That is sucky. They always post that they can make changes but honestly, who ever thinks that they will? There is another cruise in Feb 2010 that goes to St. Thomas with Carnival. Not sure if the ship is comparable to the one you had originally booked. It is the same itinerary though as a Carnival cruise I am going on at the end of December. So if you are not booking right away I could let you know how it goes. I believe several cruise lines though do go to St. Thomas as when we were booking our trip we compared pretty much every cruise that was departing at the same time. You should be able to make it work so don't worry! I am sure people won't mind too much, since there is still a lot of time to make arrangements.

Any other 2010 Brides out there????
*Lo* replied to Michelle's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I am a 2010 bride as well. Very excited that there are a few others here. I probably would have pushed for 2009 but my FI is going away to school for 2 years. So we wanted to wait until he was back and settled. Looking forward to taking my time with planning and not stressing out! We have decided on 10/10/10 as our big day! -
We have to wait until 2010 to get married and June was the earliest due to my FI going away to get an MBA (sad face). I didn't like the idea of a summer wedding, I guess because everyone has one....and with a destination wedding it gives you more options due to nicer weather! So we thought of October, and then decided that 10/10/10 would be really cool. So we are aiming for that but since it is sooo far away we haven't booked anything. But that is the goal!

Going to NYC, what's the best hotel around Times Square?
*Lo* replied to Infinity22's topic in Random Thoughts
Definitely the W Times Square. We stayed there around Christmas time and it is amazing! Extremely modern, a very different feel to it. Our room was spacious considering it is in Manhattan. Great view. The staff was helpful, we upgraded our room with no problems. There is a restaurant/lounge attached to the hotel as well which is convenient. It is definitely not like any other hotel. Very unique. -
Welcome to the forum. And you are correct, it is impossible to do work once you join!

I am very excited. I was getting all confused though because for awhile it was on Tuesdays, now it seems to be Wednesdays. I was in such a panic as I missed it one week so I set the PVR to record it ANYTIME it is on ANY channel! What I didn't realize is that they replay them on much music here in Canada often. So now I have is every episode 225 times on the PVR...but oh well at least it's a safe bet it will be recorded! Got my tickets in the mail yesterday for the Toronto tour date!!!!

Insuring your Engagement Ring
*Lo* replied to bethtamar's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Haha ya my FI also wouldn't give me the ring until it was insured. It was appraised by one of the jewellers associations and then he didn't agree with it because it was $15,000 more than he paid for it! So he went to an independent appraiser and since the ring was already built at that point, they cannot see the entire stone so the appraisal was less. We had to actually switch home insurance companies because they would not insure the ring even separately saying that it was too much risk. (Ridiculous). So we found a new company that did. I believe it is $600 a year just for the ring insurance and then about $600 for home insurance for us. But they will write us a cheque for the total appraised value no matter what. So if I lose it, or it is stolen, or it falls off and is run over by a car, or falls off swimming in the ocean on our honeymoon...it doesn't matter. Don't take a chance!!! Make sure your policies cover your beautiful rings!! I live in Toronto though so it is probably a lot higher here. I swear Torontonians pay more for everything. -
That is great info thanks! I think for $500 if it included a lot of photos that I could figure out what to do with myself that would be great. I am just not sure that an album is what I would want...I was figuring if they sent me the photos, I don't mind paying $500, if it includes more than 10 photos. (Because I always find something wrong with every photo that involves me!) That is my only hesitation. So hopefully they will clear up that confusion. The timing is definitely great for Feb/Mar 09 though. So I am pretty much in.

Hi, thanks for all the info! I believe it is standard as the sitting fees are typically $200-$275, however they would come with a disc of photos included. (based on some of the websites I have been to) Am I understanding that it is $475 for the photos as well? Or if you don't want them in an album form, how does it work? I think the $225 is very reasonable if we are receiving at least some digital copies of photos. If we are going to pay per print on top of that I am not sure. I have done a few photoshoots before as I have a few photographer friends, and makeup artists are in and around $60 for a shoot, so either we could use the one they locate or we could probably find our own for a little less. I think it all depends though, the makeup professional at the salon I go to is $100 per hour, so I don't know how long the makeup application would actually take. I am not too worried about that, or the sitting fee, just want some more info on the photos in terms of how they are provided to us, can we have them printed ourselves, etc.

Going to Toronto or Montreal for Sept. mini-moon...I think
*Lo* replied to Maura's topic in Random Thoughts
Although I am in no way against Toronto, I love it here, I agree that Montreal may have more of what you are looking for. If I am looking for a fun weekend getaway I tend to go there. I guess I just can't see people actually vacationing in Toronto because I am from here. Toronto is actually very similar to Chicago, so Montreal would be a different environment. Tons of amazing restaurants and great shopping. If you want to check out something more European, you could make the trek to Quebec City if you get a chance while you are in Quebec. It kind of feels like you've gone to a different country there...it is really cool. I last stayed at the W Montreal which was amazing. Could walk or take the subway anywhere from there. There are a lot of other great hotels in the area as well. -
Wow that is tough. I am sure I will encounter the same thing as I am hoping to limit the list to 12 people. I know my FI wants his grandmother to be there and if she is well enough I figure why not. I was not planning to invite my grandparents since I don't think they can travel that distance. I find with family, you either invite everyone (aunts uncles, cousins) or you kind of have to invite noone. I can't invite one aunt over another...so if I really want a small wedding, it is noone! But I do see a situation if I want to invite one or two friends. How do I do that over family? These things are so complicated! I hope everything works out...I think if it is your FI's grandmother then he should be the one to discuss the matter with her. Just my personal opinion.

Trying to Decide on an Island
*Lo* replied to lhsing's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I picked Kauai because it is not as busy and as touristy as some of the other islands. Also I just fell in love with the scenery on the north coast. We may honeymoon on a different island for a few days... I guess the choice was easy because my FI is insisting that Kauai is the most beautiful place in the world. So I couldn't really say no! -

I am so sorry to read that you are having a difficult time. I thought I might have a thyroid problem because I am seriously always exhausted, it doesn't matter how much sleep I get. But really that is the only symptom. I only considered having my thyroid stuff checked because my mom had thyroid cancer. I cannot stress enough that if you have a lump or something that is not right, PLEASE go get it checked out. My mom's was visible, and she was having problems like you have mentioned, being tired, not eating anything hardly and gaining weight, and several other issues where she felt like crap all the time. She had almost just become used to feeling that way. She had a biopsy done and they said everything was fine. She didn't need to have it removed. She decided to have it removed anyway because it was causing the hoarse voice and painful sore throat and also it was painful. After she had the surgery, they did tests on the lump and turns out it was cancerous. Even though they had previously said it was fine. So because she felt that something was just wrong and made the decision to have half of her thyroid removed, it turns out it was the right choice. She has constant monitoring now every 3 months but it looks like she will be fine. Not saying all of you that are experiencing thyroid problems have cancer, it is actually a fairly rare occurance, but if you think something is not right and you felt a lump or can see one, don't ignore it. Get second opinions. Sorry for my rambling!! I just worry so much about this. And I want everyone to be healthy!
