I just spent the day at the Majestic shooting a wedding. The bride and groom booked the terrace area of the steakhouse restaurant. It was a private dinner, cost roughly $300 more, was private, they played their own music, lasted until 11 and was less then a 1 minute walk away from the full bar. It is a great option. The only foreseeable problem is weather. One rain, two in the winter it might be too windy since it is right next to the beach and you are on the outer side of the wind screens. Once I get the photos done I will post them.

There are two big differences between the Colonial and the Majestic. One is that the rooms are more open concept, without the jacuzzi in the middle. Also the restaurant decor is nicer at the Elegance. Also, if you are looking for a service where you get a butler, and snacks all day, and extra drinks, and more private swimming pools then the Elegance Club is for you.

Jessica, Sunwing does sometimes but not very often. I would suggest dealing with a TA for those people, my TA has found me some great deals for separate hotel/flight. There is usually an hour stop in the US somewhere but there are deals out there. If your guests do go this way there are a couple extra costs - the $10USD entry fee, and the transportation from airport to the resort ($45USD each way by taxi)

I wanted to start by saying I have no affiliation with this company - I just thought it was a great alternative reception option. La Barcaza Restaurante www.weddibgboatpuntacana.com [email protected] Last month I was with a wedding group at the Melia that had their reception on here and everyone had a great time. They take you on a small transport boat for 2 minutes to the larger boat. Where there is an open bar, a great table setup. You have a fantastic dinner (which you order beforehand) and then the table is cleared away and you can dance and they stop at one point and you can go swimming. I was told that if the boat doesn't go to your resort that they will arrange transportation for you. The staff is super friendly, especially the boat manager we had. He was completely bilingual and a really nice guy. If you are looking for something different I would definitely check this out. My little heart is set on this resort and due to work schedules, etc, this is when we would like to get married. I can only imagine the requests, emails and phone calls the WC's get each day. That job must be so stressful! The stress would only be multiplied because of the internet speed there! I am sure there is still availability for April/May 2010. It's hard to wait but remember even if you did have the date, booking flights and everything else still isn't 100% available yet either.

They have a bunch of other colours, I know I have seen blue, red and purple and probably more that I can't remember. I'm not sure if she gets that info from you before you get there or during your meeting while there. Make sure to make a note to remind her about the colour you want during the meeting.

I will definitely take some shots of what the area looks like, only problem is it probably won't be set up for dinner and dancing when I am there. What I am guessing is it will be the same table setup as the steakhouse and then an open area for dancing. I'll take some photos though and we can use our imaginations haha.

Did u have to pay for that and was it at the parrot bar? I'm sorry to seem so nosey but i'm a little woriied cause Ive been emailing Maritee and all she said was that the wedding date is confirmed and did not give me any other info. If you would like a private party after dinner then it is an extra cost. There are a few options available beach party set up parrot bar swim up bar presidential suite and the new one mentioned a page or two back in this thread which is the terrace/outer edge of the restaurant. Each have different costs per hour, and an open bar (which costs extra) may be your only option for drinks. For example, in my opinion the closest bars to the parrot bar, swim up bar, and of course the pres suite are too far to walk for drinks.

I understand exactly what you mean now, I will ask when I am there on the 9th. I actually have never heard of this being an option, but it must be something they only offer in the summer months because the wind would probably make it impossible during the winter months. There are a couple things to consider with doing this, which I will ask for you. 1. Since you aren't getting the open bar, how late will they let you be there? 2. Do you care if the guests that are on the inside don't have the table set up like a wedding? If you don't mind then basically it would just be set up for a large reservation at the steakhouse. 3. The price breakdown of doing this. For example - are they charging you so much per dinner and then a rental fee for the overall space? I am actually quite surprised that they let you use this space for dancing, cake cutting and a general party. Its surprising because it is so close to a bar. So I am going to ask for other couples if it would be possible to have the free dinner on the inside of the restaurant and then rent the private area for a couple hours for dancing and cake cutting. That way you can have an area for private dancing which is right next to a free bar.

I think twitter is a fantastic service, I have been using it for a while. I think its funny to find out what some celebrities are thinking about. For example @rainnwilson (Dwight from the office). His updates are hilarious. There are also some great resources for brides. People post fantastic articles from everything from money saving tips, to fashion advice.

Booking a one-way ticket? WHY NOT??!! Help?

It is a tough situation and I just wanted to add in an opinion here for any Canadians reading this thread and might have to go through the same thing. I was actually able to do this two months ago with Air Transat. Because of another last minute wedding I had to leave a day later and Transat had no flights out the day I wanted. So I told the airline I would not be on the first flight but that I still wanted the way back. So I took an American Airlines flight to Mexico and then took my originally booked Transat flight back to Montreal. Just wanted to give a heads up to some Canadians and say that it was possible for me. -
Congrats. Panama sounds amazing. This is a great forum that will definitely help you with your planning.

I don't want to slow down this thread with a bunch of photos (snapshots) so I will just post links to them: This is the private area in the elegance steakhouse: For this setup, they had 4 tables of 8-10 in the corners of the room and then the middle was the dancefloor: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...idlina1422.jpg One of the tables: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...idlina1427.jpg Quick shot of the Parrot Bar set-up at the Elegance: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...reception-1009 Buffet at the Parrot Bar at the Colonial: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...eption-103.jpg Table setup at the Steakhouse at the Colonial: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...rjulie0389.jpg Layout of Presidential Suite at the Colonial: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...rjulie0400.jpg Open Bar setup at the Presidential Suite: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...rjulie0402.jpg Another table setup at the Steakhouse at the Colonial: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...ystalallen.jpg Plate setup at the table above: http://s93382237.onlinehome.us/majes...reception-1009

At the Elegance I have seen three different setups for private dinners. 1. Parrot Bar. This is a buffet style dinner. 2. Wet Bar. Same as Parrot Bar but accommodates more people 3. Steak House. There is a separate room in the steak house where you can be on your own. This is for bigger groups as well. The normal steak house dinner for about 30 is actually pretty private. You are separated by a big wall and it feels very intimate. I'll start looking through my files now to find some photos of each.
