  1. Hello! I'm not a huge review writer and my wedding day involved finding out about the Air Transat recall of passangers at the wedding dinner. My husband was misinformed by the photographer between the ceremony and the posed shots that we would be leaving the next day (5 days into a 14 day wedding and honeymoon). So for half of these pictures at least one of us thought we were flying out the next day! I thought I'd post them because inspite of all the things that can go wrong a wedding at GBP is amazingly stress free and so worth it! Claudia, the photographer did a great job and Liam, the groom, did a great job of pretending! http://claudiaphoto.com/slideshows/c...l/maggie_liam/
  2. Hi Everyone, I've just returned from GBP 4 days early due to Air Transat's overreaction to the flu situation. Liam and I were lucky enough to have celebrated our wedding on April 28th. We didn't hear about Air Transat's decision to rescue us until Claudia told Liam midway through our photo session. He told her not to tell me and I couldn't figure out why he was being so grumpy until he finally told me when we sat down to dinner. All the other guests had heared about it during the break between the ceremony and dinner so the dissapointment and speculation dominated dinner conversation a bit. ( I hope his grumpiness doesn't show in our photos!) By the time we were at the poolside reception everyone was in party mode and we had a really great time. The wedding was truly beautiful and Yuritzia was amazing. It really is as easy as sitting down with her for 45 minutes 4 days before your wedding and POOF it happens just as you expected it too. As for Air Transat- We tried to leave early so that we could spend our second week in Mauii instead but we couldn't get out. They were HIGHLY uncommunicative and the details of when we would be "rescued" changed daily. We finally found out Sunday that we would be leaving on Tuesday. They said it was a direct flight to Vancouver but in fact we stopped in PV for an hour to pick up more passengers. If it was a true rescue they would have gotten us out earlier before the resort filled up with Mexican guests from Mexico City, Veracruz and Cancun. My view is that because people in Canada were cancelling trips and they would have had to dead head flights down to pick us up they rounded up passengers for 4 days worth of flights and two destinations as the most economical way to bring us home. We left the resort at 8:30 am yesterday and arrived home at 1:00am Cancun time. From April 28th to yesterday we had a difficult time relaxing and enjoying what was left of our wedding and honeymoon. We feel very grateful that we actually got to have our wedding and 29 of our 30 guests were able to attend. (Although 6 guests had to fly down on West Jet because Transat didn't inform our TA about a schedule change and they missed their flight!) When we hear about what other couples have been through we know that it could have been far worse. There was one couple that we heared of where the bride and her family flew down a few days before the groom and his family were due to arrive and he was unable to make it down. Imagine spending what was supposed to have been your wedding week without your groom? Anyhow, dispite our experience I would still recommend GBP as an ideal place for a destination wedding. I hope those of you who have had to change your plans have beautiful days wherever they may be and a lifetime of love and happiness to come. Maggie

Thanks, I've been keeping up with the thread on my email account and everyone's posts have made me feel far less stressed. That and I've finally heared from Jazmin so I'm not as worried about the details. I still don't know if my matron of honour is coming at all (that's what makes it hard to plan what the girls will wear. If we want matching dresses we need to order soon...) She knows it is a big resort but still doesn't relish spending that much money to be uncomfortable. Anyway, Happy New Year everyone!
  4. Hi everyone, I'm a colleague of Corvette's and I'm getting married at the GBP Akumal on April 28th. Every time I read this thread my anxiety goes through the roof! I thought this whole destination wedding thing was supposed to be ready made! We thought we would be having a very small wedding but it turns out were having around 30-40 people. I'd like to book a poolside reception but I haven't decided if we should go with the international or the basic. My fiance's step dad wants to pay for it so I'm thinking of going with the cheaper option. I'm going with the symbolic ceremony to be followed by a civil ceremony in Vancouver so I don't need to stress about documentation but now I'm concerned that our guests might feel duped if they find out it is just symbolic. My matron of honour hasn't confirmed that she's coming and if she does come she wants to stay off resort because my fiance's best friend is her ex. This makes it hard to plan what the girls will wear. On that note my fiance hasn't asked anyone to stand up for him.... I really just can't wait until the day so that whatever happens, happens and I don't have to worry about it anymore! BTW- what is the Hacienda?
  5. That is a great idea! I was thinking about trying to find small bottles and putting a label on them but I bet your idea would be more cost effective and you can probably get better quality tequila that way!
  6. Hi I'm Maggie. I'm planning to get married in April of 2009 in the Mayan Riveria. I'm a bit behind but a helpful colleague is nudging me in the right direction and suggested I join this forum.
