Are you giving gifts or favors to your guests?
montegobay09 replied to julloy's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I did welcome bags and used our favors (personalized flip flops) in the bags so that guests could use them all week. - and they did! -
I tried to multi-quote the last two posts but for some reason my computer is messing up. I totally agree that the absolute worst is someone dictating to you how they think you should live your life and they think they know better than you. I've been living the nightmare of being stuck in a small town where the only women my age at hang out with all have babies. I HATE that they think I'm deprived because I don't have children. Apparently I don't have an opinion on many things because I don't have children, and I also don't have any skills to deal with children because I'm not a mother. I too am a teacher and have been around children for years. I worked in a day care with a group of two year olds and now I'm an elementary school teacher...who says I can't take care of kids just as well as a mother would...it pisses me off when I have to deal with their ignorance. Having children is such a personal decision and people should really mind their own buisness no matter who they are. No one needs to know the details about why you don't have children yet, all they need to know is that you don't!

There was just no point for a 4:00 ceremony for me cause it would've been rushed. I'm sure some brides make it work though! Enjoy and remember to tell us all about it!

Back from RMB with a new last name!!!!

Love that you had an amazing time! congratulations! Can't wait for your review! -
OMG Marie I can totallly see this happening. I see you're from Canada...I'm from a small town in Nova Scotia so I totally get how this could happen! I see that this is a fairly old thread and I hope you can update us soon on how everything is going with the non invitees! I would give you the same advice as many others have here on BDW. You are totally justified in being upset/frustrated and I would make sure that unless it benefits you (like getting a free trip which is what we got if we booked enought people) I would not let the "extra" non-guests get in on your group rate! I would have that discussion with my TA right away to make sure only your invited guests get included in that...unless of course it benefits you! That would be the uninvited guests' first clue that they aren't a part of the wedding! I would too get FI to talk to his friends to make sure they understand that the extra people they invited will not be attending your festivities. I would make sure they don't get included in any of it! Welcome dinner, rehersal, nothing! Now, knowing the type of person (they've already agreed to go to a wedding they're not invited to!) they might try to show up anyway, but I wouldn't sweat it. Just make sure they know before going that they're on their own when it comes to your wedding day. There's no way you need to put up with that! Keep us updated!

Girls who have been to RMB - I would appreciate others weighing in on the tennis court area. One concern (besides that it is not a typical wedding location) I can think of is the fact that I don't think the ground was very level, but I didn't go over that way when we got married in June...so I'm trying to remember from our site visit in January. I can see that the space by the tennis courts could work I guess. We had a room in the building facing the tennis courts for the first night we were there and we actually asked to change rooms since it really wasn't very pretty at all. It has a big green cement wall and then the fencing for the tennis courts in the background. It was definately more private though except for the people playing tennis. It is an option though if you're really looking for private.

It's legal if you get married in Jamaica! No worries!

There is no garden area at RMB..there's not even a spot that I can think of that could be adapted for that. The most private location is the west beach (you'd obviously have to deal with the sand!), then would be the plaza gazebo( no sand and a little more formal) , and then the beach gazebo (not very private at all).

the 2010 free package is different than the 2009 package in that way. I would say that yes you'll have to pay for cake and sparkling wine if you want that. I didn't have to pay but that's cause the package has changed now. I don't really know if it's that important to pay extra for the cake. There is dessert included in your meal and only a handful of people had cake anyway cause there were so many more options. good luck!

I won't write as much since I've already posted my review but I'm very happy with my choice of RMB and I was skeptical at first too! I havn't regreted my decision one bit!! and there's only a 5 min drive to the airport so it's well worth it to get there so quickly after your flight!!!!

With the Free package all of your guests will get a glass of champagne just after the ceremony but that's it. If you want more you need to arrange to have a cocktail table set up with punch and hors d'oeurves and yes this costs more. My ceremony was at 4 pm as well and my dinner at 6:30pm. DH and I were off getting our photos done and our guests all just walked up to one of the bars and sat around and chatted with drinks while they waited for dinner. It went by very quickly actually and the break wasn't really long enough for anyone to get bored...I guess one thing you have to keep in mind is that even though your ceremony is scheduled for 4pm it more than likely won't start before 4:15 at the very earliest so by the time the ceremony is over and you stand around chatting while people congratulate you while you're drinking champagne and then you get a group shot done there really isn't a whole lot of time left for the cocktail stuff. People who paid for the cocktail party didn't regret it I'm sure but I'm not sure it's really that necessary. Good luck and happy planning!! - let me know if you have any more questions!

My ceremony was at 4pm in Montego Bay and yes wind was definately a factor! I chose to go with my hair loosely pinned back and TONS of hairspray. and few curls ended up flying away but it just looked nice and beachy. (at least I think so!)

Any resort recommendation in the Bahamas?
montegobay09 replied to jennibak's topic in Bahamas Weddings
I'm travelling to the Bahamas in December and I believe we're staying at the Sandals Royal Bahamian. It looks amazing and the reviews are great so I really can't wait. If you havn't booked by then I'm sure I can do a little investigating for you! Let me know! -
I had my hair done at the resort where I got married. Sorry not your resort so I can't help there. I too was anxious about what it would end up looking like but I gave the stylist 3 different pictures and she told me right then and there what she could and couldn't do. We talked about it and we agreed that she understood exactly what I wanted. While she was doing it she kept checking with me to make sure she was on the right track and it turned out better than I could've imagined. I'm so happy with how it looked! So I just explained all that to try and calm your nerves a little bit aobut not having a hair trial. The resort offered one but I wanted to enjoy my time with my guests and limit wedding stuff to a minimum...but that was my choice. If you have a vision of what you want it to look like just make sure you bring pics for your stylist to give her an idea of what you're thinking of. Talk it out and everything should be great! Oh - take into consideration the wind too! I wanted a 1/2 up 1/2 down do and am so happy I didn't do it in the end cause it would've been a mess with all the wind on the beach! My MOH decided to wear her hair down and regreted it in the end cause she's fixing her hair in all the pics! Good luck! It'll all come together anyway so relax and don't worry about it! You can only do so much from this far away so just enjoy it!!
