Waiting period to get married?
montegobay09 replied to mellibean's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I also read that Jamaican law requires 24hrs on the island before getting married. My resort required 2 days (not including your arrival day or Sundays) in order to plan the wedding. Hope that helps! -
89 days, Now What Riu Brides?
montegobay09 replied to divadivine25's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I guess there could be lots but it depends on how detailed you're planning is and how much you already have done! As far as the Riu itself, the things that I've done recently are order my white calla lillies, confirmed my photographer, inquired about a videographer, and I'm getting my Welcome bag items packed in a suitcase. At the end of this week I'll be emailing my WC cause as far as I know she hasn't received my documents yet. I will email her the scanned copies of the notarized documents just in case she doesn't get them in the mail on time. (a little nervous about that) I'm sure there's something I've forgotten so it'll be nice to see some of the things other brides add to the list! happy planning! -

Congratulations and welcome back! Questions: did you use Photoshop for your photos? Was it Michael or an assistant? -

I don't really want to use the gazebo unless it costs a lot more to get the arch and then I'll just go with whatever is included in the free package.

Catholic wedding in Jamaica?
montegobay09 replied to krissysnow's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Are you decided that you're getting married in Jamaica? Cause there's a riu resort somewhere that has an open chapel overlooking the beach. I just looked it up and it's in Punta Cana in the DR. and I'm pretty sure that I read about a Sanadals resort that had the same thing when I was deciding on my resort. Hope that helps! -
Looks like you got a lot of options in AB. I just wanted to let you know that we ordered FI's pants and shirt from islandimporter and had really great service. Here's the site. We actually ordered a few of our things off ebay too. Beach Wedding Attire: Drawstring Linen Pants, Cotton & Linen Shirts, Shorts - Island Importer

There are a few on here ShopStyle search: lime green dress Have you tried ebay?? I found a few on there but my computer keeps feezing when i try to do anything on that site right now. It's an option anyway! Sometimes the seller has a few of them in their store so you can get a few of them the same. Good luck!

"Traditional" reception @ RMB
montegobay09 replied to trina0724's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
Yeah, you can rent out the disco for quite a heafty fee. If you want to go that route I'd book it now cause if anyone else getting married the same day as you wants to do that too, you can't both have it! If it's true that you can slip the DJ some $$ without actually renting out the disco then I'd do that for sure. I'm opting to do our first dance shortly after our ceremony. I hope to do it on the beach or maybe somewhere nearby a little more private. Here are the prices for the extras at RMB including the disco rental or a private reception. I've definately been having wedding dreams and restless sleeps. I had a dream the other night that I was in Jamaica and it was my wedding day. I was watching other brides from BDW getting married and wondering which ones they were and if I remembered them from some of these threads. Then I realized that it was time for my wedding and I didn't have my makeup (which was a huge deal cause I'm just recovering from 2nd degree burns on my face) and I was panicking and had to send FI to Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up some more makeup...haha, like he'd know what to buy!! That's one of many dreams!! It hasn't really affected my weight loss though. I'm still on track for reaching my goal so I'm trying to stay on track. It's getting harder to do though with the wedding getting closer!! Weekends away and a stagette coming up are going to be tough to get though on a diet!

I'm so happy to hear that you found out what you needed to know! It sounds like you have a lot of work to do with documents and all!! I hope you enjoy researching the Riu MoBay...if you have any questions let me know! I've been doing my best to find out everything about it so hopefully I can help you. Good luck with everything!! -

montegobay09 replied to nikkib's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I think the black will be gorgeous!! I was at two weddings last summer and all the bridesmaids were in black tea length dresses and it looked so beautiful. It will look so nice as an accent color against the turquoise and the silver! Go for it!! -
Booking the date for Riu Jamaica
montegobay09 replied to ~sweety~'s topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
We had to wait until April for the prices to come out. From what I can tell the Riu Ocho Rios is the most popular. I think it's the biggest resort and there are tons of reviews on here about it. Riu Tropical Bay seems too be the nicer/fancier one and the beaches are the most beautiful there. If you're looking to be close to the airport (10 minutes) and still get the Riu quality then Riu MoBay is the one for you! -
Is it poor etiquette?
montegobay09 replied to estella1007's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Just like everyone else said...it's your day and you make the rules of etiquette for this. I was in the same boat as you and thought that my DW was turning out to be just as much work as a wedding at home, if not worse cause then you have to pay to transport everything. I did add a few things to my to do list since joining BDW but we didn't do STD's, we're not doing programs, or welcome parties or rehersal party. I'm actually not even having a shower cause I really don't care for them and I don't want to ask my family to travel 2hrs to get to a silly girly thing. Instead, the afternoon of my stagette I'm getting the girls together and we're going to get a psychic to do some readings, go out to supper and have a limo pick us up to start out the night. I chose not to do anything traditional and even designed my own invitations. They only cost me $100 to make 125 of them. Anyway, after that ramble I guess I just mean that you're not alone!! do what you want to do and enjoy your wedding with the love of your life!! - Congrats on the new baby and new house!!! -
How is everyone doing with the weight loss? We're down to the wire now!! It's still possible to lose more weight though...is the stress gettingg to you or is the idea of our weddings being so close motivating you to eat healthy and exercise? I'm just about at my goal weight and for some reason have decided that it's ok to stop working at weight loss now. I don't know how to re-motivate myself! Anyone else struggling still?

Catholic wedding in Jamaica?
montegobay09 replied to krissysnow's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Ok so I just found out that there are 3 Catholic churches within a 10-14 minute drive of the Riu MoBay. That probably doesn't help you much but it works out for me. The Easter mass is at 10:00 am and the resort will arrange for my guests to take a cab there. They are very happy about this! Did you find out anything else? -

Yeah I knew they had to be there 30 prior but I wasn't sure when to actually send them. I was told that if I sent them too early they might get lost in the confusion since Chantelle is so busy. But I sent them yesterday anyway cause it was stressing me out just having them sit there!!

April 2009 Brides Check In!
montegobay09 replied to tchuchuca's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I love that the thread went from Things I've Done to Things I have Left to DO!!! I guess that means the list is getting shorter!! It's so exciting isn't it?!! I too, didn't see the point of a guest book which is why for our AHR we're doing a scrapbook with a polaroid camera where guests can have 1/2 a page to themselves to leave us whatever message they like. I can't wait!! I asked two of my students (I'm a teacher) to help with the picture taking and helping guests with the scrapbook. I think it'll be fun!
