I guess they offered it b/c nothing else was available for you? Did you bring your own centerpieces? You are going to LOVE her!!!! Just wait till you see your photographs... your going to melt!!! You just have to wait a long time for them... about 6 weeks, but SO worth it!!! I am not sure if they do weddings in the French Restaurant regularly, but Gabriela made an exception for us since they overbooked our original location of the poolside. What had happened was that they were also having a 300 person doctors convention on the beach... the same time and day of my reception.... so needless to say, since I booked this wedding a year and half in advance... I was pissed!... Way pissed... Monday the 13th of July was NOT a good day... Gabriela, got really nervous and made the French Restaurant available for the reception.... otherwise she would have been dealing with 2 crazy people... me and my mom.... BUT on a good note... everything worked out for the best.... as you can see in the pictures!!! My Centerpieces, I actually found off of Elizabeth Medina's Blog months back from another bride... I did not bring them... I emailed the EM picture to Gabriela, and she, like the US, deals with vendors outside of the resort and they can pretty much do anything for you!!! I told her I didnt want flowers... Just very chic sticks, with tons of hanging candles.. and I believe each centerpiece cost $45 USD, which if you are from the Tri-State area... that is so not expensive!!! Also, my cake, which not that large and my bouquet... all Hot Pink tight roses, all from Pictures I got off of Elizabeth's webpage months back... sent them all the pictures and Gabriela had everything made for me... Make sure to send her tons of pictures, otherwise you dont know if "your vision.. is also their vision", you know what I mean?

We had the buffet of "Tacos and Tequila"... it was honestly the most "classy" buffet I have ever seen!!! Just look at the pictures... http://www.elizabethmedinaphotography.com/ED09/ We hired the Marriacchi band for 2 hours... So much fun!! We also had our own private bar, and lounge set up on the beach!!! I loved every second of it!! I knew at that point that my wedding was going to be in the French Restaurant.. So I wanted to have the rehearsal dinner to be totally different. It was very casual... I dont even think I wore shoes! So the pictures in the slide show... the very first ones of Doug and I in the "garden" that was taken before we got to the beach... We had Elizabeth for 3 days... Rehearsal Dinner, the actual wedding day and then towards the end of the slide show you will see our "Trash the Dress" session, which if you can... I would do!!! So worth the extra money!

(in case you read this Erica, everything was beautiful and Elizabeth went above and beyond, as she always does!)...congrats to you and Doug again! I know we all want an outdoor reception...but the French restaurant looks so elegant! For the ladies who are getting married in the summer months...you'll be in air conditioning if unexpected circumstances come up and you're put indoors (on the bright side!)...and just like Erica had said in an earlier post, don't stress...it all comes together in the end! I mean, c'mon, look at those pics! Thank you so much Sandra!!! The French Restaurant was out of control gorgeous... I keep on staring at them in awe! I mean you have this image of what your wedding is going to look like.. and these pictures blew it totally out of the water! My dress was probably my favorite part! It was a Pnina Tornai from Kleinfelds in Manhattan... I just wish I could wear it again! If you have any questions... Just ask -Erica "Dont Stress", it is such wasted energy... I stressed for months... for nothing! Everything was BEYOND PERFECT!!!!
  4. Thank you so much! My reception was actually in the French Restaurant that they have on site at the Palace.
  5. Sandra... Thank you for posting such kind words!!! I finally received my pictures yesterday... after waiting since July 18th! But it was totally worth the wait I would recommend Elizabeth 10 times over again... She is totally amazing and I am still tearing up watching my video!
