsome in it! I can't wait till he wears it again! Here's a pic I found online of the tux (not FH, LOL)!
