I don't have an opinion one way or another on this but I understand how you are feeling...whether it's selfish or not. If you check into it...I know a friend of ours didn't come to our wedding because she was pregnanat and found out that if she was past 30 some weeks pregnant (not sure of the actual number) insurance wouldn't cover her. So if something happened in Jamaica with the pregnancy (God forbid) she'd end up with a HUMUNGO bill. - that may be something she wants to look into before she makes any decisions?? It would also be a way of you showing your concern without offending her. Selfish or not, it's how you feel and you have to do something to make you feel better about it. I had to deal early on with the idea that my MOH wasn't going to be a part of my celebrations cause she (my sister) just seemed to have a bad attitude about the whole thing. I was a little teary eyed at first but then quickly sucked it up and realized that I have great friends to celebrate with and yes I would love to have MOH right by my side but in the end your day is special no matter what. Whatever happens just let it happen and don't worry about the details. Like ~Debra~ said, she will most likely be involved with everything anyway so don't sweat the small stuff. When you're planning for such a big day some things seem like such a big deal when really it's you and your FI that count. Let things happen and deal with them as they come.....most people don't get pregnanat right away!!! But if she does get pregnant don't forget to celebrate that with her too cause it's a huge thing to celebrate about!!

Riu Ocho Rios or Riu Negril
montegobay09 replied to *Kerin28*'s topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
From what I can tell ROR is the bigger resort of the two. Between the 2 of those I'd choose Negril just cause the beaches in Negril are nicer and it's more relaxed. ROR is great though too so you really can't go wrong! good luck! -
Big "Stamp" on pics!! (Riu Ocho Rios)
montegobay09 replied to josee's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
Exactly what pp said. You get a CD with all the photos taken. They are all low res and have a stamp on them. But the ones you order come as high resolution files, edited and retouched so you can make as many prints as you want. - I won't add any more since pp explained it all very well! Hope that helps! -

Catholic ceremony - Jamaica AI Resort
montegobay09 replied to BrenBren's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
There is a thread about this somewhere that I've posted on before. The girl who was finding out about it was getting married at RIU MoBay and was having her ceremony at a nearby church and having everything else at the RIU so they must do it there! -
You are definately not alone with this. The most stressful part of planning our DW was by far choosing the resort. We too were concerned about price. We wanted to make sure we had a beautiful resort that would provide excellent service and a perfect wedding but we didn't need a superior resort with all the extras. We were willing to pay a little bit extra to make sure we got a great resort but not so much that our guests would feel that it was unnecessary. - in other words...I know how you feel! It really is always difficult to find the right place but once this decision is made (which for me was finally just telling my TA to just book it cause I didn't care anymore!) the only real thing you'll have to worry about is paperwork. All the rest is just extras and you're smooth sailing! I think you'll be happy with either of those resorts. I would totally recommend RIU Tropical Bay in Negril but I do think it's a little more expensive than ROR because it's a RIU "palace" which is higher quality. Anyway, whatever you decide remember that it's your wedding and the people that want to be there will not back out because of a couple of hundred dollars (but I know what you mean about $1600's sounding much better!). People will always complain but hey...they don't have to come if they don't want to!! I hope you're able to get this part over with quickl and have a happy planning experience from here on!!

Cudos to all those photogs!! Those poor displaced brides need all the stress relief they can get and that just lightens the load a little I'm sure. This forum is so amazing for organizing stuff like that! I know that Marshall1980 used someone based in Montego Bay and was VERY happy with them. I stayed at the RIU MoBay which is so close to the Sandals Royal Caribbean that we could see some people dining in one of the restaurants! We have friends that stayed at the Sandals in Ochos Rios and they liked it but said that the resort was dated and not kept as well. Service was great though. From what I saw at the Royal Caribbean and from what I've heard from friends, it is spectactacular and more of a honeymoon resort since it is layed back and so quaint. I agree with jjurick that the ground level swim up suite would be absolutely amazing! We wish we would've stayed there for a honeymoon...even if it was only for 2 nights. It was beautiful. (I love the cabanas!!)

The staff at the resort section off that part of the beach...about 10 ft on either side I'd say. Maybe a little bit more. But some clueless people always seem to walk through or get in a picture while they're in the water right in the middle of your wedding. On the west beach people were very far away so we didn't feel like they were "attending" our wedding

April 2009 Brides Check In!
montegobay09 replied to tchuchuca's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
That is funny! April 10th was the last post until today! HA! I was also so happy with how our wedding went and can't believe it's all over. It was such a huge deal to make sure the dress fit perfectly and to pick the perfect hair...and then at the end of the night when it was all over I didn't want to take it off! It was actually a good thing that we had our AHR on April 25th cause I was excited to wear my dress again! How did everyone else's trip go? I'm sure they were wonderful! I was showing my pics to someone at work and she loved them so much that she ended up convincing her FI that they should have a DW next April! They're going to Jamaica! Gotta love DW wedding photos! I love them!!!! -
Blue Mountain Coffee
montegobay09 replied to michelle6114's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
One of my guests was crazy about that coffee and found the best price for the smaller bags at a local grocery store. Howeve, when we got to the airport the found a HUGE bag which was cheaper for the amount she would be getting. In the end she was happier with the smaller bags because the larger bags wouldn't stay fresh long enough once they were opened. But it could be an option for your AHR if you plan to repackage them....I dunno -

You would have to pay for a package though I think since you don't qualify for the free package without booking a certain number of rooms. Check out Lilpaisley's review...maybe it'll help you make your decision.

