  1. Thanks so much, ladies! I can't wait to see the rest of the pics too! But now that the "trash the dress" is over, can anyone recommend me a cleaner to restore my dress? Heheheh...(nervous laugh)
  2. Hello. I got to roll around in the mud for my trash the dress, and now I need to erase any indication of mud so my parents won't kill me! I called around the gown restoration companies in NY, and I was quoted $600 and up. Can anyone recommend me any good place for me to get my dress cleaned? I appreciate your help in advance!
  3. I have to write a separate review for my photographer Fer, because he was that fantastic! I think if I were to choose a top-ten best decision about my wedding, he’d be in the top one or two! I found him through the association of wedding photographer’s site, and I knew immediately that we would get along. Calling himself “Rockstar wedding photographer†his attitude is very laid back and casual. But once he starts shooting, he’s on fire!! He was like a super ninja, climbing chairs and tables and being everywhere at once. He was so full of energy, and it made me go the extra mile to get awesome pictures. ( I even laid on mud at one point) I had a meal set up for him during the reception, but he didn’t even touch the food. Instead, he compiled all the photos into a slide show to show our guests during the reception. My guests were a group of artists and film makers (I used to be in the Animation industry, now a Graphic Design student/ my husband is a story artist at Pixar) and we were blown away by the quality of his work. The pictures were so dynamic, beautifully composed, and each tells a story. They were far from your typical run of the mill formal wedding pictures. If you’re the type of bride who likes pictures with lots of action and emotion, this guy is the man to hire. I flew him to Riviera Maya from his hometown in Monterrey, and it was worth every penny- and then some! Without further ado, here are the preview pics. It’s under “Ikumi and Bill†Fer Juaristi Blog. Rockstar Destination Wedding Photographer, Mexico, Riviera Maya, Monterrey, Worldwide.
  4. Congratulations! You look absolutely stunning. I had my wedding there on 5/9th. I'm reminiscing about it even though I'm still at the resort!
  5. I'm currently in EDR. I'm putting up lots of pictures while I'm here to help out the future brides!
  6. I've never heard of this "group specials" As far as I know, if you book a casita and your guests book 3 more rooms, you get a free weding package which comes with (1)dinner which you can choose to use for welcome/reception or farewell breakfast at El cocotal. You have to purchase private dinner if you want to book private dinner at Tucanes or beach location I haen't picked wine since I don't drink! You can find more info on the EDR thread
  7. I'm at EDR right now, and I'll post more as more comes to my mind: Things I should have packed: More cash (many outside vendors including van charters don't take CC) watch ( I rely on cell phone for time at home) more shorts Things I'm glad I packed: Laptop with Skype installed (US calls are way cheap than hotel!) portable harddrive with all my data and music receipts for guests' gifts for customs light shawl to avoid getting my shoulders burned hair dryer (their's is tiny) stretch film for packing. Banding Film W/ Handle sharpie/scribble notes/ fabric glue/ Things I wish I did: pack my pinata and fragile items into a box within a box, so I can check-it in at the airport (they wouldn't let me board as a carry on, so I had to pay $60 to double box) Things I'm gald I did Buy a scale/wii fit and distribute the weight of each suitcase so I won't be charged for overweight fee created PDF of all the wedding details to give to the coordinator picked my battles- I went agaist OOT bags to splurge on gifts instead, went against weding party the less I have to stress about, the better Arrived a couple days before everyone for some R/R. Also handy if you forget something- like cash!!! More to come!
  8. Ikupoo here. I'm at EDR right now, and I'm planning to take pictures that I couldn't find easily on internet! I'll post pictures as I take them for the next 7 days (time allowing) Godbless wifi. Here's the details of Tucanes. If you play as slideshow, it plays as if you're turning in one place. BTW, I was planning to put 3 long tables in one row for the reception, but they have to put it in an "L" shape in order to fit it under the palapa. They didn't tell me this until after I made my seating arrangements and all. Boo. El Dorado- Tucanes - a set on Flickr
  9. I'm getting married there on Tuesday. I'll post a review in the near future, and I hope that'll be helpful
  10. It's so nice to see the pics from the member that I've been following for the past year! Congratulations, you both look so lovely and happy!
