Well, the shower was yesterday and it was a big success! The groom was very surprised and thankful. I ended up getting their turkey-roasting pan off their BBB registry. He was thrilled - turns out that he does most of their cooking. Yay! Thanks for the opinions!

Hello ladies! It seems that I am somewhat of a stickler on a certain registry issue that came up today, so I thought I'd ask for your opinions on the matter. Warning - might be long. A few of the women at work and I are planning a power shower for a (guy) co-worker who is getting married on the 18th. We are planning to do the cake and food, music, decorations and gifts. The couple has registered at the standard places - BBB, L&T, C&B, Macys - but the ladies have mentioned several times getting him a gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods. Because he likes golf, and the bride wouldn't let him register at Dicks. They wanted to make sure that he got something for himself. Now, I had a similar issue when FI and I did our registry. We registered at BBB for household stuff and at Target for camping gear. The FILs wanted us to register at Cabelas (hunting & fishing store) so that he could register for a hunting vest. He also wanted to register for an expensive razor at BBB, which I vetoed. He made the argument that we had been registering for stuff that I wanted, and that he would like to have something that he wanted.....to which I responded that the sheets and towels and dishes weren't just for me. If we were playing that game, I wanted to be registered at Sephora. The women today also said that, "the wedding is all for her anyways." I don't think so. It's for both of them, and the family and wedding guests. The responsibility for planning has been left up to her, and all the stress that goes with it. So what if she gets to pick the color of the towels? They're both using them! I would be happy to get something they would both use! Am I alone feeling this way? Did any of you girls let the dudes register for guy-specific stuff? Did you then register for girl-specific stuff? Am I just being too stingy/traditional/rigid?

I think they are the same bags as mine! They're huge - room for plenty of stuff. I just have to practice restraint in trying to fill them!

I feel this way too! It was especially bad after I finished the Harry Potter books - I don't feel like I'm done living in that world yet. I usually end up doing an infinite number of google searches on the book, characters, locations, etc. Kinda pathetic, I know....

If any of you are interested, my other time-sink at work (other than this site, of course) is Jezebel: Celebrity, Sex, Fashion for Women. Without Airbrushing. The perspectives are somewhat biased, but it's all about the ladies!

Hey everyone! A reminder that the VP debate is on tonight in case anyone has been living under a rock the last few weeks. Hahaha. We've got Sarah Palin and Joe Biden up, and they'll be focused largely on foreign policy. Regardless of where you stand, I think it's pretty exciting that so many people are involved in the electoral process! I'm not even bitter about the Grey's Anatomy reschedule. I'm hearing people talk about it everywhere, and proud of my fellow Americans for taking active interest in the future of the country.

Ooh, I've just started to think about flowers and am having the same debate - real vs. artificial. Thanks for posting some ballpark cost estimates for us!

Hey girls! Just wanted to share a cute addition to my OOT bags. I found these for $1 at the JoAnn Fabrics in Indianapolis. The ribbon was also $1 for a spool. Crack open those Red Stripes!

Here is my dress - pics taken the day we found it. The FMIL cried, and I thought I saw my mom tear up. I originally thought I was going to get something beachy, but I'm a bit busty/modest and it turns out that I fell in love with a poufy gown. Oh well - at least it's a lightweight fabric! I'll post more pics after fittings.

After we leave the Blue Cave Castle in Negril, we will head down to the southwest coast of Jamaica to Treasure Beach. We had originally wanted to stay at Jakes, but it was waaay out of our budget. We ended up deciding on Taino Cove, a small, 8-room hotel near Jakes. We'll stay here for 2 nights. It looks gorgeous from the pics, and much more reasonable prices. From what I've read, this is the least touristy part of the island and is mostly undeveloped. It's also where we can find some of the coolest attractions Jamaica has to offer. I am almost more excited for the honeymoon than I am the wedding - we're planning to do some pretty cool stuff! After we leave Negril Escape Resort and Spa, we will be staying at the Blue Cave Castle for four nights. We've reserved the penthouse suite with 3 balconies - lot's of nudie sunbathing! We'll probably also throw a party and invite all the guests who decided to stay longer in Jamaica.
