  1. Hi, I have travelled many times to both Playa del Carmen and Cancun and I can tell you from what I have seen, the Riu resort setups typically are like that. I have some photos of us at the beach, taking pictures of other people gawking at someone getting married. I am not sure about the multiple weddings in a day there, but I did see at least one per day and it did not look private. Not sure if this is common but I have had about 4 stays at 4 different Riu resorts. I believe that in Mexico the beaches are public and therefore they cannot prevent people from lounging right by your ceremony. They may have other areas on the resort though for a more private type ceremony. That's all I can offer! Good luck with deciding.
  2. That is pretty much the price range for a nice all inclusive for a week these days. That is just what it costs! So what are you going to do? You cannot control resort prices! Last trip to an all inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen (Riu) we paid $2,000 each including flight from Toronto, for travel in mid Feb. Some guests will think it's too much, some won't...it's your wedding though and you are providing the opportunity for many to also take a vacation! I think the suggestions of letting them book their own travel is good. That way they can do less days or more, depending on their schedules and financial situation.
  3. I absolutely love my foam mattress topper. It is like sleeping on a cloud!!!!
  4. Well good to know i am not alone. I only joined like a week or two ago and my wedding isn't until 2010 and I am way addicted. I am worried because my FI is going away to get an MBA for 2 years...which is why we are waiting for the wedding. I am already pretty much logging in every 30 minutes. I can't even imagine what it will be like when he departs and I have way more free time. I will need some type of forum addict rehab. Why is it so addictive? I wish my wedding was sooner because I want to be doing the cool things everyone on here is doing like boarding pass invites and photographing their dresses!!

    Newly engaged!

Welcome! I swear this is the most helpful site ever! There are a ton of resources and tips available. Even for things other than weddings. Congrats on your engagement and happy planning!
  6. Thanks for the advice! I know I would have done the same type of damage!! I am so excited for when I get to make mine. And I am not a DIY kind of girl. But everyone on here has motivated me to take on this project. Can't wait to see pics!!!
  7. It looks like there was quite a bit of warning with this storm so hopefully damage was reduced and people are safe.
  8. Hopefully it wasn't too bad. I guess that a downside of a summer DW in the Caribbean or Mexico. I was in Cancun during Katrina however, and it never rained once. It didn't even get cloudy. So unless it's headed straight for you, a tropical storm or hurricane hopefully doesn't ruin your plans!!
  9. Airfares just seem to go up. I researched flights to Hawaii to determine what the overall cost is going to be for the DW...and in order to avoid TWO DAYS of travel with multiple stops, the best I saw leaving and getting to Hawaii same day was $1,250 per person from Toronto. And that doesn't include tax and taxes are ridiculous here on airfare. So that's another $200 almost on top of that per person. It is like $3,000 just to get there for 2 people. So frustrating! Sometimes we drive to Buffalo as flights are cheaper there. But not by that much in this case. I have seen some deals though if you fly out of Phoenix or Las Vegas...so possibly using points for a flight to one of those cities and then booking a flight to HI from there might save some money? You can also try booking flights leaving on an off day when routes aren't as busy. I think if you leave on weekends it can cost more than during the week.
  10. Welcome! Cabo is a popular place for a wedding, and from all of the photos I have seen from the Cabo weddings from members, it is amazing! You will find tons of resources here to help you out. Congrats and good luck with the planning!
  11. Welcome! Congrats on the engagement. You have come to the right place because the forum has tons of info on every destination and it will definitely help you narrow down a location. Good luck with the planning!
  12. I can't speak from a man's experience, but from my own with my ERing, which is platinum, I find it to be kind of heavy. I am happy with the choice but it definitely has some weight to it. Also, despite me being VERY careful with it, it has some scratches on it already!! I am told they can be buffed out and that it is normal for this to happen, but it might not be the best metal based on what you described! You may want to ask a jeweller about it when you go shopping. That is what they are there for, and they will hopefully recommend something that is perfect!

    newly engaged

Welcome and congrats on the engagement! This forum will definitely help out with some of the decisions. Lots of great tips and info here!
  14. I have been to both Cancun and the RM and found that Cancun was geared more towards singles. There is/was (when I was there) a lot of really fun bars and clubs and I honestly had the time of my life (when I was single). Then when I had a long term boyfriend we started vacationing in the RM. A definite singles-type all inclusive is the Oasis. Or I think the Grand Oasis perhaps. I think there are several at different price ranges. I haven't been for 2.5 years but at that time, that was the happening spot. Not sure on the food quality there as I heard it wasn't the greatest. If you want to be close (walking distance) to some bar areas) I also stayed at the Riu Cancun. And there was a mall across the street, and we walked to clubs. Cancun is a really fun spot from my experiences!!! Really fun!
  15. Hi, as far as I know, there aren't any. Or I read there may be one, but it is not like the typical all inclusive resort you would find in Mexico or the DR. I was debating this a lot but decided that Hawaii was going to be the destination and I crossed off the all inclusive factor on my list.
  16. WOW! Your dress is stunning, the setting is just beautiful, and it looks like so much fun!!!! Very inspiring. Congratulations!!!
  17. Welcome to the forum! You are right about the creativity...the women on here blow my mind with the stuff they come up with for invitations and other do it yourself projects. It is very inspiring! Hope you get some great ideas, and wish you well with the planning!

  22. We had been dating about a year and 10 months when we got engaged. We moved in together after about 7 months of dating I think...It was so strange how it worked out but it just did! We will have been together just over 4 years when we get married.
  23. I LOVE the two-toned dress. Whether it is all one colour or the two colours I think it photographs really well and would be figure flattering.
