If someone decides they don't like where you're having your reception at home or that it's too far for them to travel you don't pay for them to go somewhere else...why should this be any different? I completely agree...and to put another spin on it...if you were having a wedding at home & arranged great hotel prices for out of town guests & they decided not to stay at this hotel then you would not pay the difference in rate, right? This is the same thing! I don't see a problem with making them pay the day pass, but it should be brought to their attention up front before they book. If you are not comfortable asking them to pay the full amount, maybe you could split the cost with them...50/50. I am staying at the RIU complex in Puerta Plata. We are booking the RIU Bachata, but if anyone books either of the other 2 hotels on the property then we will be charged $35 pp for the dinner - I will be making my guests aware of this. Good luck!

Saying it is outrageous....is it outrageous? I thought for such a nice hotel and it is all inclusive and it includes transfers that it wasn't that bad. I feel like saying to them...then don't go for a week...go for a few days...it is over memorial day weekend...so it is a long weekend....they could go for a few days. They are driving me mental. I've learned through this that you cannot please everyone all the time. When we booked our DW we made sure that our parents, siblings, MOH & BM could make it...after that everyone else was a bonus! I'd LOVE to have all my family & friends there...but you have to do what YOU want to do. It's YOUR wedding after all!!! In my opinion it sounds like a great deal!! I'm going to the RIU Bachata in Puerta Plata and paying 1514 (taxes inc.) pp from Toronto. 1684 for a Paradisus sounds great! Good luck... -

What is this BDW lottery?? I'm going to check it out!! Great...one more thing to keep me from doing my work!! LOL

What is everyone wearing on their feet? Any suggestions for me...I'm completely lost! I don't want anything with a pointy heel as there is cobblestone leading to the gazebo. I would like to have a bit of a heel since my FI is 6'4" and I am 5'6"!! I would like something in a leather, or fabric...NO PLASTIC (it tends to cause blisters when sweaty!!) I am getting the "just married" flip flops for afterwards. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome!!! You will definitely find LOTS of information here!!! I am now a BDW junkie!! Happy planning!

Thanks for the photo instructions!! I just have to find time to read it! I am trying not to spend most of my day on this site now...I am completely addicted and not being very productive at work!!! They're soon going to fire my @$$!! lol Then I'll have problems...how will I pay for the wedding!! I was just speaking with a friend of mine last night & if you know of anyone we can't really go for the full week & have airmiles, they can fly down, stay for "x" number of nights (all inclusive) and then fly back. They will just be responsible for their tranfer to the hotel from the airport. If you go to the RIU website (Riu Hotels & Resorts) you can book your room right there. My friend is a flight attendant with west jet so she doesn't pay for flights - she's planning on going for 5 nights I think...& it will cost $1076 (tax in) for two people! (Just an option I thought you should know about!) Love the dress by the way!!! Its beautiful!! I love that color...a friend of mine just had her wedding & that was the color of her BMs dresses! It looks so nice...check out their pics here... Erin & Chad - a set on Flickr . I agree with the people in the other forum that you should go with a light color...silver, or a lighter shade of your dress color. What are the guys wearing?? -
The dress wore me!!

I hear you...although I am wearing white...I did not want one that totally engulfed me! Here is the link for my dress... It's very nice & simple...shows cleavage, but tastefully!! (I'm all about the cleavage!) lol Style 8439 Good luck with the rest of the "hunting"!!! -
Welcome to the most addicting wedding site out there!!! I've been working at about 50% efficiency (at my job) since I signed up!! Happy planning!!

January 2009 Brides Post Here

Wow...I really am ahead of the invitation & STD thing!! I sent my STD's with my Xmas cards last year!!! And my invitations went in March or April (I think! - it's been so long I can't even remember!) We booked the wedding the beginning of March so it had to be around then! I wanted everyone to have a lot of notice!!! As for everything else I'm a littel slack! I just ordered my dress (the second, and hopefully final one!) in August and it's not expected in until December! I hope everything is ok with it!! Jeff has not even gone looking for his clothes...he wants all white linen...and I think he's going to find it hard with the fall coming in now! We also have to get our wedding bands...which is going to be difficult since mine will have to be custom! I have ordered my favors...wedding fans (click here http://www.everythingfortablefavors..../EB1013)...and labels (click here Everything for Weddings: Starfish Shaped Stickers) I love them! But that's the extent of what I have done!! So much more to do!! lol Wish me luck! Oh...by the way...we leave for Puerta Plata Jan.18th & we're getting married on Jan.22!!! -
Is anyone going to Puerto Plata?

