  1. I'm going to assume you are younger than 60. Why would all the attention go to her when they can look at a hot chick in her wedding dress?
  2. I think utilmately you have to think about what's more important to you. Having your parents there or getting married on the beach. Perhaps if you sit down with them and explain how much you can financially contribute to get them there and research if a payment plan is available for the trip you are chosing. Get all the facts for them and hope that they try to make this work.
  3. I hear good things from my TA about the Iberostar Rose Hall..
  4. There's Jamaica, not mentionned in the places your family has been. It was cheaper to go to Jamaica than DR from Ottawa.
  5. My trip is confirmed but my wedding date is not confirmed. I was told that they don't have pricing info yet for the 2010 wedding packages and once that becomes available then they will book my date. I fail to see what the price of the wedding has anything to do with setting the wedding date since I already put a deposit to go to that hotel anyway, not like I can change it without substantial penalty. DUHHHHHHHH
  6. Dinner at one of the restaurants is usually included in the wedding package. I went 2 years ago to a wedding in Punta Cana and they had closed off a covered outside section of the restaurant, we had our own waiters, it was perfect. Couldn't ask for more. And best of all it was included in the package!
  7. First things first, sorry this is happening to you. Secondly, prices are out, and have been for a while. I booked my wedding back in August 2008 and I'm getting married in January 2010. The schedules won't come out until April/May of this year but you can get quotes and the travel agent has to honour that quote when the schedules are actually released. The good thing is that as you said, there is still enough time. Have you looked into Paradisus resorts? Majestic resorts? I've heard good and decent reviews from the Dreams... I went a few years ago to a weeding at the Gran Bahia Principe, nice resort.
  8. Thanks, great info. It is quite true that not much information is available on the Elegance. I have no idea what I'm getting into but I don't sweat the small details at all.
  9. It's totally embarassing what is happening. While I don't necessarily agree with a coalition, it seems like it's the only way that Mr. Prime Minister will do anything about the economy. The "economic update" was just a bunch of crap, nothing to help people losing their jobs, losing their life savings and pensions. Harper campaigned saying nothing was wrong with the economy and that we weren't in a recession and finally when he realized that this was an issue that would decide the election, then he said maybe we were in "tough times". That being said, he's still doing nothing to help Canadians. He's either too arrogant or dumb to realize that he was eleted because people had no one else to vote for (Dion- puhlease, he's a sorry excuse for a leader! and Layton- too socialist for most people).
  10. I've been to the Gran Bahia Principe. The grounds are very nice, the pools are also very nice. What I found about this resort is that the quality was lacking in the rooms. The bathrooms were all marble with a glass "door" to the shower/bath. That's about the only part of the room that's in style. The furniture in the bedrooms is outdated (not what you'd expect from a 5 star). The beach is very nice. The food was great. The entertainment was good too.
  11. That does seem a bit expensive for a Symbolic Ceremony but you must take into consideration of the customization you made to the ceremony. For a legal wedding it's costing us $1,750 USD, not including pictures or flowers but we aren't planning on having any anyway.
  12. Check out Tripadvisor forums for Punta Cana. There are new pictures of the resort (still under construction, set to open in 2 weeks).
  13. It all depends on your taste. I'm really picky so I had a hard time finding something. My TA suggested the Dreams Punta Cana (Definetly can get for under $2k) that is very child friendly.
  14. I was at the B.P. 2 years ago for a wedding, it's a nice hotel.
  15. There's a lot of special people out there. I find it totally wack that our court system doesn't really have checks and balances in cases of restraining orders. Anyone can take one out on anyone, without any questions asked. *hug*
  16. I think this is something a lot of destination brides go through. It is still a stressful event, though I would venture out and say it's less stressful than having a wedding at home. I really hope things work out for you. I have a great TA if you need help, they specialize in destination weddings and go out of their way (and I mean wayyyy out of their way) to help you out. big hug.
  17. I hear you.. My fiance and I chose one of the most expensive resorts in Punta Cana. We knew from the beginning that people would complain and that not everyone could come but we decided as a couple that this was OUR wedding so we were going to pick a hotel WE wanted to go to. Not what we thought our guests would like or be able to afford. I would stick to the plans.
  18. My opinion: definetly out of line. If you quote a price and change your mind later, that's her problem. I would put it nicely that she quoted that and you expect her to honour that. If she did work that you didn't request, you shouldn't have to pay for that. Hope it works out!
  19. I would suggest asking your family doctor about it and possibly seeing a mental health doctor (psychologist). I know of someone who stopped having them after spending a few sessions in therapy.
  20. Life is so fragile, must be a nightmare. Sending positive vibes her way.
  21. $40 USD to translate and $100 USD to legalize (I'm not 100% sure that it needs to be legalized)
  22. If you plan to change your last name it will be required. I was told it was the same process as getting documents legalized (you bring to the Dominican embassy and they translate to english and legalize the document).
