I walked past the rings that were thousands of dollars because they didn't catch my eye, even the ones in the high hundreds didn't do anything for me, but I saw my ring, before I saw the price, and said "That one". And was it "cheap"? Yes. But would I trade it for the world? Not a chance. I had a fuss a while ago because I thought the jewellery store had faded the stones (It's pink topaz, no diamonds, I hate them ), but once that got cleared away and it was sent away, no cost to me, to be fixed and re-plated, I fell in love with it all over again as soon as I got it back. Plus, we didn't have to put ourselves in the hole for it and were able to walk in and pay cash And THAT, is a good feeling!

It's really funny, because I moved from the Port-aux-Basques area to St. John's about five years ago, and the dialects are SO different from one side of the island to the other, it's hilarious! lol Like back home, everyone says "nuttin", but down here it's "nudding" with an emphasis on the "g", I picked up on it one summer while I was in Heart's Delight visiting with family, and when I went home I was made fun of SO much because I said "What are ya at?" and "Nudding" lol And the Mount Pearl/Townie accent, it CRACKS me up! Loves it! -

FI saw this thread and had a few of his own to add, after his fit of laughter remembering them all lol He had a teacher in High School who was from Hermitage (pronounced kinda like Heritage, but like "hermit" at the front, kwim?), and his teacher pronounced it her-mite-age, he also said "Snickerboots" instead of sneakers (we always called them "joggers"), and he said "Chacken burgers" (chicken burgers) and the province of Manitoba instantly became "Man-ma-toba". Instead of getting a cold and being "sick", you were "psych", and whenever anyone asked about his two sons, "Das Jonatin(Johnathan), das Jusin (Justin), and I'm Jizus (Jesus)" Oh, and if anyone is from the capital city, St. John's, they're from "Town" or they're a "Townie". Everyone else is a bay-whop, and where I came from, if you weren't from Port-aux-Basques, the major centre for the SW coast, then you were a "Coaster". And FI and his parents are always saying "bif" and it CRACKS me up! Like "I'm soon gonna bif dis out da window!" -
Just put a piece of material inside the carrier that smells like you or smells like home. It can be a face cloth or a scarf or even a sweater, just something that reminds them of home. They'll probably be pretty ticked at you for the first couple of hours, but they'll get over it pretty quick. Don't worry too much about it, cats are pretty resilient, mine have moved a couple of times and they always come around after they have investigated the new house, and a few treats and belly rubs And NO tranquilizer! Your vet was right I never gave my two anything and they've popped right back after an hour or so to get used to the new place and find their favourite cuddling spot. Don't worry!! The kitties will be fine Have fun with the move!

One thing you never get in Newfoundland, although we're Canadian, is "eh". We just don't say it. Ever. Or Aboot, or hoser lol We're a different group completely. Think of a toned down irish accent, and you've pretty much got a Newfie accent. We say "warsh" too, like "My son, dat was some dry! Giveus (all one word) a drink to warsh dat down luh!" lol And we just talk really fast... Oh, and my favourite, "stepeens" are underwear, because you "step in" them, so they became "stepeens" lol btw, I found the link to the dictionary and found a whole bunch of words I never heard of lol I'm originally from the southwest coast of Newfoundland, and there are different dialects for the different outports here. Well, most Newfoundlanders originated from Ireland or Scotland, so there's guaranteed to be alcohol and LOTS of dancing lol Not necessarily GOOD dancing, but definitely dancing lol -

I'm from Newfoundland, so I have a LOT! There's even a Newfoundland dictionary lol Like a yaffle is an armful, and anything we can't remember the name of becomes a chummyjigger, "How are you doing?" Is never used, instead we say "How's ya gettin' on?", oh, and "Stay where yer to 'til I comes where yer at!". We don't pronounce the letter h at the beginning of words, most words automatically have an added s at the end, and there are no g's at the end of anything lol Just look on google for newfie slang and you'll see what I mean -

