  1. It looks AMAZING. I think we will do the same as some others and spend a few days there after the wedding.
  2. Thanks for clarifying that Tammy. I will figure out what I need to do about my photographer and most likely since she's not from Cabo she would not be on a preferred vendor list. So I will make sure to bring this to her attention. Other than that, I personally would find it a lot easier if they provided me with a list of vendors that they trust and who meet their standard. Makes less work for me!
  3. Yes that is a little concerning re: the outside vendors. I emailed a week ago about bringing a photographer JUST in case and I was told it was absolutely no problem (Our photographer will stay at the resort). But I wonder why there is an issue with a DJ?
  4. We have everything separate except for one joint savings account, which we use for the wedding stuff, and for vacations. We each have our own savings accounts though. We each pay for expenses and it seems to work out. For awhile he paid for a bit more since he made more money, now he's in school so I pay for more. It just seems to work well! The only thing is that he goes to school in the US and I stayed in Canada. I am moving to the US with him for his last year in August and so I think we're going to share an account there. We have been watching the FX rate and transferring some of my money slowly into his account there when it is favourable. I am a little nervous about this as it will be the only USD I have when I'm there. Plus I will be making Canadian dollars still. I just feel if I take cash out for something he will ask about it and that will irritate me. The account will pay our rent and common expenses while in the US but if I want to do stuff with friends or buy something for myself I don't want to feel guilty. Likewise when he goes out and spends $200 at a bar (which would irritate me). Any advice from your joint accounters?? Do you feel guilty about spending from a joint account?
  5. Haha yellow and red. My FI would suggest something like that as well! He said he kind of wanted to wear an orange tie. So that could go with orange/pink colour combo, or if it was a coral orange, it could go with a beach theme. I have been using the knot as well. I think I looked at EVERY single photo they had haha.
  6. I am right there with you. I keep seeing bouquets of bright pinks and oranges and I never thought I was interested in those colors but the flowers are amazingly pretty. But then I am kind of leaning towards doing beachy colours as well like tan and coral and aqua type idea. I have awhile to decide but I keep going back and forth as well!!
  7. Hey! I am moving to Boston in August, my fiance currently lives there...I'm getting married at Dreams Cabo, not sure if you were referring to specifically Cancun or not! But anyway, that's my story!
  8. Thanks SO much for this. You have no idea how helpful it was for us! I contacted Morgan because I too fell in love with her work and she's been great and we've decided to book her. I'm really excited. I dont think you can go wrong with any of those photographers though they are all fantastic!
  9. I'm so excited that there are so many 2010 brides on here now! When I joined there were only a few. We're booked for 10/10/10 because we wanted October, and so it seemed kind of memorable. I wish I could actually get started more on the planning but it's so far away there's not much to do at this point.
  10. I don't have any experience with Yesica but I communicated with Mariana and had no problems. She was very quick to respond and within 48 hours we had our date booked and deposit paid. We are not going to do a site visit because my FI wants to be surprised when we get there. (I don't really get that but whatever) so I really appreciate the reviews and photos! Thanks so much
  11. I don't think I was conversing with Yesica, but perhaps it was another WC at Dreams. I emailed her about securing a date and got a very fast response and within 48 hours we'd made a deposit. However I did not receive anything to sign either, just a confirmation of our date and our deposit which I'm fine with. I figure I have so much time so I won't begin to worry about anything yet. I have heard that you just have to be patient since they are so busy!
  12. Wow they turned out amazing!! I love them! Also, I love that you used Nixon to illustrate the dimensions hehe.
  13. Haha it's ok probably because I've been MIA for awhile. But I'm back and starting to think about wedding things again!

  15. ebredhawk your dress is gorgeous!! Glad there are so many 2010 brides around now!
  16. OMG Ashli the photos are so fantastic!! Looks like it was a lot of fun.
  17. We also rented an SUV and I agree it is a must. The roads we travelled on were all paved though so it worked out. My FI LOVED the driving he felt like a racecar driver on all the hilly turns. We made the trip from San Jose to Villa Caletas in about an hour and 20 mins. Then it was about 3.5 hours to Arenal from there. Then it took 2.5 to get from Arenal back to San Jose airport. The distance actually isn't far it's just that you have to travel no faster than at the most 40 Mph. The driving trips though are interesting because you pass through towns and it's a great scenic trip! I recommend going to Arenal/La Fortuna for sure!
  18. Hey! I JUST got back from Costa Rica last night! And I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I cried when I left it is absolutely a perfect vacation. We stayed at Villa Caletas for 4 nights and it was incredible. It is very secluded but a 10 minute drive to the town of Jaco which is busy and has a beach and a lot going on. We did a day trip to Manuel Antonio from there and it was about an hour and a half drive. Also AMAZING! We then drove up to La fortuna/Arenal area and stayed at the newer hotel Royal Corin. I absolutely died, I didn't think anything could be more amazing than Villa Caletas but I was wrong. It blew me away. We had a jacuzzi that had a tv in it!!! The rooms look right out at the volcano, the grounds are incredible with thermal pools which were fantastic for nighttime. We relaxed at night but during the day did some hiking, a waterfall repel in the rainforest, and also just enjoyed the hotel.
  19. We got engaged in June of 2008 and are getting married in Oct of 2010, so more than 2 years. I know what you mean, when people ask when the wedding is and you say Oct 2010 they look at you really weird. But my FI is away at school until June 2010 so we wanted to wait until he was finished and when we were back settled into our lives again! I just didn't want to get married and then live apart our first year of marriage! At least now that it is 2009, if you say 2010 it doesn't sound so far away!
  20. They are quite different. I do mostly US personal tax though.
  21. I am an accountant and am right in the middle of doing a lot of returns! But just wanted to say hi, and say that if you have straight forward tax situations, it does make sense to just prepare them yourself. (Unless you'd rather just pay for the convenience). Our firm does not do any returns that are straight forward because it doesn't make sense to ask people to pay for that. That being said though, the cheapest return I prepared last year was $1,900, so these people have complicated situations. If anyone has any questions though, because they are preparing taxes themselves, feel free to post and I will try and reply!

Sucks you are dealing with this well after your wedding. I can see why you were hesitant to write anything unflattering at all since it's going to cause so many problems. But thanks for doing that, it is really helpful to others and everyone really appreciates it!
  23. I guess it is less safe that it used to be. But seriously there is a shooting like every minute in the US. So why does someone getting shot in Cancun freak everyone out?
  24. OMG this thread is too funny! My FI was really cool with having a small DW...but he was REALLY adament on having an AHR. Little did I know, this was just revealed recently, that he wants to invite EVERYONE we know/have ever known to this AHR, so that "everyone can celebrate with us". I had him make a list and it was over 400 people. He feels very strongly about this. So I revised plans, and decided we'd invite more people to our DW. (by no means 400 though). And I am making no mention of the AHR with the advice of some forum members, most likely when the time comes, there is no way he'd ever organize such an event, let alone want to pay for it! So if he brings it up I change the subject and pretend it was never mentioned
  25. Yaaay more 2010 brides!! We are still really far away, I put in a request to secure a wedding date at Dreams in Cabo for 10/10/10. We've decided on a resort, hopefully soon have a date, and we have been figuring out a guestlist. But that's all we've done so far! Looking forward to the planning process with all of you