  6. Hello Ladies... I finally received my slide show and gallery on the web from Elizabeth Medina!!! I promised I would share with everyone.... Here is the link to the slide show, there is music, so you need to have your sound on! http://www.elizabethmedinaphotography.com/ED09/ and the link to all my pictures is this link... the password is douganderica Elizabeth Medina Photography Enjoy Erica
  7. Ok to answer I hope all your questions... Here it goes eblum999 (Erica)....I'm so happy to hear you had such a good experience! What spot did you choose for your reception (beach or indoors)? Did you post any pictures?! Thanks for sharing with us! I originally was suppose to have my wedding outside by the pools, but Gabriela had also (without my knowledge... and only found out when I got to the Barcelo) that there was going to be a convention of 300 Doctors on the beach... right in front of where my reception was suppose to be... they were also having their own live band... I was only having 45 people... So you can image what that would be like... I was freaking out. It was not a good day. After about 3 hours of deep thought and crying. Gabriela offered the French Restaurant to us for the reception. The whole room is black and white... with White linens on the windows and they light them up to give it such a dramatic feel. There is a bar in there... so we had an open bar all night. Ironically enough it was closed on Saturdays (which for the most gorgeous restaurant they have.. It was strange to me that it was closed on such a night... but it worked out for me!) I can not even begin to explain what the reception looked like...It was the most classy, elegant and timeless wedding I have ever been to.... I do not have any pictures... I am still waiting for Elizabeth Medina to post them to her website... but as soon as she does... will post them on here! Hello eblum999 I'm getting married at the Barcelo Colonial and I wondered what was the choice for the wedding ceremony. Do we have access to the gazebo in the section of the palace?. What is the chapel of barcelo Colonial? Do you have a photo. Regarding the reception, what are my options and what costs are. Thank you so much I had my wedding ceremony at the Colonial Chapel... that was MY only choice, since it was important to be to have a Catholic Ceremony. I am sure though that you can have your ceremony any place you like on the grounds.... But I could be wrong. I am not sure if you have access to the Gazebo if you are staying at the Colonial. We had access to the Colonial Chapel, because we were staying at the Palace... which means you have access to any spot on the Barcelo grounds. As far as the costs and options for receptions I would contact Gabriela (she is the boss) Here is her email... She takes SUCH a long time to respond!!! Gabriela Barbabosa, [email protected] Hi Erica I will have my wedding in the chapel as well and party at the beech next to colonial hotel. Can you send me some of your pictures I can’t wait to see how they organized things? Also can you let me know what photographer did you use? Thank you in advance. EEE EEE, I do not have any pictures of of now... As soon as Elizabeth Medina (who I used) posts the pictures....I will post them on here... I have been waiting for 6 weeks now. She emailed me and told me that she will post them sometime next week. Hi Erica -- were the makeup artist and band ones that the Barcelo offered you or did you hire them from outside? If so , was there a vendor fee or did you have to pay for a night's lodging for them? thank you! PS Can't wait to see your Elizabeth Medina pictures, I bet they are awesome The makeup artist I hired from the outside... actually got him from another bride on here... I was VERY nervous... but he can so highly recommended. He did such an amazing job... I am not one for a lot of makeup... and I usually do not like how other people do my makeup, but honestly... Adrian, did they BEST job I have ever had done. I wish he lived in NJ, so I could have him do my makeup again. I had him do a trial the day before and I used that makeup for my rehearsal dinner party.. which I had on the beach... The day of the wedding, I had myself, and 10 other people use him... He was such a nice guy.. and actually made the morning getting ready a lot of fun! I recommend him ten times over!!! Adrian Guerra - email.... [email protected] The Band.... was INCREDIBLE! BEST EVER!!!! I can not say anything bad, they did an awesome job and my guests are all still talking about them.... Awesome!!! I also found them on the message board from a former bride.. and like the makeup artist.. was nervous, but they were incredible... had the party going all night. The only vendor that I paid for a hotel room for was Elizabeth and her daughter. The band, was just there for the day and Adrian the makeup artist only lives 15 from the hotel so he actually took the bus there for the 2 days, and I did not have to pay a day pass for either of them... Adrian knew a back way in and basically “snuck in to the resort” But he had told me earlier, that he wasnt sure how it would work out, and just to have $$ in advance, incase he got charged a day pass.. which I believe was $80-$100... not exactly sure. The Band, I did not paid any day pass for. Erica!! You're back!!! Congratulations on your wedding! I'm sure it was beautiful! I'd love to see your pics! Feel free to email them if you don't know how to post them on there (I don't either, lol). My email is [email protected]. Elizabeth is amazing so I'm sure your pictures will be incredible! I was thinking about having a makeup artist also...was he expensive? Did you have to pay for his pass to be at Barcelo? You'll have to post a review about everything! We'd all love to read it! Congrats again Sandra Sandra, The makeup artist as you read above was awesome!!! I would def. use him.... and if anyone does, Please tell him Erica recommended him!!! I promised him I would. His prices.... I was quote his email.... But like everything he