What to do- friend can't afford to come
KittenHeart replied to ktchi's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Well DON'T do what I did and spend a week in tears over it... I had the same exact thing happen with a bridesmaid and one of my BFF's last week. She was the first to book, booked her flights etc. and has been telling me for OVER 2 years she's SO there and 5 weeks before our wedding she backs out. I offered to pay for her too and asked her to come alone and she doesn't' want to borrow money or fly alone, her and her husband aren't doing great financially so I get it. It really shocked me and I can't even believe she wont be there so I'd offer if you want her there but if she's going through a tough time financially she may not be able to pay you back for awhile. -

As we were walking out of the house, our neighbor asked us, "So are you off to get married?!" I was thinking, "Oh crap!" since we're all hush-hush about it and only a couple people know. FI says I look like a country bride today, so my outfit must have given us away! Thank you! That was taken with my Blackberry while I was in a packing frenzy on Sunday YAY!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!! How exciting! Aww you should take a picture of you two and put it as your siggy on your legal day!

FI's Gift

I made FI a BD book as well and told him he doesn't have to get me anything. I know he'll love it and it was an opportunity for me to have a blast doing a sexy photoshoot -

HAHA, Karen, it's in the 50's here now and I'm inside wearing a peacoat. I wouldn't last a winter in NY, I'd be freezing all the time! I think it would be so much fun to come out and see you two! -
Oh I made FI a personalized t-shirt that says "I <3 The Bride" but the heart is black and has horns We always say "heart you!" to one another so it's kinda our thing. The hoodie I made myself says on the back "A.FARKAS EST. 5.8.2010" when we got engaged we went shopping the next day and I went to Abercrombie & Fitch, Fitch is my last name, and bought a hoodie that said " A.FITCH EST. 1892" and I mentioned to him that I would be sad that I would be unable to wear it after we were married and he told me he'd buy me a new one that said A.FARKAS since it's his last name.

I love personalized stuff...I think this is because I could never find my name on anything! Thank you! I have been considering it actually after taking a break after my wedding Just in Case kits are like others with OOT bags call Hangover Kits.... I just thought calling the "Just in Case" kits were better sounding They are basically mini first aid kits that have band-aids, wipes and such that I have added 2 packets of Emergen-C (powdered vitamin C), 2 packets of Excederin & a baggies of B1 vitamins (which is the vitamin that is depleted when you drink) I also created a list of everything included in the kit and taped it to the inside of the kit and also designed a sticker for the front of kit. I'll put up a picture! Quote: Originally Posted by taylorwd Wow what a bargain! Let's all go visit Amy! AGREED!!!!!

I live in Long Island and do the mall/driving thing and find it to be a pain in the butt with the city, walking everywhere with bags in hand. Maybe I'm lazy =) HeHe But I love nothing more than coming up from the subway and smelling that city air and hot dog/pretzel guy on the corner. =) You're totally right, grass is always greener! I am in sales and my territory covers the Northeast and I constantly get people telling me they come out here to shop etc. I think driving in NY would be a pain, heck driving in LA is a major pain but I think it's the thrill of only going to NY once a year and exhausting myself with shopping out there for a week. I live across the street from two major shopping centers, an 18 screen theatre, 4 Starbucks and a Target and 2 miles outside of Hollywood so I'm in no shortage of shopping by any means. There's a different vibe in NY, fast paced, etc. that I just love. I've wanted to live in NY since I was a kid, I just highly doubt I'd be able to survive more than a week of winter. Winter in Cali is 50's and maybe occaisional rain! Quote: Originally Posted by Lady_Di so jealous that you have friends that live in NYC, Amy! That sounds a lot of fun! It's such a blast! Me and another BFF have a girls week, go visit her and us 3 shop for hours and hours then eat somewhere amazing and hit a fabulous bar So it's more of a girls week which really revolves around shopping, good food and good times. You can find great deals in NY, best shopping ever! I definitely prefer it to LA. LA has TONS of shopping too but NY tends to stay away from too much bright colors or pastels, Cali does this Easter colors thing in the spring and I'm more of a solid darker colors and no prints please person Besides I hate having to drive everywhere, it's way better taking the train all over the city. -

Because my sister is famous for buying too much and weighing more on the trip home then going down there. =) That's brilliant!!! I didn't even think of bringing it with me to weigh before we leave. 65% of my luggage is stuff I'm not bringing back with me though so this trip I wouldn't need it but every year I go to NY for a week to shop and really cut it close at the airport trying to make it back -

So how did you arrange the signature cocktail? Did you give instructions for how to make it and they ask for it at the bar or pre-arrange for some to be made? I am so early in this process...hopefully I'm not getting to far ahead of myself:) Sorry to jump in on Wendy's question here, I also have a signature cocktail and I just asked my coordinator if I could have one and just give her the recipe. She checked and got the approval from onsite. I then made a girls evening out of it and made 3 different pitchers of cocktails and we tried them all and picked our favorite, then I sent my WC the recipe. I also have a signature drink for the Sky Deck I created as well for the welcome cocktail.

I've seen a few posts regarding that. Thanks ladies for all the help! I have the Sweet Free Wedding Package and the Sky Deck. I've been planning my wedding for over 2 years now and was looking into AS before it was even built, LOL! That package is no longer available but the Pearl seems most comprable to the Free as in I decided to build mine from the ground up. I am brining real touch flower for my centerpieces since they are submerged orchid stems with a floating candle on top and I am renting the vases from them. They quoted be $400 per table for 3 orchid stems and vases so I opted to bring my own orchids, much cheaper.

Yeah, they used to have a rule where you had to book the Silver Package to even be allowed to book the Sky Deck, so you might want to check into that as well. The downside with AS is that there are lots of hidden costs that they won't bend on, just be aware of that!
