  1. Like many others, we started off with the mindset that we were going to pay for the whole thing ourselves and to our wonderful surprise my parents volunteered to pay for our photographer/videographer and for a great portion of our at home reception. FI's parents have volunteered to pay for the rental of the disco for the reception and for another great portion of the at home reception. We didn't think we'd get any help but it falling into place very nicely!
  2. Kristam- Have you made any travel arrangments with a travel agent? We found this was really helpful for getting people to commit. We spoke with a couple travel agents and told them our travel dates and where we were going and the one who found us the best deal was the winner. We asked her to give us a quote for a group rate (10 ppl or more). After we had our quote we sent out an email saying that "we found this great deal and if you are interested the deposits are due on this date, etc etc" This way we kind of did the looking around for them and we got a lot of happy responses with that. I think a lot of people don't know where to start! Plus once they have made their deposits they are more inclined to start saving! I hope this helps!
  3. We're going with Alberto! We couldn't afford over the top prices and he has been really good to communicate with. He is doing our video as well

  5. What do you think?? When i pulled it off the rack I was like "no, i don't think so but I'll try it on anyways" and then once it was on there was no turning back! I love it and it looks gorgeous! When it comes in I'll take pics of myself in it but I couldn't contain my excitement lol! Great price too! $375
  6. oh wow, thanks Erin! I didn't know how common it was...thanks for responding it makes me feel better
  7. That's what we're doing too!! My daughter is our flower girl and a friend of mine makes tutus in any colour size, level of fluffiness you want! lol. If anyone wants her contact info please message me, she's affordable too! And I agree, I think a leotard would look amazing
  8. A friend of mine wore the Galina for her wedding in Sept and it was GORGEOUS!! Very light weight and stunning! I would go with that one but either one you choose will be beautiful
  9. Hi! Originally, we weren't going to have a trash the dress photog. session for two reasons...1) because I'll be wearing my dress again at a home reception and 2) because we couldn't afford the photographer to come back the next day Well, a good friend of mine has decided to come to our wedding and she does photography as a hobby and has asked us if she could do a TTD session for her portfolio. Of course, we're ecstatic and want to do it but I don't want to wreck my dress lol. What if I got a similar looking dress for cheap to wear in the TTD pics? Has anyone ever heard of this before? We love the look of the water TTD pics and think it would be fun but there's this dilemma!! What do you think?
  10. We are going to send ours out very soon. We are getting married Sept 25 2009 and our trip is booked and we have 23 guests who have paid their deposits. We know that quite a few others will also be attending and booking on their own later and we know of some who are on the fence. We want to send out STDs to everyone who has expressed interest in attending so they can start planning and saving. I think the rules change a little for destination weddings and it's smart to send them out as early as possible.
  11. Hi Everyone! I've emailed Erika about pics of the Disco (we are considering renting it out for a few hours following the reception dinner) and she said that she would take pics as soon as she got the chance and email them to me. Well, it's been a few weeks and I've already sent her a couple reminders about it so I don't want to remind her again lol. I know she will but I'm too damn impatient! Does anyone here have any pictures of it? I would really appreciate it! Thank you!
  12. I said this before but I'll say it again...BEAUTIFUL pics Kelly! And thanks for the review- I'm sure you'll be hearing from me through the next year!
  13. i would think it's fine too since she is a paying guest. they can not tell your friend that she is not allowed to take pictures, know what I mean? She's staying there and she is your friend. Wow, your wedding day is so soon! Can't wait to see your pics when you come back!
  14. I am getting married at the Riu Santa Fe in Cabo San Lucas and I have been told that bringing my own photographer will be no problem at all! Strange that resorts so close would have such different rules...
  15. By the way Steph, we are in London, Ontario and my fiance is from Mississauga!
  16. Steph- you do not need to put a down payment to secure your date! And if you worked directly with Paola and not just on the website then you would not need a confirmation code. The confirmation code would go directly to her anyways once you put it into the website so I think she must have just skipped that step for you and you are good to go! We did however, need to provide a credit card number in case we decided to cancel our date. If we cancelled then we would need to pay a cancellation fee and that's why they keep our cc number on file. Did they ask for your cc number? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Check back in a few months to confirm the date and time and location but you are in good hands!
  17. Yay!!! Great review Kelly!! And I was finally able to see the pictures! (I had to create a dang myspace account but it was well worth it). Do you think you will still frequent this board? If not, can you please give me your email addy in case I have any questions in the future! (I still have over 10 months to go!) Congratulations and I'm so glad you had an amazing time
