  1. Welcome Carmen! You're getting married just a week before me and at another Palace property! I am definitely going to check out Playacar and the other Palace resorts while I am there...can't wait! Best of luck with your planning!
  2. Hi girls...I'm getting married at Aventura Spa Palace in July...part of the Palace chain...also never been there, but a friend got married at Moon Palace and loved it. Just so you know, on the Palace website you can check dates and times of weddings...I always like to know how many weddings will be on my day...we are getting married on a Thursday so hopefully there won't be too many, and right now it's still just us Just thought you guys might like to check it out... Good luck with all your planning! I hate how there aren't too many of us Palace brides (except for MP)...they all seem gorgeous!
  3. Yay! Sounds fabulous...so glad you enjoyed yourself. I am also not into the red carpet thing so I'm glad you said it looks fnie without it...I have been trying to find my own aisle runner in white or something like that, but now I think I won't worry about it and maybe just use some petals down the aisle. The Pandero Terrace is exactly what we want for our cocktail hour too! I can't wait to see pictures of it...we actually asked if we could do our ceremony there too (I'm not really a gazebo person); they first said no, but when I asked again they said they would look into it...the more I think about it, maybe it wouldn't be right, and it's nice to change locations...the gazebo you were at was pretty close to the terrace right? Mundaca is where we were going to have our wedding dinner (it's close and we need to stay on that side of the resort since we have a child attending), but I'm nervous about the food/casualness? Is there another restaurant you would recommend on that side? And now I'm REALLY nervous about my hair. I will probably do my own makeup anyway, but I was planning to have my hair done there...now I'm freakin out a little...I don't really want to be a Golden Girl! Haha... I can't wait to see your pics, and I would LOVE the link to your snapfish if you don't mind... Congrats again
  4. Unfortunately, my experience with DB was not so pleasant. Even with an appointment, I waited over an hour just to try on one dress, even though there was no one else in the store. I think it has a lot to do with the one you go to...I'm in CT and there are 3 in my state. I've called the other 2 and the people I've spoken to have been really nice, but my experience with the one closest to me has been awful...I'm still not happy with my dress but really don't want to go back there... I think you will be fine though...I have heard some really good things, and their prices are reasonable. I love their BM dress selection too... Good luck!
  5. So I just checked Elizabeth Medina's blog in hopes of some pics...there's a wedding on there from the 14th so yours must be coming soon! I can't freakin wait...
  6. Yes! I just hired my photographer a few weeks ago...Misti from "Expressions by Misti" She is on the forum and was doing a giveaway (I think it is still going on) We basically just pay to fly her down from Nashville and then 3 nights hotel...so for like $1500 we are getting 10 hours of photography and all the pics on CD...totally reasonable compared to the quotes I had been getting! I am also sharing her with another bride on here who is getting married at the MP a few days after me so we are splitting the cost of airfare...I totally lucked out! Erin- Congratulations! I am so glad you had a good time and I can't wait for your review! I'm sure I will have tons of questions for you, but I'll wait until you post and see if you answer and of them...I'll try to let you relax a little before I bombard you! Enjoy a few days of newlywed life before I make you crazy
  7. I love your old ones, but I agree that the VS goes better with your dress...it's going to look perfect! Congrats!
  8. I think you are each supposed to buy each other's...but I'm really not sure. We each ended up buying our own...but not on purpose. My FI found his at the Zales outlet when we were in FL last year, and I bought mine at sale in the mall when I was by myself. They ended up being about the same proce so it really didn't matter. I think my FIs was actually a litte more... I don't think it really matters...as soon as you tie the knot your money is all the same anyway...I would say it's nice to shop for them together though...
  9. Ahhh I have this same problem...I wear "fake" earrings a lot because I can't afford to buy all gold earrings, but I have to take them out when I go to sleep or work out or anything like that. If I am good about this, they don't flare up, but every once in a while they still do and then I can't wear anything for DAYS. My earlobes get bright red and swollen and hurt... I don't really have any advice, except maybe to take them out as much as you can, clean them, and ideally, buy the real stuff Maybe the platinum earrings you have are wearing down or something? Weird...
  10. OMG! This is awful...and so close to your date I have 4 very close friends, and had always said they would all be bridesmaids. One of them told me last year she would not be able to come, so I didn't even bother asking her. I am sure she is upset now bc we had always told each other that we woudl be each others BMs, but I can't stand her drama anymore. She blew off my birthday last year, I am sure she would blow off the wedding anyway. As for the other three, only one has committed (my MOH). One lives in England and I knew from the beginning she may not be able to go...she just moved there recently and hasn't found a job yet. My third friend said she would go, but is single and doesn't want to go alone. She was going to room with another friend of ours, who can no longer go, so now she is saying she's not sure! I understand that it's more expensive to go by yourself, but I've offered her to split the cost of the room with another of my friends or family members who are going as singles, and she thought it would be too weird. I'm nervous that she is going to back out... Now that I've read this I think I'm going to give my BMs a deadline to book. I know it sounds shitty but I don't want to run into problems with programs and that kind of thing... I'm the same way about giving people the benefit of the doubt, but I think I will have to make an exception for my wedding...I don't want anything to ruin it. One of the reasons we are getting married in Mexico is to RELIEVE stress...it's things like this that show you who your true friends are! Your wedding is going to be perfect no matter what...I can't wait till you get back and I can hear all about it!