  11. It's been a very short year since my engagement, and I'm looking forward to the day and will be sad when it's all over! I'm planning and writing my own ceremony, since my officiant bailed due to swine flu. I'm also making my own wedding program and doing a boudoir drawing for my sweetie. After that, all I need to do is pack and that's it!
  12. I'm an artist, and so is my friend. She's doing STD for someone right now. Maybe you'd like her style? ♥ The Art of Liana Hee ♥

Does anyone have feedback they could share on how/why they chose El Dorado and what nightly rate they are getting (for 2 people)? Also an estimate on the total wedding cost (20-30 people)? Thanks! jen Ooh! This thread still lives! Instead of the nightly rate, you may want to check the package rate with airfare and hotel. It's cheaper to book them together. As for wedding cost, they LOVE to nickel and dime you for everything ($500 for using outside vendors, $5/person setup fee for decorations, etc) so you should take that into consideration
  14. STD is useful in letting people know about the event, but I don't know how much of a help it'll be to assess the number of guests. Almost everyone kept changing their minds until the very last moment, even after the deadline! From my experience, my guests all said "yes!!!!" and slowly started to pull out one by one. You woudn't want to send it too early, because some people will just forget about it that far in advance. I sent the STD about 7-8 months before the event. Then I sent the invite about 3-4 months before the event to remind people.
  15. In my case, my own officient flaked on me, amongst plenty of others. But I'm really appreciative of all the people who are actually coming, and now I'm glad that I can spend the extra $ on people who want to be there. I also planned my own bachelorette all girls Vegas trip and my fiance's bachelor party. I was frustrated at first, but now I can't wait!
  16. I can't believe this guy! What a joke! Seriously, what kind of professional would give you an attitude for telling him what you want!
  17. Lucky you, chloe. I would have loved to have three awesome photographers following me around if my resort didn't charge me $500/vendor fee! Even if the photographers were free, I would be paying $1500 just to have them there. If you use facebook, I'm sure you've become facebook friends with Fer by now. He regularly posts new pics and updates his status a million times per day. I haven't met him yet, but he seems like a really great guy!
  18. I got motivated by finding activities that I enjoy, so I can focus on the fun instead of the numbers on the scale. In my case, I wanted to work on my back muscles, so I do pole dancing and trapeze. I still go to the gym but it's definitely not as fun as the other two.
  19. Well, I got my first guest cancellation today, saying that his mom was crying on the phone begging him not to go (geez, it's not SARS people!). I emailed the person and suggested to wait and see, and his girlfriend agreed. That made me feel better for now. But it's frustrating that I can't put down the deposit for the menus and the ruins trip, etc. knowing that there's a small possibility that my day will be affected. The next couple of months should be the most fun in planning all the details! Right now, I just have to hang on tight and ride it out.
  20. I just wanted to let the ladies know that optimistic attitude from genmalone and tylersgirl is making me feel a whole lot better and hopeful that mine will go on as scheduled. I already waited almost a year since the engagment. I don't want to extend another year! Thanks ladies!
  21. I can relate dealing with flaky people. If their hearts are not into it, don't offer to do things in the first place! FYI, my FI and I are planning to throw a bachelorist party (that's what I'm calling it) at a strip club. I love looking at girls pole dancing (if they're good) and what man doesn't want to see his FI get a lapdance from another lady?! Most likely, we would have to plan this, since it's very likely that none of my friends would think about planning a party for us (although they're good people) and I'm a little overwhelmed that I have to plan this on top of planning a wedding, but if it seems too stressing, I'm not dong it. I'm more concerned that you're dealing with Lymes Disease. Take care of your body, and have a happy wedding!
