To all you brides planning on having your wedding in the gazebo - what sort of decorations are you planning on? We are ordering bolts of tulle to decorate the posts - I guess just the 2 in the front and the 2 in the rear??. Anybody doing anything with the walkway leading up to the gazebo? Not sure yet about flowers, etc.

I order from JC Penney's. I know you have to order on line and wait, but the turn-around time is actually less than a week. I have found through the years, the styles and sizes that fit me the best and just order those. Their dress pants fit me well (5th Avenue, I believe) and you can get any of the major jean brands (Levi's, etc.) I actually find the tall tops to be too long for me, as all my height is in my legs (34" inseam). Good luck!

I know many times emails can get lost, especially when going to foreign countries or overseas. She has been responsive in the past, so give her a couple more days after sending your second email. I know they have 3 WC's now at Tulum, and I think they're going to have to get her some help soon too. Seems like an awful lot for one person to handle.

Are you all going to schedule things for your entire group and whoever wants to go - goes, or are you just going to do things on your own? If you hire a company for a tour, do you need to guarantee a certain number? AND if, doing it as a group, will you write up some sort of schedule and include in the OOT bags or leave in the room? So many "little" things that need to be covered. Bianca - that really is nice of your Dad and I understand your hesitancy to take the money regarding his circumstances. $$'s are really tight for everyone right now. My niece asked that people just attend the wedding and not worry about a gift, although she did register on Target and another site, but just for small gifts, for those who want to give a gift-which I think most people still want to do.

Have any of you thought about planning activities for your guests? We are looking at going into PDC for a night - at one of the nightclubs - probably not until the day after the wedding, which will be a Saturday night. My nephew is going to turn 21 a week before, so we want to celebrate that and his also coming home from Iraq!! My niece is doing a symbolic ceremony and he is going to preside over that in his dress uniform, which I think will look beautiful! Getting back to PDC... is anyone aware of a bus or car service that we could get to go there and back? How far is it? I've heard anywhere from 15 minutes to a 1/2 hour... Also, what is the catamaran that DPA has. I assume it's a fairly small boat that takes a couple people at a time. Is there something that can be rented that is larger for a 1/2 day sail or something? Possibly going to Tulum?

My niece's wedding is June 12, 2009. Her colors are fuschia & orange. She is going to use fuschia chair bows and the draping on the gazebo will be both colors. I think she has decided to use the fuschia bows for the reception, with white tablescloths and she is bringing orange overlays, and using white napkins. She thought about alternating the colors, but thought it might look too casual. The centerpieces will be mixed orange and fuschia and she wanted to put the votives around the centerpieces. I didn't even consider that the votives would go out; but it makes sense. Her reception is going to be by the adult pool. She is going to get luminaries to put around the pool. She asked Jacy about stringing small white lights, but there is an additional charge to set that up and after looking at the pictures; I'm not sure where you would hang or use the lights. We were talking last night about using rose petals (freeze-dried). Is anyone going to decorate the walkway across to the gazebo? She thought maybe some palm leaves or something. Does DPA have a runner they use?

But as Bianca said; you just have to go with the flow and people who know and love you will be happy for you and have a good time. On another note... my niece wants to decorate the gazebo with organza fabric. Does anyone know a good place to buy it in bulk? I figure she'll need quite a bit as she wants to run it across the front and down the sides. She also asked Jacy about getting votives on the tables and I don't think Jacy understood what votives were as she sent her pictures of hurricane lamps. Anyone know if DPA provides votives for the tables?

There was picture just posted on TA. Is this the adult pool area? If so, what is the area closest to the Marina (I assume the water in the background, is the Marina). Is that where a reception would be held? Dreams Puerto Aventuras (Puerto Aventuras, Riviera Maya) - Resort Reviews - TripAdvisor thanks. I couldn't figure out how to post just the picture...

Problems with not including my father's new wife (LONG)
RoryS replied to DGG's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
If your father is asking you and your sister to go along with things to keep the peace - just think - maybe she gives him flack about alot of other things and he has found it easier to just go along rather than argue with her. By not including her, you're probably going to make things go even tougher on your Dad. Is there a special ceremony you can do in the church ceremony that would include just your parents and FI's Dad to show them how special they are to you both. -
Calling the fashion police!!