  11. Your welcome...you could also search the net (that's how I found him)...there were a bunch that did this. Good luck!
  12. Awww...well at least she got the backup! It was so nice of you to go through all the trouble to make sure she had a bouquet at all...thanks for the heads up about ordering flowers this way though...
  13. Has anyone else sent out invites that were 5 1/2 x 8 1/2? (Referred to as 6 x 9 some places)...I am looking for a pocket or gatefold to put my invites in to send them out (I don't want to just stick them in an envelope), but I'm having a hard time finding this size. I'd also be willing to make them myself but am not sure on paper size to do so...Any help would be sooo appreciated! I'm considering changing the size of my invites just to make it easier but didn't really want to have to do that...
  14. I have been to David's a couple different times with friends getting married and have never been able to be helped without an appointment. I told myself I would never buy my dress there, but actually just did recently and am going to pick it up this week. When I went (with an appointment) they acted like they were extremely busy even though there were only a few other people in the store. I waited almost an hour past when my appointment was just to be able to try on ONE FREAKING DRESS (and saw the person who ended up being my consultant walking around doing nothing and hanging out in the back room). At least I liked it on me as much as I did staring at it for an hour, otherwise I would have been really pissed. I can't remember if I ever went during the week, but I would make an appointment just to be safe. Good luck!
  15. This is tough! I had a similar problem with my family. I don't see my dad's side of the family so I only had to worry about my mom's to begin with...and it's not huge. She has two sisters and a brother, who each have children (who have children). I am very close with one aunt and one cousin (who's daughter will be my flower girl). I was also a bridesmaid in this cousin's wedding a few years ago. The problem I had was, can I invite the one aunt/cousin family and not anyone else? I finally decided to just invite everyone. All together it was about 22 extra people, and since we are not doing a reception, it wouldn't cost me any more. I know the economy is bad and I'm not as close with them so I doubt any of them will come anyway. Out of all of them, I honestly would love for them to be there, EXCEPT for my mom's brother and his wife, who I HATE. SO I guess I am taking my chances...
  16. I'm glad I'm not the only one here! I to want to show my FI my dress sooo badly and he refuses to look at it. I don't know if I agree with the bad luck thing but I think it will be more special for him to see it for the first time when I am walking towards him. I guess I am a little nervous that he won't like it
  17. Thanks girls...my girlfriends LOVED them...the two that got them already both cried...I'm just waiting for my friend in England to get hers. The suspense in killing me!
  18. I'm obsessed with photobooks...so when it came time to ask my girls to be in my wedding I decided to give them a book of pictures of us together... I ordered from shutterfly and was very pleased with the results...got a great price too, because there was a deal around Xmas for additional photobooks at half off...so I only paid full price for one of them. Shutterfly has deals like that all the time so check them out! I found the poem online and actually stuck 2 poems together and tweaked it slightly... Here are some pics And this is the poem I used: You have always been there for me more than just a friend You know exactly who I am and everywhere I've been You;re someone I can turn to any hour of the day Seems I only have to think of you and you'll be on your way No matter where life takes us no matter where we roam When I'm with you my friend my heart feels right at home We've shared so many special times our friendship grows each day We've shared our secrets and our dreams and laughed along the way And now at this most special time as my wedding day grows near I need you more than ever before to calm my nerves and fear When I am walking down the aisle a very happy bride It would mean the world to me to have you by my side I gave the books to 2 of the girls on New Years Eve and both said yes...the third book is being shipped to my friend who lives in England and she hasn't received it yet. I did it this way because I knew I wouldn't be able to ask her in person. I'll see her in April, but that will be too late!
  19. Hey Emily, Our TA is Colin Stout...his website is kokotravel.com. He is a timeshare member of Palace and vacations there all the time with his wife. (When I booked our stay for the Aventura he called me during his vacation at Vallarta Palace!) His prices were pretty good too and you get perks like free massages if you stay a week or more. The only thing is he doesn't do flights, just the hotel stay, but that didn't bother us. I'm surprised there are so many TAs that refuse to book at Palace...it seems like a great chain, there are so many great reviews on tripadvisor and I'm sooo excited to be getting married there! Good luck! Rachel