could have changed them... But I would pay double for him again if I had to! Here is the email he sent me.... Bride:$180 Anyone Else: $60.00 Travel: $40 I use a combination of Classic makeup and an Airbrush machine. The makeup def last about 20 hours, through sweat and humidity and so forth, the makeup does NOT come off on clothes, youre good to go.. The price also includes individual eyelashes( the individuals give a more natural look) Cleaning up of the brows, and If I need to spray anything like chest, legs, arms, thats included as well. Also, the travel fee goes away if you have at least 3 other girls besides yourself getting their makeup done! I paid $60 for my trial the day before. Totally worth EVERY PENNY!!!! i Erica, Can you please let us know how you used an outside photographer? Was the band, hair dresser etc...from outside the resort? I was told that we have to use photographer at the Barcelo unless we pay to have them stay overnight.....not sure how much that would cost. Sabrina Sabrina, I booked my wedding a year and a half ago, so there was no rule on outside photographers. Elizabeth Medina, stayed 2 nights with us...I hired her for the Rehearsal Dinner, the wedding and the morning after the wedding for a Trash the Dress Session... So I had to get her a hotel room for 2 nights... No one said anything about her being there.... and Gabriela knew about her... I guess, if they are a guest, they can not restrict them taking pictures! I WOULD NOT use the photographer from the hotel.... I heard they were not that good... and to me, the pictures were the MOST important. Band, I did not pay an additional prices then their fee... and again Gabriela, knew all about them.... Kiko and Carlos Band... Francisco Flores RamÃ*rez [email protected] OK... If anyone has any other questions... please just ask! I stressed for a year and a half over this wedding and I can not stress enough how wonderful everything was! :) I would do it again in a heartbeat!!! As soon as Elizabeth Medina posts my pictures...I will post them on here!! -Erica
  8. Hey Girls! I had my reception at the French Restaurant at the Palace. I do not think this is a customary thing to have the reception in a restaurant.. it was suppose to be outside by the pools but they overbooked my reception spot and had a make an extensive exception for us... but everything worked out for the best. I had the Ocean Scents package and added on an hour to the reception (only 3 hours are included in the price of the package). I believe it was an extra $9 per head. I had a total of 45 people. They did such an incredible job... I would do it again in a second! My photographer that I used was Elizabeth Medina.... I loved her!!! She has yet to post my pictures on the web.. but as soon as she does I will post them on here! Any day now! Also I used the Kiko and Carlos band.... My guests were raving about them! They were honestly the best live band ever! Totally recommend them ten times over! They made the party! I used a makeup artist... He was so awesome.... Came and did my makeup trial for my rehearsal dinner and did myself, mom and whole bridal party the day of the wedding... and everyone loved him! He is so nice and I would again recommend him to anyone! I wish he lived in Jersey... I would totally use him again... He does not have a webpage... but here is his email... Tell him Erica recommended ya if you decide to you him! Adrian Guerra - email.... [email protected] PS Does anyone know how to post just one or 2 pics on his site? I have a couple that people took.. but I am clueless on how to post them! Thanks -Erica
  9. Hey Future Brides! I just got married at the Palace on July 18th! I could not have asked for a nicer wedding!!! They do such a nice job and do anything to make you happy. As far as the 3 hour reception. Yes it is true. That is all that is included in the price of the wedding package. If you would like to extend it... which I did... it is an additional $9/10 USD per hour. I got married at the Colonial Chapel at 4:30... Had cocktail hour at 6:30pm till 8pm and then the reception started at 8pm and went till midnight. If you have any questions just ask! -Erica

Any info you have will help in my decision making. I just want to pick a place! The Barcelo does sound very nice Hello there. I have some answers to your questions.... 1. I noticed in the pics that the beaches don't have palapas or umbrellas. Is there enough shade from the palm trees. I just want my guests to have a nice time and be able to enjoy themselves at the beach without getting too unbelievable hot. The beach does have much shade... but I was there last April... could have more shade now. 2. I know the rooms at the Palace are nice. I assume some of my guests will stay at the other Barcelo resorts. Does anyone know if these are nice? The rooms are in one word GORGEOUS. If you give me your email... I will send you pictures I have done my share of traveling and they are the nicest rooms I have ever experienced. The rooms in the other resorts (Caribe, Tropical ect... arent as nice. 3. When you set a date with the WC, do you get to pick a time, and the ceremony/reception location? I'm flexible on my dates and would like to pick a date based off of what is available for that date. How does that work? I set my date and time as year and a half ago (July 18th 2009 at 4:30 in the Colonial Church) If it at all possible, i would def. recommend going on a site visit.. helps so much when planning a wedding over the interent, so you know what they are talking about. I just told them what time I wanted and they said ok! I did not think it was that hard... but I am not sure how far in advance they need... like I said I booked a year and a half in advance. 4. Lastly, I'm reading mixed messages about the photographer. Is it, or is it not, ok to bring your own photographer? Can someone confirm? Ok this was the hardest part for me as well, b-c I kept on getting wrong informtation. I hired Elizabeth Medina (Elizabeth Medina Photography, Mexico Destination Wedding Photographer, Wedding Photojournalism throughout the Riviera Maya, Yucatan and Mexico) and she staying as a guest of the hotel... so there is no problem. If they photographer is only coming for the day to shoot the wedding... then you have to purchase a "Day Pass" for them, which I believe is any where from $80-$100 per day. I am having her for 3 days, so she is just staying at the hotel (i'm footing the bill) for 2 night, which they dont care if she takes pictures, since she is considered a "guest" and they can not say anything. If you have anymore questions, just ask! -Erica