E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm one of these girls that HATES diamond solitaires... They're pretty, but they're 'belly button' rings, everyone seems to have one... My friend got engaged shortly before I did and she got a solitaire, and for the life of me I can't remember her ring perfectly, or any of the other solitaires I've seen from girls. They blend together so I have no idea what my friends' rings look like. So I wanted something VERY unique, everyone knows I LOVE pink, and nobody has EVER forgotten what my e-ring looks like That's my reason. PLUS, if I ever lose my ring by some unfortunate event, I'm not out thousands of dollars, just a few hundred Therefore, I can afford a suitable replacement (like now) without too much cursing and swearing lol -
E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Well, after a couple of days, finally some good news I got my e-ring back from the shop, and after a new rhodium coating and a nice buffing and cleaning of all the stones, it looks amazing Still faded, but I think the fading over the past two years may be due to the cleaning solution used at the store. SO, I've decided to keep the ring as my e-ring for now, because after the wedding I'm going to wear a plain band (again, cosmetology doesn't really allow for stones lol) so I won't be wearing the e-ring that much anyway. But before I make that my final decision, I'm going to make sure that this ring won't fade anymore as long as I take good care of it. If it WILL continue to fade despite my tlc, then I WILL be switching the e-ring and maybe buying the e-ring and my wedding band as a set so they're guaranteed to match, but if I'm assured 110% that they won't fade anymore if I take really good care of them (and keep them away from that damn solution lol) then I'm going to keep it But thanks so much for everyone's advice and input, it was greatly appreciated And it helped me come to my final decision. If it does continue to fade, I'm definitely switching the entire ring and doing my research this time -
E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm definitely keeping the ring I have now, I even have the matching necklace from the set, so it's a nice ring/necklace set I can wear when I want to look a little dressy And I really like the idea of giving it to a daughter/daughter-in-law if I have no daughters. It would be an amazing keepsake for them, I know because my mother gave me my grandmother's engagement ring that I still cherish. But I'm definitely going to take my time and look at ring settings, band styles, types of stones, etc. and REALLY pick out something long-lasting this time. I would rather have a gemstone because they make a ring more unique, and if I was to buy a diamond, it would be a Canadian diamond, and they are WICKED expensive lol I'd have to superglue the ring to my hand, or I'd be so paranoid I'd never wear it, and I definitely don't want either of those. Plus, my band is probably going to be fairly simple with no stones as I am planning on going back to school in the very near future to do cosmetology, and stones won't work when cutting and styling hair lol So I'm going to do my research and look at all of my options very closely to make sure where I'm spending my money this time (and the staff at the store lol) -
E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I love my current e-ring, but I haven't chosen a band or anything to match it yet, it's been kinda hard to find a matching band to be honest. Let me post a pic: I'm not completely opposed to choosing a new ring. Since picking this one (which wasn't well researched, and I didn't really even look around, I just went "Ooh! That one!" And didn't look at what else was out there) I found more than I like equally if not more, so I'm not completely opposed to changing it, I just hate the fact that this was the ring FI originally gave me, and I will still keep the ring forever, maybe wear it on my right hand. And again, I'm not 100% sure it's even topaz, it could be anything! I just know it's lab-created -
E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm thinking genuine pink sapphire now, I've been assured that it will NEVER fade by another jeweller, and the new ring I found is a pink sapphire in the centre with pink rhodolite (not sure if that's the proper spelling) around the outside, and have been told it will never fade and will last forever. But cost-wise (which is a big issue right now) getting a whole new ring is cheaper than finding a jeweller who will custom-shape three pink sapphires into heart shapes to find into my band -
E-Ring ruined?!?
FutureMrsLewis replied to FutureMrsLewis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
FI is disappointed in himself because he thinks he should have asked more questions when he returned to the store to purchase the ring originally. We both went to the store to look at rings, he looked at diamonds, I looked for a second and kinda went "Ooh! Look at THAT one!" and ran over to the case with the coloured stones and picked out the prettiest pink ring I saw. It was a cheap ring, but the prices weren't displayed, and I didn't care about price, I wanted something I liked. So FI returned to buy the ring, found out the price, debated because it was so cheap, then said "Well, it's what she wants. At least I know she'll like the ring, now it's just wondering if she'll say yes" So he bought it. Now he doesn't really care what decision I make, he just wants me to be happy and not mad at him for his "dumb" decision (which I've re-assured him time and time again is more MY fault, I wanted the damn thing so bad I almost cried like a kid in a candy store lol) -
When it rains, it pours lol I've had so much go wrong in the past year, and a week ago, I go to the jewellery store where my e-ring was bought and tell them that I wanted it cleaned. It was bought almost two years ago (long engagement, long story lol) and I've only ever cleaned it at the store where it was purchased. The matching necklace was bought a year ago and I always thought that the necklace looked brighter than the ring, as if the ring had faded (It's a pink stone, I'm pretty sure it's topaz). I was told not to be silly and under the lights at the jewellery store, they always matched, but under my lights at home, the necklace does appear darker. Anyway, when I took my ring in for a cleaning, I was told they can't clean it for me. I explained how free cleanings came with the insurance policy I bought at the store, but the girl told me that their cleaning solution would damage the stones. Nice to know after having it cleaned there about once every two months for almost TWO YEARS!! So my fears about the stones fading wasn't entirely crazy. So I ask the girl if the stones would fade over time, to which she replied "Of course, they're lab created, they'll fade just by washing your hands too often" I'm a little anal about having clean hands, so not what I wanted to hear. So now I'm ROTTED about having an e-ring that I know will only continue to fade out as time goes on (It's faded a nice amount in only a year and 8 months) and most importantly, not being TOLD it would fade, even after telling the lady we bought it from that it was to be my e-ring and would be worn forever. So, what do I do now? Do I take out the "fake" stones and buy three genuine stones to replace them? (which I'm told will cost approximately $700), or do I buy a brand new ring with a genuine stone for around $500? I found a new ring at ANOTHER store that I think is gorgeous, I'm understandably pissed with the store where my ring was bought. It's currently in the shop getting a new rhodium coating, which is covered by the insurance policy I bought, but I'm pretty sure they won't cover replacing the stones. So, what do I do? Replace the ring? Replace the stones? or live with the fading? Edit: Here's my current e-ring, slightly faded: And here is the substitute I have in mind:

