I can't say that even one was original, and I hardly have any of just my husband and I and of those few, I can truly say none wowed me. NONE. Hiring her was the biggest planning mistake I made. As for the $150 refundable deposit -- I missed out on that too! GEESH!!!!! It's funny that you mention the "amateurish-ness" because when we first got the pictures I thought the same thing. And then I looked through them again and was like ok, I guess there are some good ones. But the more I see pictures on the forum, it makes me want to cry. I was on a budget and I wish I hadn't sacrificed my photos because of it. Looking back now I would have payed anything to have amazing pictures. I thought I did enough research at the time, but I guess not. There are some pictures I love, but they are not anything different, and I wish there were so many more. I guess I have to be happy to have something, and I just hope we are able to help someone else and save them from disappointment. And I am so sorry that I didn't post something earlier.
  3. Misti was our photographer for our July 2009 wedding in Mexico. I had some issues with her as well, but made a lot of excuses for her at the time. She was professional, and we did get all our pictures on a disc. I hadn't ordered anything extra so I can't speak to that. I was a recipient of the special she ran on BDW and only had to pay travel costs. I was able to split her flight with another bride getting married a few days after us, and I think I ended up spending $1300 total. Overall I was happy with our photos, although there were a few key shots that were missed. Getting the discs took longer than promised, and Misti was difficult to get ahold of. When we finally received the disc it was only 300 pictures total. I was disappointed both with the amount, knowing that many more were taken, and with the quality of some of them. In some pictures, they were over-brightened and my dress blended right in with the sky. After looking at pictures my family took, I realized the sky really was as blue as I remembered it, and not white! After contacting her, she did agree to send a disc with all the images taken, as long as I promised not to hold the quality against her since they would be unedited. Of course I agreed because I wanted the pictures, and we did receive the disc. When we received the disc, it had 900 images total, all unedited as expected. However, I realized how much work was put into the editing process. Every single one of our pictures that was taken outside had little gray spots all over the image. I am not a professional and do not know if this could have been avoided, but to me it seemed as simple as wiping the lens with a cloth. Being new at destination weddings, maybe she was unaware of the added complications of humidity, but maybe that's just the way it is. I did appreciate the work she did in editing the 300, because it must have been a large amount of time (although it seemed with some that she just brightened it to the max to make the spots disappear). I spent over an hour to edit the spots out of just one picture. She had also agreed to re-edit a few pictures, but never did. She also never refunded our deposit of $150, which was to hold the date until we booked her travel costs. I didn't even realize we were supposed to get it back until I looked at the contract again after the wedding. Once I contacted her about it, I never heard from her again. Luckily we have all the pictures, and it was only $150, but still! I am so sorry to everyone who has lost so much more!
  4. I like the wine glasses, but I received a couple of similar ones as gifts and have yet to use them. When I have a glass of wine I reach for the classic (clear) glasses. I'm worried about being able to throw them in the dishwasher, so they just sit on my shelf. Love the idea, but I think the jewelry box is more practical and will get more use.

Also did you any of you play music during the dinner reservation or is there back ground music that the restaurant plays? We are going to have a cocktail reception in which we will bring our Ipod but not sure what to do about dinner... also for those brides that havent gotten married yet what do you plan to do? Thank you! We only had 20 in our group and didn't want to go all out on a private event either. We had our dinner at Mundaca, and asked if they could set us up outside on the terrace (supposedly only for concierge level guests). One of my girlfriends schmoozed the manager and talked him into giving us half the terrace (I posted pics earlier in this thread). I don't remember hearing music, but maybe it was just because we were outside. We used the BOSE ipod dock and played our own songs throughout dinner (I made a playlist just in case and I'm so glad I did). Hope this helps!
  6. Cheri - I bought them from another bride on the forum, so I don't know where they were purchased from. There are many brides who have ordered them, or similar ones. Try doing a search! Good luck
  7. Bought these from someone on the forum (sorry I can't remember who to give credit to). I didn't use these because we didn't end up having enough people...I was going to have my husband and the BM wear them, but they ended up not wearing jackets and I didn't like the way it looked on the shirts. I think the other bride used them at her wedding, although they are in great shape. There are 5 total....2 with white and pink ribbons and 3 with just pink ribbons. These could be easily removed if you wanted a different color ribbon. (My husband refused to wear the pink-I guess that's another reason we didn't use them.) Asking $30. Buyer pays shipping (it will be less than $5-very light!)
  8. Hi Ladies, More things I never used for my wedding...and never even took the tags off of! Both new with tags from Victoria's Secret. Purchased last summer and have been in a smoke free home. Brand new, just wrinkled from being packed away. White size small ribbed tank top "Just Married" in rhinestones. Paid $32 White size small "Sexy Little Bride" short sleeve hoodie. Paid $48 (on ebay currently for $70!) Buyer pays shipping. I'd like to get what I paid, but make an offer.