  11. Sandra.... I live in Marlboro with my parents as of now... but my fiance and I also bought in Jackson! We bought a new construction townhouse... Cooks Bridge... Too funny and such a small world. I went to the Barcelo on a whim. I went to a travel convention in NYC about 2 years ago now and they recommened the Barcelo. I booked a tip there.. and met with the WC (Gabriela) and fell in love... it is soooo gorgeous and EVERYONE I talk to says nothing but good things. I have been in contact with Gabriela pretty much the whole time, but hae not heard from her in a LONG time now... and 3 weeks away.. I am starting to get nervous.. but everyone who has gotten married there and has dealt with her says not to worry that she is so busy! They do like 60 wedding a month there! I have designed (I am a graphic designer) Thank you cards/booklets to go with the oot bags that I am giving all my guests (35 people) and I went to the christmas tree store in freehold and bought all odds and ends (q-tips, sunscreen, candy, magazines, soaps, etc... ) and am filling the bags (here is the link to the bags I bought) Palm Leaf Shoulder Bag : Unique Wedding Favors - Wedding Reception Favors - Bridal Shower Favors and I also bought the fans for the ceremony and I am attaching a pink and orange(my colors) ribbon (from michaels) to the fans and they will hold my ceremony programs. I made the programs 5 inches square sit directly ontop on the fan. I also bought bubbles from the knot.com for after the ceremony. As for my bridesmaids ( I have 6 ) I bought them all monogramed canvas beach bags (also from the knot.com... but wait till they have their huge sale, I only paid like $12 a bag)... and I am stuffing the bags with pj's, flip flops ( all from old navy), white plush monogramed robes that I bought from Target.com... all on clearance for $10... word to the wise... I always watch my sales and always get the best possible price... therefore you get more for your money. I also bought all the bridesmaids designer sunglasses from lord and taylor (used a friends and family coupon, so everything was 25% off)... i have everything packed away in one suitcase and then when i get to the resort putting them all together. My fiance bought all his groomsmen their outfit (we went to the clothing center in east brunwick... if you need outfits.. ask for Steve he is the owner and he will bascially help you with everything!) and he also bought them all sunglasses. I went to Castle Courture for the bridesmaids dresses... they are very helpful and very nice in there. As far as everything for the wedding...I am planning most of the wedding once I get down there, even though I know mostly what I want. Photographer - I am using Elizabeth Medina... Elizabeth Medina Photography, Mexico Destination Wedding Photographer, Wedding Photojournalism throughout the Riviera Maya, Yucatan and Mexico Live Band - Kiko and Carlos Band I hope this all helps. If you have any questions.. just ask -Erica
  12. I am getting Married on the 18th also!!! I honestly can not believe it is less than a month away.... starting to get nervous
  13. Sandra! I am in Marlboro NJ... This weather is so awful... I actually feel bad for Brides getting married around here... since June is like the biggest month to get married! Yes 3 weeks away... so excited... but also so nervous b-c I havent heard from Gabriela in a LONG time... but I did do a site visit last April and I met with her. I am have a Catholic ceremony at 4:30 at the Chapel.. and still unsure on a lot of details... but from what I hear as well is that you plan the whole wedding once you get down there.... so different from what we are used to in NJ!!! Whenever I tell people, that I am unsure of some details and that I will plan them a week before the wedding... they think I am nuts! Anyways.. I am sure it will be gorgeous and I can not wait to write up a review!!!! Where are you located in NJ
  14. Hello All! I am actually leaving for the Palace in 3 weeks!!! Yikes!! I am having a Catholic ceremny at the Colonial Chapel and have been getting mixed messages on having our "legal ceremony" in NJ, vs. getting legally married in Mexico. From what I understand it is easier to get married in the States, b-c otherwise all the paperwork will be in Spanish. I am just going go to Town Hall and get legally married (but not dressed up so it doesnt feel real) and then be all get to have a Validation of the marriage in Mexico.. which would be the Catholic Ceremony with the Priest from the resort. Now my question is.... has anyone had a Catholic ceremony there and if so, did you have wedding programs I am having a very hard time determining what goes in them and the other of which things happen. Does anyone have an answer And for the lovely bride who had their reception in the hall... was it the Tule' room? How was it? How was the food? what wedding package did you choose? Pictures please!! My email is [email protected] Thanks so much! -Erica NJ

  18. All I have to say is DestinationWeddings.com - Destination Weddings and Honeymoons, destination wedding planners, wedding destinations, wedding travel, wedding vacations! Saved my life! You pay $50 through your credit card to be hooked up with a WC. Im telling you that I was a little weary about the whole thing... but it has been nothing but positive! After you book your wedding... The $50 get applied to your wedding. Its a no loose!!!
