Priests
EmenGeeRoxx replied to melissa2014's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I'm late to the party but we had Father James officiate our ceremony back in 2010. He was very good. A bit serious but the ceremony felt very personal and I felt he really cared and not just going through the motions. I was in contact with him months before the wedding and talked to him every few weeks leading up to the wedding and he would give me advice and his two cents. -
Sorry I just these posts now. If you speak Spanish or have a friend that speaks Spanish, setting up the ceremony is not that bad. I was quoted a ridiculous amount by one of the vendors to provide the service so I instead sought out my resources to help (Spanish speaking friends). If anyone is interested PM me your contact info and I will send you what I had. Not sure if it my info is up to date but the procedures should be more or less the same.

I was quoted by Ajua for around $1500 US to do the legwork for me in setting up my Catholic wedding at this church. I thought that was way too steep/ridiculous for something that shouldn't cost more than $200 of my time. Anyway I did it myself and it was pretty easy. -

Everyone is on vacation mode and time really means nothing.

You can do a semi private reception there as well in the Seafood restaurant. I seen it the week I got married.

That kind of made me nervous for when we go for our wedding. Why would that scare you; there is a good chance they go through your luggage thoroughly anyway. As long as you have your receipts then you should be fine.

We are also going to be needing transportation for our guests from the hotel to the chapel. Church - were you able to get an english speaking priest? What was his name? Mariachi - how much did this cost you guys for 45 minutes? I'm dying to get them but trying to find a good group at a good price! You guys did great work with your wedding planning! SO happy I found you! Sorry for the concise message, real busy but just wanted to respond quickly Limo = 400 USD for 4hrs, Lomas Transportation Van = 71 USD per van (fits 12 people comfortably or u can squeeze in 14), sorry no pics, but they are clean and have A/C, Playa del Carmen info English speaking Priest = Father James Hogan: 984-116-3373. He is the best one from the feedback I got. Here are others. Bernard Quinn: 984-876-3327. Jorge Cataneda: 984-804-8870. Mariachi = Coral del Caribe, [email protected] 350 USD for 45 minutes playing, 4 piece band -
It's not that expensive. You have to put a downpayment when you reserve which is half the amount and pay the rest when you are there. I also had to pay the priest because he wasn't from that church. I found him. He just accepted a donation so I gave him $250US. I had 80 people and we fit perfect. 2 columns and 10 rows in each column, with 4 people in each row. Message me if you want more deets.

Tan/white Suit

I will post more later with our wedding party and our guests. A tan suit is fine but beware lots of your male guests will be wearing tan also especially at a DW. If that guest is standing beside you in pictures he will also look like the groom lol. I have seen it before at other DWs. -

What if some of my receipts have amounts higher than $300? (I ordered lots of things all at once and had a couple of large orders...) When I got my Mexican customs form it says goods you bring in must be under $300 excluding certain things like laptops, iPod players etc. Basically just keep it under $300 to be safe. Like it was said, just make some fake receipts if you total over $300 and just make the prices a lot lower than you paid for them. Split them up if you have to amongst people you are going with. A program like MS word or excel will easily do this for you. It's really not that hard.
