My Bridal Shower Cake
~Debra~ replied to MissLucky7Bride's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
That's an adorable looking cake! -
I'm in Ohio also and if you guys do the marathon during a time when I'm around, I would be interested in going in on this with you guys. I'm in Dayton. I found a person here and I found a couple photographers in Cincinnati also I believe. I think I still have their emails. Kimmy, what were the prices of the photographer in Akron?

(it's also not unheard of for moms, sisters, or other close relatives to offer to chip in, although they certainly have no obligation to.) oh, and alcohol is NOT a must at a bridal shower. you could kill off a lot of the cost by eliminating that or limiting it to just beer/wine. I was going to say I've never been to a shower where they serve alcohol....Sounds like a shower I'd love to get an invitation to though! LOL

I was the MOH in a friend's wedding and I was in charge of throwing the shower. That said, the bridemaids are supposed to help and typically they do as well as split the costs with the MOH. Its not something you should have to do by yourself. My MOH is planning my shower along with my bridesmaids and they are all splitting the costs. I think if you should have a talk with the sister in law if she is willing to chip in with the costs and help. I don't think its right for you to pay for the entire thing by yourself. When I was the MOH in my friend's wedding, she had 3 bridesmaids and only one was willing to help me. The other two were, essentially, useless. In that situation, it was left to me and one bridesmaid to split the costs that four people should have been splitting. I hope that's not your situation.

Trust me girl, I feel you!! I'm so clueless when it comes to weaves. I'm so used to wearing micros but I really don't want to go that route for the wedding. I had someone do a sew in for me...referred by a classmate and that was such a horrible experience.

Ok so I think I've decided to go with a sew in. One of my bridesmaids is getting one and her beautician is supposed to be really good at doing them. She's getting her hair done some time next month so I'll be able to see how good her work is. BillysBride, I may be enlisting your help when I decide what kind of hair I need to purchase but my mission now is finding a style because I have NO idea what kind of style I want. I think I need to just start looking at some styles and narrow it down that way. I know I don't want ANY hair in/on my face. I did want something kind of messy looking but then I got to thinking about the wind and the LAST thing I want is for my hair to get messed up before the day is over. I need to get to searching....and register for a photobucket account.

Cake Baker in Montego Bay or Rose Hall?
~Debra~ replied to Sparkles8300's topic in Jamaica Wedding Vendors
I just emailed Sheila's bakery today. I was given her number and information from the owner of Evita's restaurant. -
I'm getting married at some beach in Ocho Rios. Don't quite know yet. LOL I'm working with a wedding planning company there.
-
Congrats!!! I'm also getting married June 26th! I'm staying at ROR but getting married offsite. Good luck with the remainder of your planning!

Oh a side note: Danyelle...aren't you the sweetest thing! Thank you for commenting on our website. The pictures that I've seen are really cute! I don't want a super sleek look either. I would love something that's in between sleek and messy. If that makes sense. LOL I need to get an account somewhere so I can have a place to keep the hairstyles I love.

You could save the fuss for your wedding day, and then go back to pulling it back the rest of the week...I think it just depends on what your hair does in that climate. What does it normally do during the summer? Lets start there and figure out a style that will let you be sassy but not have to deal with it too much! Alot of times, hair does fine...it may not even be all that humid at the time of your stay! Hey, another idea is to take a look at the weather averages for the town you'll be staying in. I know my sister came back from Isla, where I'm having my ceremony, a few months ago and said the humidity wasn't bad at all! Normally, my hair does good in the summer. I have fine hair, not thick....when relaxed. The thing is since I've been natural I haven't really wore MY hair. Maybe for a month a couple months back but for the most part I've been wearing micros. I really didn't want to wear micros for the wedding. I would love it if I could have a style where none of my hair is being shown. That's why I was leaning towards a lace front. The invisible braids seem to be a perfect solution really but from what it sounds like my hair is too long for the invisible braids 'look' to work.

I was the MOH in my friend's wedding and I got a nice hard written note and I will be doing the same for my girls when they throw my shower. I'm going to write them each a nice note saying how much I appreciate and love them. That's it.

Just recevied our 1st Wedding gift
~Debra~ replied to DarcyJAde's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Congrats! Its a pretty great feeling right? We just got our first gift about a week ago. -
I completely agree with you BillysBride.....my personal goal is the same as yours. I want to have a great hairdo on my wedding day and simply look cute the rest of the day. And don't get me wrong, I don't have naturally ANYTHING hair. LOL I just meant I stopped putting perms in my hair about a year and a half ago so if I can avoid having to do too much maintenance to my hair during my wedding week I will. I guess what I want isn't possible. I don't want to have to do anything at all all week. LOL gosh, who knew that my hair would be one of the biggest obstacles.

I don't think its wrong at all. My FI's best friend, who is also his best man in our wedding just got married in January and him and his wife are using our wedding in Jamaica as their honeymoon. They will be there the exact same days as us. I don't mind at all.

I wear my hair natural so I'm opposed to any style where I'd have to touch up my hair every couple days. I want something that I can just slightly curl or put into a ponytail and it will look cute. Maybe I'll revisit the invisible braids idea again. I liked the pics posted on the previous page. Those were cute

So, is anyone doing a lace front wig? I just got a quote for the hair alone from a salon here and she charges 675 just for the hair and then 85 I believe to put it in. I was gonna do it but now I'm having such a hard time justifying it. I looked online for lace front wigs and I saw some that range between 300-450 which is more doable but I don't know what the heck I'm supposed to be looking for in a wig. I don't want to spend all that money and then not have the right one and I want one that's of good quality. Any suggestions for getting a lace front wig cheaper without completely wasting my money buying garbage? And where is everyone looking for pics of hairstyles? I haven't begun but I need to. The stylist is asking me what idea I have for my hair and I have none!

Upgrade the wedding band later??
~Debra~ replied to mxbride789's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
We will actually be upgrading my E-ring in five years. He hates my FI and I actually love it. The one the he wanted me to have was out of stock when he went back to buy it and he didn't have time to wait because he was going to propose that weekend. So, we're upgrading to the ring he likes or one close to it if that style isnt available in five years and upgrading the carat size. -
We aren't sending out invitations. We sent out STDs probably a year in advance with our website on it so everyone had all the info they needed to book. We had everyone RSVP on our website and also put on there that we weren't sending out formal invitations. Everyone's booked and RSVP'd so we are set. We are sending out invitations to our AHR in September though.
-
Are you speaking of the AHR or the reception in St. Thomas?? We are having a AHR but its more like a party so we aren't having a head table. Only about 30 people are traveling to Jamaica with us so we opted to do a sweetheart table instead of a head table. Typically the wedding party sits at the head table with you but I just went to a wedding where the bride and groom has their wedding party at the head table with them as well as their parents. I think if you want to have your parents sitting up there with you, that's fine.