  19. Has anyone gotten married at the Barcelo Maya Colonial in the Church? I am planning on getting married in the Church because I want a Catholic Ceremony. Does anyone know how that works? I believe it is done in English... not Spanish! Please help!!

That's awesome that we got engaged on the same night... and we are both having a destination wedding! yay! so excited I just got my dress as well! We almost have the same wedding date! I do not think you are behind.. I am waiting to book the air for my wedding... it is not even available yet! Once the air is available I will start planning. I have the date on hold with the resort... Oh and I also booked the Photographer! Her name is Elizabeth Medina.... Her portfolio is amazing!
  21. I am planning my wedding there. I have been working with Gabriela the WC from the Barcelo. She is wonderful... but like you said she takes way too long to write back! I am using a outside photographer for my wedding and Gabriela said it was okay as long as she was a "guest" of the hotel! So I had to get her a room... otherwise I can not see why "outside" vendors would not be allowed. When is your wedding date??
  22. April- I am very sorry to hear about your dad My thoughts and prayers are with you and him. I do hear exactly where your coming from though for the wedding!! I am sort of in the same situation you are in. When my fiance' and I got engaged in December... I we started looking at reception halls in my area (Central New Jersey) for a July 2009 wedding. I am a teacher so I def. wanted a summer wedding. After countless attempts to find "the perfect" place" that came along with a $40,000 plus price tag... I decided that I wanted nothing to do with having a traditional wedding in a reception hall. Not only are they a waste of money in my opinion... they are over in a blink of the eye... and honestly does anyone REALLY enjoy them? I think not! Doug and I went down to the Riviera Maya... after seeing some wedding held down there. We stayed at the brand new Barcelo Maya Palace... and when I tell you that was it!!!!! We booked the wedding for July 18th 2009 and we were set! WELL.... when we got home.. my whole family were all so excited! They are all using it as a much need vacation! On the other side... His family was the complete opposite! Totally against it! No one from his extended family is coming and they want the same.... for us to have the wedding home. Well like you the ones who want it home did not even make a effort to make our engagement party in NJ! After countless sleepless nights... of trying to make everyone else happy... I have stuck with my gut and we are having a destination wedding! We could not be happier! His parents are coming around to the idea.... you know what.... and I know you have heard this a million and one times... ITS YOUR DAY....Thats what I had to get in my head as well. If I had done what they wanted I would have been miserable! I could not be happier that I am doing what we want! And you know what! People will enjoy themselves... and I bet more people will come than you think! If they choose not to come... its on them. Not you. They miss out! That's how I'm looking at it. If Patricks's mom chooses not to enjoy "the ride" and attend the wedding... them you know what. Too Bad. I hope this helps! I am across the country and I am going through the same thing! There are thousands of brides-to-be going through the same. You are not alone! I joined this website 2 days ago and I can not even tell you how much better it has made my planning outlook. The people are so nice and so supportive. Any time you need advice.. just ask I checked out your site! You 2 are a beautiful couple! I have the same site! www.ericaanddoug.weddingwindow.com Good Luck Erica
  23. Thank you so much for all the warm welcomes I have booked my photographer! I have booked Elizabeth Medina! So thrilled after seeing her work and hearing such wonderful things about her and her work on this web page!! [br]Get your countdown ticker at www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com
  24. Philly Bride! I LOVE your pictures!!!! I am so excited that I came across your wedding... it is exactly what I have pictured! i visited the Barcelo Maya Palace in April and met with Gabriela about my wedding.... She showed me the rooms inside, but figured since I was having everyone come from the Tri-State area.. why have the reception inside.... I love how it was by the pool! Did you tell them where to set it up? or did they just set up there? Who married you? Did you have a religious ceremony or just a civil? How was the food?? What did the wedding reception food include? What did you not like?? Anything? Also anything that you wish you did different? Anything that you would recommend doing? How was the heat? I see you got married in May... I'm getting married in July and am terrified of the heat!!! Also.... how do you go upon the flowers?? Does the Barcelo take care of it for you?? I know this is a lot of questions.... but I was just so inspired by your wedding!!! Please share any information you have!!! Greatly appreciated!!! -Erica New Jersey
