  1. I think a year is plenty of time to plan. We got engaged in August 2007 so we had almost 2 years to plan. Not that I actually spent 2 years planning. Having 6 months to not do wedding stuff was great. I think you'll be fine with a year though.
  2. I'm definitely feeling overwhelmed. I have WAYYY to much stuff going on. Luckily I'm almost done buying things. I'm trying to find a cheap resource to print my menus but I don't want them printed on flimsy paper. I still need to order my sand ceremony vases and get the girls' shoes but that's it. Everything is done. My goal is to have everything done by June 1st so that I can spend the month just chillin.
  3. This is something I need help with. My mom bought my dress and is throwing our AHR for us so we're trying to think of something really nice to get her. His mom is not even going so I guess we don't have to worry about her. I was thinking about some diamond earrings. We will see what my funds are looking like next month. She deserves it though.
  4. I am in this exact situation. My MOH just got married in Jan and had informed me that her and her husband were trying to get pregnant. Now me and my MOH have been best friends since we were 9 so I spoke up and asked her to wait. It was selfish but she understood why I was asking. Now, I'll say although I asked, her ass ended up pregnant anyway. (I'm a little bitter if you can't tell LOL) She is now 2 months pregnant BUT she is surprisingly still very involved in everything. I just had my shower this past saturday and she decorated it all by herself. She is currenntly planning my bachelorette party with my bridesmaids and she's planning on attending. Its definitely a bummer knowing that she is limited in the sense that she can't drink with us and she's more tired more often now but I'm grateful that she's still attending. All this said, I'll say if you feel comfortable enough to ask her to hold off on getting pregnant I say go ahead. Hopefully she will understand that its because you really just want her to be involved in your wedding activities. Is it selfish? A little but hopefully she won't be offended by it like my MOH. Especially since you're asking because you NEED to know to determine who your bridesmaids will be. You could always approach it that way so you don't come off as selfish, KWIM? Good luck.
  5. Sheryl, when I PM'd you back I didn't include any info about TWJ. Sorry but I did want to mention that when I got the breakdown from TWJ for each thing, I found some stuff to be more expensive then going off on my own and finding vendors for the specific things that I wanted. For example, I want an all Rose bouquet and TWJ quoted me 90.00 and Floral Fantasies quoted me 65.00. Also, the transportation that TWJ charges is 15/pp while Lees' Tours charges 7.00. So I would definitely seek out other vendors in order to get the best price. Also since I'm using Evitas for my reception, the owner Eva has been very helpful in finding vendors. She found my vendors for my cake as well as the DJ. The only thing I'm really using TWJ for is the actual wedding ceremony because the look of the ceremony is very important to me and for the price I feel like I'm getting a deal. They are also doing my wedding video.
  6. Oh yeah I completely agree with you Maureen! 5,000 for JUST the ceremony is EXTREMELY alot. I'm paying less than that for both the ceremony and reception.
  7. I am using both Tropical Weddings Jamaica and Evitas. I'm using TWJ for my ceremony and Evitas for my reception. I'm not sure what you mean by 'too much' I originally got a quote from Almarie for the ceremony and reception and while it included alot, it was more than I wanted to pay. So, I kind of tailored a package to fit what I wanted. Then I found Evitas and her prices are great also. I worked with Eva to customize a menu and the price I'm paying is less than I would be paying if I was getting married at home. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them if I can.
  8. My dress isn't fitted but I LOVE seamless panties: thong or otherwise. I definitely suggest that if you want something that's not going to show a panty line.

    Hello

Congrats!! and Happy Planning from one Jamaica bride to another!
  10. Oh I like that Monique! Ok....so where's are the pics of the stripper?!?!
  11. I was going to do the booklet for the guests but decided against it. I just don't want the hassle. I'm getting lazy. I will send a letter out a couple weeks before. It will be a combination of a welcome letter/intinerary. I am doing programs. Just because they are cheap and I think the program fan idea is really cute LOL
  12. I second that both Vendors are great: Tropical Weddings Jamaica and Evitas. I have to say that choosing these two vendors was probably two of the best decisions I made in this whole process. Almarie and Eva are both SO quick at responding. They both seem to go above and beyond to help. I have to agree with Maureen, if you go with Evitas, you don't need a WC because Eva does it all! She found me a cake WITHIN my price range because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a cake. She found me a DJ to play for FOUR hours for 100.00 and she worked with me to customize a menu that didn't break my bank. Sorry to go on and on but these two ladies really are great. Anyone who chooses them will not regret it.
  13. I want the travel candles!!! Is it 7 for all of them?? I'm going to PM you.
  14. I'm not getting married at ROR but I also scanned and emailed my birth certificate to my wedding coordinator. Email Chandlyn and ask if this would be ok. I think that would be the most convenient and cheapest way.
  15. I was going to say the same thing that Maureen said. I was thinking when they send me my marriage license from Jamaica....isn't that it? I won't need to go to any office here and file right? I mean I know I need it to change all my documents over but isn't that where it ends? Please correct me if I'm wrong. BTW, Maureen I'm going to PM you. I have some questions about Evitas.

Simple but elegant.
  17. I was all set to purchase the engraved champagne glasses with our names and a cake cutting knife set but then I thought, "why?" Maybe if I was getting married at home I would probably purchase then but its just really just not that serious to me.
  18. I would also get a a wedding gift in addition to the shower gift.

  20. I know exactly how you feel! I had my heart SET on Hawaii. That was the only place I wanted to get married but it would've been entirely too expensive for our guests and I didn't want to get married in Mexico. I looked at The Dominican Republic and then I finally decided on Jamaica. It can definitely take a while. Good luck with your search!
  21. We are basically having a party. We're going to have a buffet, cake, bar, and a DJ so we got ours for 4 hours, from 6-10. The banquet hall we are having it at gives us one hour for free prior to the start of our event for our vendors to set up but that doesn't include the time we need to decorate so we will be paying for an extra hour for that.