  9. I bought the maracas in Playa Del Carmen (after reading about it at BDW of course). Just about every other shop sold them so it was no problem. I walked up and down the strip and ended up going back to the first place I saw (right at the beginning of where ASP's shuttle drops you off) because they were the cheapest. They had a garbage pail sized bin full of tons of colors, so I dug through to get as many different ones as possible. I paid $1.50 a pair, and each guest got one, so I only spent $30! (17 guests plus the photographer plus us). Everyone loved them! As for the programs, I started them just a few weeks before we left and finished them literally the day before. Yazmin (my WC) was able to give me the name of the minister ahead of time, and we had already chosen our locations months ahead. I think the hardest part for me was choosing the readings. I made the programs myself in Microsoft Word, if anyone is interested in the templates...
  10. DH just took these down from the attic and threatened to throw them away! I tried selling them a few months ago and had several brides interested but they all fell through (mostly because of shipping costs to Canada). So I figure I will try again... If you live in the US, these will ship at a flat rate with priority mail! There are 10 of these-color is blue. $20 plus shipping, or best offer! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/CIMG5289.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/CIMG5284.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/CIMG5288.jpg
  11. I didn't bring a cake serving set and just used theirs...I was a little nervous about this because I had read in someone's review that the server they provided was just a butter knife and wouldn't cut through the cake. Here is a pic of the one we had... http://rachelandscottswanson.shutterfly.com/2119 It's plain but I didn't need anything fancy and thought it was fine. It cut through the cake fine, even though the cake was a little weird. If you want something fancy, bring your own, but if you don't care I would say just use theirs.
  12. I brought a second dress that was short that I planned to change into if mine became too uncomfortable dancing, but I never used it. Honestly, once I had my dress on I loved it so much that I wanted to wear it for as long as I could knowing I would never wear it again.
  13. Thanks for all the nice comments guys! After making my invites and program fans I realized how much work goes into it! I thought this would be an easy way out. When I made these I worked the overnight shift where I was watching over kids while they slept but could basically do personal stuff all night long...this came in really handy with wedding planning. I would say I spent about 20 hours all together on the formatting, but these kept getting put aside for more important things. I had actually made 10 other pages but never finished them. Then printing actually took a few hours.I was doing it just hours before we left for the airport. I had to print each individually and feed the paper through one by one because of its thickness. I had the most trouble with my colored cardstock. It was just a shiny cardstock from Michael's, but it didn't get along so well with my printer. It kept getting stuck while printing the palmtree so it would get all crooked. Luckily I only made 10 books. I'm glad other brides are getting use out of this!
  14. I purchased my freezedried petals from flyboynaturals.com. I ordered 60 cups and put them in gallon sized ziplock bags. I put one in my carry on, one in my suitcase, and one in my mom's suitcase, hoping that if one was confiscated I would still have some. Honestly, I don't know if they are considered plants. I didn't claim them on my customs form though. On one of the bags I even went at far to write "fake petals" on the bag. They all got there safe and sound. My carry on was searched but the petals were on the bottom and they didn't even go that far. One bag went in the flower girl's bucket to be used down the aisle and a second bag was used for the toss (17 guests). We didn't need the third bag and I brought it home and used it the decorate tables at my AHR. I paid $60 with shipping for them and thought it was well worth it. It was way more expensive at the resort for a small bag. They looked fresh right through till my AHR a week after we returned too.
  15. they do weddings every hour between 11 AM and 6 PM. But since there's two gazebos they probably can do 2 each hour. In the summer there won't be as many, and it helps to get married during the week if possible. We were married on a Thursday in July and were the only wedding that day. You can check the availability on their website to see how many are scheduled.

I am sort of a control freak, so I wouldn't let anyone else plan...I'm also laid back so I didn't plan all the way down to the napkins though. It was a simple wedding. 17. Anything else about marriage you'd like to say? It's work. But you work hard and play harder!
  17. I would want more than a week! DH and I returned from Mexico on July 22nd and had scheduled our AHR for August 1st. The wedding was so easy, but the AHR was SO STRESSFUL. It probably didn't help that we bought a house 3 days before leaving for Mexico and the wedding, so when we got back we were moving. We rented a place, but did everything else ourselves. The only way I would agree is if FMIL was doing all the planning. Otherwise, it's way too much. You need time to unwind!
  18. Oh, and if anyone wants any of the pages, just email me at [email protected] and I can send them to you...but again, everything except the timeline is in Adobe format.
  19. Looking back, they all kind of blend together. Each page is really only 4x6. I hope this helps!