Dear Off Your Chest thread, Thank you for being here when I need it the most. Love, Me. Dear Lana, Stop being a douchebag. Just because you married your husband to keep up with the Jones', and you don't actually love him, it doesn't mean that I don't miss FI when we're apart. I want to go home, but you won't be taking me. I'm going with Tanya. Go fight with your husband and get divorced already. You made it to your first year anniversary, be proud of that accomplishment and just file for divorce already. Stop making everyone else miserable. Love, The sister who is about to punch you in the face. Dear Tanya, Thank you for being such a great sister. I love you. Love, Your favourite sister. Dear FI, I miss you. I can't wait to see you again. Lana wont' get off her damn ass and bring me back home, so I'll be coming with Tanya. This couch just isn't as comfy as I had hoped. Love, Your lonely FI

I remember one my Dad used to tell me about how his mom used to tie him on to the crib. He's got really big ears, and he used to say that my nan was afraid he would try to fly away, so she would tie him to the crib by his ankle, and he would even haul down his sock and let me see the mark that she left. I was probably 16 or 17 before I realized the "scar" was because the band of his socks was a little too tight! lol

lol Aww! Those are so cute! Marc did say some really sweet stuff when he got down on one knee (after I begged him, oops?) and that's what I remember the most I'm forgetting the (sad) tears and the confusion and I'm going to remember the sweetest part, and that will be my engagement story