I think your gown is absolutely gorgeous. I would go with either a floor length or chapel length veil. Your dress looks like a 30's (think, Jean Harlow) style gown and they wore the longer veils back in the day. You could get a bit of the beading detail along the edge, to blend with, but not detract from your beautiful gown. Here's some descriptions on what the longer veils are: Cathedral veils are worn only for formal weddings. The veil will extend onto the floor at least six inches past the train for a very dramatic look. Cathedral length veil looks best when worn with a cathedral or semi-cathedral length gown. This look is very popular today. Cathedral wedding veils come in one or two layers, 30â€x 120†length for cathedral wedding veils. Chapel length veils are extended to the floor and three inches past the train of your dress. If you are looking for a long veil that wont get in the way as much as a cathedral veil a chapel wedding veil might work best for you. The chapel length veils come in one or two layers, 30"x 90" length for chapel length wedding veils. Floor length veils go to the end of your dress, just hitting the floor. The floor length wedding veils come in one or two layers, 30â€x 72†length for floor length wedding veils. -
In these days, the best thing your husband can do is network, network, network. Talk to everybody you know and let them know you're looking. If he worked with customers/clients; let them know too. Sometimes it's difficult for a man to reach out to others, because their job is part of who they are, especially, if they have a successful career. He'll need your support and love more than ever now. I know when my husband was laid off years ago; I sometimes felt he really wasn't looking to find something else (which, I know was not the case), but he just didn't want to take a job - just to have a job. We went thru another lay-off years later and I learned from that first experience. I even networked for him and people were very kind and helpful. It definitely brought us closer together the 2nd time around because my approach was better.

Please know that I will of course be doing a review on the resort once we get back from the wedding we come home March 4th. We are honey mooning at Dreams Tulum =) I am sure that I am driving Jacy crazy right now. I am trying to convince her that the $18 extra for the cocktail is crazy!! I will let you know how the fight goes. Please let me know if there is anything that you want me to find out in particular and I will. How exciting for you!! I guess you're officially #1 - at least for this board! Did you decide where you're holding your cocktail hour/reception or are you waiting 'til you get the DPA ? What plan did you pick? Are you having more than 20 people? is that why the $18 additional for the cocktail hour? Good luck with everything - can't wait to hear how things go!

In my opionon that is the best place to hold your reception because it is not as windy over there and it is more private. Also there is a bar right there so you wont have to go far for drinks! Let me know if anyone has any other questions. I am not getting married there but I totally would after spending a week there Thanks so much for that info. I didn't know that about the sand!! Learn something new every day. I'm glad to hear you say you would get married there if you hadn't already planned to hold it at DT. I've been reading the reviews on TA and was starting to get a little bit concerned. Is there an area besides the pool that would be nice for the cocktail hour. We want to do them separately.

Regarding the shoe/sandal dilemma. Since you have to walk thru the sand to get to the gazebo; I would think you would probably want to wear something on your feet, since the sand can get pretty hot. Heck, in the tropics, the cement around the pool, etc. can even burn your feet! We are probably going to hold the reception by the adult pool. Does anyone know if there is room for dancing there? We're not renting a dance floor.

Sing Happy Birthday to a guest at my wedding dinner?
RoryS replied to SunnyBride's topic in Just venting or funnies
We had several birthdays announced at our wedding - not a problem - we even had them announce my aunt & uncle's 25th wedding anniversary! I don't think making an announcement and singing happy birthday will detract from your day at all. -
My niece has found the best way of communicating with Jacy is to put all the questions in an email and list each one as a bullet. She keeps the questions very simple. Jacy has responded to each question in a similar manner, usually within a day or 2. I'm sure some of the DPA brides have already asked and gotten answers to alot of your questions, so ask away...

I thought I'd be happier...
RoryS replied to ~*~Margie~*~'s topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I think once you get it and it's in your size and try it on; you will fall in love. It took me over a year of dating my husband before I fell in love. and that's a lifetime - a dress is maybe a couple wearings. I agree with the size thing. We are not all size zeros but the brides in the magazines and on the websites are, so we get a picture of what we'll look like in a particular dress and when we don't - we think there's something wrong with us. Some of the stores do carry dresses in various sizes, but why is it the one you love isn't in one of them? All brides look beautiful on their wedding day in the eyes of those who love them. Don't stress it. -