Glad you found them! The wedge sandals worked very well in the sand for me. I even danced in them a little later in the night.

Take a look on ebay. That's where I got mine. I just spent the last 1/2 hour trying to find the seller for you and can't seem to narrow it down. If you don't find anything suitable let me know...I may be willing to sell them. I'm done with them now and I highly doubt I'll wear them again!! - I think it'd be funny to wear my wedding sandals again!

Comfy Wedding shoes....help
montegobay09 replied to shellb's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
You must be back by now!! How was your wedding I want to see pics! How did the shoes work out?? -
I just read this now and I completely agree...not right for people who commit their lives to protecting us and our country.

I've seen a few threads on this. You should do a search, I'm sure you'll find lots of threads. Here are the shoes I wore for my beach ceremony... Where in Nova Scotia are you from PM me if you don't want to say on here! I'm from Cape Breton. Congrats on your engagement and happy planning!

I have shoulder length wavy hair but the stylist made it curlier on my wedding day. I loved my hair! Here is my inspiration pic... I told her I wanted it pulled back loosley but a little higher than in the inspiration pic. Here's what she came up with for my hair... I do have to recommend having your hair up. My MOH had her hair down and we have very few photos where she's not fixing her hair since it was blowing in the breeze the whole time. That's just one extra thing to worry about! I considered leaving my hair down but I'm very happy with my decision to wear it back. In the end you decide what works best for you! Good luck!

RIU Brides...Question about Welcome Dinner
montegobay09 replied to Geralyn's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Quote: Originally Posted by Jamaica0619 I didn't have mine yet, but I contacted Chantelle about the option of a welcome dinner at the Rose Hall Buffet. Basically I just asked her if they would be able to set up a group of tables for the wedding group. She told me that it would not be a problem. I figured this would offer the most flexibility in terms of a seating time in case people want to do tours that day, rather than having to go with one of the set times for the reservation-based resturants. I would say that would be the least stressful way of going about it. I have no idea if Chantelle would be able to book that large of a seating before you get there. Have you tried emailing her. I know she's busy but I don't think anyone else has done a welcome dinner yet. As I said in my review, mine was much like what Jamaica0619 has planned. We just got tables put together at lunch in Mahoe Bay. I think it worked nicely. It would be even nicer at supper I'm sure because everyone would be dresse for dinner and the Rose Hall Buffet is much more formal than Mahoe Bay. There always seemed to be room in there too so I'd say it would work very well. -
That happened to me when I was booking. We had a flight to JAmaica booked for one week and then our TA found out that ROR couldn't marry us that week. So we tried another week...she confirmed the wedding date and time and then realized there were no flights available for us that week! I was so stressed at that point that when she mentioned RMB and said she could fly us there and get us married I said..SURE...do whatever you need to do. I'm so happy that it turned out the way it did though. If you end up having to change resorts it really isn't that huge of a deal. We're very happy it turned out how it did! 5 minute drive from the airport!!

Any other JA brides being bombarded...
montegobay09 replied to drbrainfreeze's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Wow, I guess I can see why they'd be concerend but I agree with you that they'd be at just as much risk of getting it if they stayed in the US. Do you have a website that you could update to ease their minds? Maybe just pop them a little note with some statistics about the virus. Maybe let them know what your doctor said, etc. Sorry I can't be of more help! I hope everything goes off without a hitch! Good luck! -
Why A Destination Wedding?
montegobay09 replied to Mark Romine's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I like this thread! As others have already mentioned, we had many reasons for chosing a destination wedding.. 1. My husband was born in Barbados and lived there until he was 9 when he moved to Canada. We initially planned to get married in Barbados and knew that a beach wedding was perfect for us. Barbados turned out to be too expensive ($3000 per person) to ask our guests to join us so we decided on a less expensive island and are planning our 1 year anniversary trip to Barbados for next year. 2. I suppose any beach would've been fine but I live in Nova Scotia where even in the summer you're lucky to get 5 beautiful days in a row. Also, I'm a teacher and did not want to use my time off to plan a wedding. The process of planning a DW is much less detailed than that of an "at home" wedding. 3. When we thought about having an "at home" wedding we didn't have anywhere that we REALLY wanted to get married. We have friends that live all across the country and we couldn't fathom making them travel all that way for just another wedding. It seems like if you want to spice up an "at home" wedding you need to spend more money. Going to Jamaica gave everyone a nice vacation and an experience they'll never forget! I'm sure they will never mistake our wedding day for someone else's! 4. I can't be myself in front of big crowds! I don't enjoy being the centre of attention so my group of 23 people was just perfect because everyone felt like they had a big part of our special day and I didn't feel like everyone was staring! Making everyone happy in a group of 23 is a lot easier than in a group of 200! 5. Making a guest list of 200 people was scary for me and most of those people I hadn't seen in 5 - 10 years! We sent out a video of our ceremony and the most important peole in our lives were there for the real thing. I think this was the best way. 6. In the end we had to decide if we wanted a wedding that would accomodate for everyone else or if we wanted a wedding that would be perfect for us. We were pressured many times to add things that were more traditional but when we really thought about it, we just wanted something simple and fun. I love that we got to know our guests even better than before. We know that we're important to them because they took the time and money to come share in our special day. That is the best gift of all. -
Need Bouquet Ideas for my dress

Love the first one there. The green and orange would compliment your dress nicely. Stunning!