I looked into MANY, MANY, MANY other resorts, but finally went back to it & now just over 4 mths to go!! -

I meant to ask...have you bought your dress yet? What about bridesmaids dresses? What are your colors?? I'm attaching my dress & my MOH's dress. I think I'm going to go with orange & white accent flowers. I can't seem to load my pics...do you have any hints?? I changed them to .png's...I put them in word docs...but I can't seem to upload them... I've also added a pic to my signature & that doesn't seem to be working either...even though it shows it when I go in to edit my signature. WTF? -

For my MOH I am planning on doing up a beach tote bag w/ MOH custom tank top, jewellery for wedding day (a palm tree pendant), gift cert. for the spa on site to cover cost of hair, and a cute mani/pedi set in the shape of flip flops! And I'm sure I'll find more things to add as I keep looking! For his BM, Jeff is planning on buying him a watch...not really beachy...but that's what he wants to do! We still have quite a few things left to do...wedding bands, documents, Jeff's attire (he's wearing white linen pants with long sleeve white linen shirt), have to order my toasting flutes Add to Cart , I need shoes & jewellery, complete our registry, get CDs & labels for our guests (for them to send us their pics!). Oh boy...I'm realizing how much more there is to do!!! And now who knows what's going to happen with my TA. I just sent her an email saying I was not impressed with her crappy customer service lately She was fantastic at first...but it seems like now that we have booked...and the majority of my party has too...she doesn't give me the time of day. I have sent her an email every week, for the last 3 weeks asking for information & she has only responded with an "I got your email and will respond when I deal with this urgent matter". I hope she treats me better now that I have made her aware of it - instead of worse!!! yikes! -
OOT bag info

A great idea a friend of mine told me...and that I am going to use...is a CD in a mailing envelope with your address on it...that way your guests can put wedding pics on the CD & send them to you! It can be a real pain trying to get a bunch of pics from an email!! Pre-paid postage is up to you! -
Congrats!! Welcome to one of the best forums out there!! I say that & I'm only new!!

BachataBride replied to saraece's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Right now I am planning on the gazebo wedding (that is the main reason we picked that resort) - but I will decide for sure once I get there if I want to change it to the beach. I think we're going to bring an actual ipod stereo (a small compact one) so we don't have to worry about hooking it into something that they have (if they even have it!). Hopefully we can find a battery operated one too for the beach!! I want to travel with my friends and family and somewhere along the line get hitched. That's is so funny...that is my thought too!! Although I do want SOME of the traditional stuff! I am having little favors...hand-held paper fans... Add to Cart and then I'm getting labels for the boxes...and that's it, besides our attendants gifts (we only have a MOH & BM). One other thing I am doing is CDs & envelopes for all my guests (well, one per couple). I am giving everyone a CD and envelope with our mailing address on it so that people can put their pics on it from the wedding & send it to us. I thought this would be a better idea than having ppl email, it's such a pain to get pics off an email! I'm hoping for the upgrade too, but don't count on it...I've heard of people not getting it (but I would really push for it when you're there! It might be available & they might just say its not, hoping that someone will pay for it!) I'm not upgrading my package...just ordering a few flowers, getting my hair done, maybe a spa day with the girls! What are your plans?? We also got a pretty good price from all of our gateways...about $1500 from TO, Halifax & Ottawa...and about $1800 from Edmonton (which is a fantastic price!) Do you have many coming from other gateways? We have 28 booked & confirmed right now, but still expecting a few others (if there is room on the plane!) -

We booked in March & Halifax was available then! St. John's was not/will not be until February. Both of us are from Newfoundland originally, so most of our guests are coming from Halifax. Wherewhen did you get the prices for the wedding. The last I received from the resort was $560 for the judge and an extra $60 for the gazebo. Luckily...I'm getting married on a Thursday...so no extra $150 for me!! It's funny how a "free" wedding can cost so much! You still have to get all your documents in order & translated...another couple hundred dollars!! As of right now, we do not have others staying anywhere but the Bachata, so we do not have to worry about that extra cost...and if anyone books too late & can't get a room at the bachata they can pay for their own pass!! We gave them MORE than enough notice!! (we booked in March for a January wedding!) Have you heard anything about having a reception? Can we do that?? Have access to an area for it, ie, staying after dinner at the restaurant!? I was thinking about just bringing an ipod stereo so we could have some tunes...first dance...that sort of "normal" wedding stuff! maybe we'll just do it on the beach! Any ideas for flowers?? How many in your wedding party? What are your colors?? What are you doing for gifts?? (or are you?) I'm not sure if you heard (or care)...but the gazebo can be very windy and people (even the b&g) have complained that they could not hear anything going on during the cermony. Not sure if this is something that concerns you, but I thought I would mention it! Also...I think that the extra cost for the guests is if they are coming from off the RIU complex. And if they are at the Mambo or Merengue they will be charged $35 (my last correspondence) for the dinner (since they are not permitted to eat at the Bachata). You should maybe have your TA clear that! Yay!! I'm so excited to have someone to compare notes with!!
