  1. What an awful thing to say! I can really understand how torn you feel in this situation. After all, you're marrying your FI b/c you love him. Having him begging you to appologize can't be easy. He should be begging his mother to appologize to you though IMHO. I think I'm with the other girls in that If you feel bad for yelling at her in front of all sorts of people and feel you can sincerely appologize only for this, go for it. Really, it would only show even more so (Nobody should think it's ok to say someone's going to be an ugly bride) who's the better person. Good luck with the situation. Whatever you do though, don't belittle yourself. There's no reason to appologize for anything that isn't your fault.
  2. This thread continues to sound yummier and yummier!!!
  3. Oh my...this thread is great...in a very bad way. So much for my look-good-in-a-bathing-suit diet!! HA!

Thanks for the article! We booked our trip mostly as a package with airfare, hotel, and car. We are flying in to Maui and out of Honolulu (we are taking a ferry between the two islands). From Des Moines, IA this "round trip" was about $600 a piece. I imagine it could have been even cheaper if we would have flown in to Oahu as well. To give you an idea of what the flight would have been alone, I entered the exact flight in to yapta.com and the tickets were being sold for about $1500 each. Depending on where you are in Ohio (not familiar with the town!), if you were thinking of flying out of Chicago by chance, I know my aunt lives in that area and her flight looked like it would be even cheaper yet, but I don't remember what the price was on this one. For my parents and siblings, they are going to Honolulu for 2 nights prior and then coming to Maui. Their entire trip for 5 days plus airfare was $5000 for 5 of them. When we searched last year before prices started dropping my parents were expecting around $8000 for this. So it's really all a matter of searching and watching for the deals. Hopefully the prices do keep dropping for you! Happy planning! If you would like any more info feel free to let me know!
  5. Like the others have said, searches have turned up a decent amount for me. I'm actually doing a sandframe unity set, which I discovered through someone on the forum using (sorry, don't remember who). Anyways, here's the link to that. Sandframes - Home

  7. So sorry to hear you got laid off Shannon. I hope things get better for you soon. Like the other girls have said, use the extra time to get some of thos DIY projects done, or catch up on something else you've been dying to do!! Will be thinking of you!

  9. Traveling to Hawaii on the cheap - CNN.com I did a search and found it. Also want to throw in here that the deals really do seem to be great. For us, we booked most of our stay in Maui at the Marriott in Wailea and at the time there was a 24-hour 50% off deal going on! I've seen that deal once since then as well...it's only been appearing on Tuesdays so far, but wow, what a deal. We booked 2 nights at the 4 seasons in Wailea for a "treat" and although we planned for a mountain view room due to budget, we have a guaranteed upgrade of garden view. So maybe even better (crossing my fingers!). Our flights were very low priced as well. We were worrying about how much our actual honeymoon was going to cost but it's not as much of a concern anymore!
  10. We got engaged August of 2006....wedding date, June this year. So nearly 3 years for us!! It was a little annoying when people wanted to know why we were waiting so long. For us, it was because we wanted to be done with school before our wedding. I have another friend getting married this year and they scheduled their wedding for the weekend after their semester starts back up! I wouldn't be able to stand that!!!
  11. Those look amazing! You did an incredible job and your guests are going to love them! Agreed that I would frame and hang it if I received such a neat invitation like yours!
  12. Well, this one hasn't happened yet but there's going to be a wedding of a friend in a small drinking town at the town hall...with no alcohol. When I say drinking town, I mean, stores and such consist of a convenience store, a single-person hair salon, a bank, and 2 bars. The 2 bars are in EASY walking distance of the hall (one right across the street). I don't know if she just doesn't get it or what, but I have a feeling I'm going to be feeling bad for her b/c people are just going to walk on over to the bar.
  13. I understand how you feel about not wanting to exclude people who are coming along anyways. I'm the type of person who would feel the same. IMHO I don't see anything wrong with calling your cousin up and saying that you feel hurt (or whatever feeling you truly are feeling) that he would include these other extras when you told him the 3 were fine. Maybe let him know that they're welcome at the wedding festivities under the condition that he (or someone from his group) cover their costs. Figure out what you're paying per guest (including the little things such as the bubbles and all that, b/c they would be using them too) and give him that amount. I think we've all agreed that inviting others is rude, but that maybe people don't get it. So let him know you really are on a tight budget, which is why you eliminated the wedding at home in the first place. Hopefully he'll understand! Keep us updated, I'll be thinking about you!
  14. I'm on the same page with what LeAnne said. I would have loved to register for some fine china, because both of our families are big on get togethers. However, if we only ended up getting a few pieces, there's no way we could afford to finish the set. So we're going to wait, and just registered for some stuff that's everyday, but nice enough that it's passable for a nice get together. We'll just buy our own china when the money is right! Lol
  15. Awwe!! What a little cutie!!! Congratulations!

We're not wearing our wedding attire, but its going to be black/silver/white themed, so I will get a new fun party dress! We'll be iPod-ing it for most of the night, and we will have a band play from midnight on (my dad's band....kinda cute!). We wanted something that was more of a party, and less of a reception, and I figure....everyone is always looking for something fun to do on New Years Eve! This sounds like a lot of fun!!!
  17. FI's family already does a big 4th of July family get-together at his parents farm so we've decided to incorporate our AHR in to this. His dad rented a large tent and it will be BBQ-style. We're planning to work hard at getting our video put together (we're purchasing unedited and I'm using Adobe to edit) and hopefully have at least a simple album put together with lots of the pictures. And of course FIREWORKS!
  18. Wow, that is a real bummer. I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. If I were you I think the best thing to do would be to search around for somebody else as it seems like her priorities are focused soley on herself IMHO. Maybe while you're searching for someone else the hotel will get a new one that will turn out to be great. Like you said, others have done it in 2 months before, but I can imagine how much stress this is causing you. Hopefully something wonderful will come out of this. Good luck! Again, very sorry for how she handled this with you!!
  19. The dress is gorgeous! My personal opinion is don't let the location entirely determine your dress...I tried to go for the destination dress styles but in the end I've got a beaded ivory dropped waist and having it altered to a sweep train from a cathedral. It's the dress I fell in love with and knew it was the one. That being said, I can just imagine the Wow Factor this dress you want would have in your photography against the sand and ocean. I say go for it!!
  20. We're getting married at the Seawatch Restaurant and then going over to Mulligan's On The Blue for the reception as Seawatch's prices were just too high for the number of guests we're expecting. The two are about 5 minutes away from each other. Food here is also about $30/person for their buffet styles and that includes dessert which we're going to try having taken out since we'll have the wedding cake, so it might be even cheaper that way. I too would have loved Olowalu but once we got a full price breakdown of everything that would be needed (tables, linens and dinnerware, caterer, chairs, etc) there was just no way possible. Then we found the Seawatch and Mulligan's and I think it's going to be very beautiful. Both places have amazing views. Good luck on your search and planning!
  21. Congratulations! I can't wait to hear what you have to say when you get back. I am using Deanne for my wedding in June and she's been nothing short of wonderful this far, so I can't wait to meet her. It's so awesome that you were able to pull everything together so quickly! Have a great wedding and honeymoon!!
  22. So it's been awhile since I've made these but just finally got them up on to Photobucket so thought I'd better share! I definately got a lot of inspiration for wording from many on the forum, so thank you to everyone! The back seems to be difficult to read so here's the wording: Dear Friends and Family, We are getting married at Wailea, Maui, HI! The beautiful beaches and amazing views make it the perfect location to start our lives together. We hope that all can attend, but understand that not everyone will be able to make it. Please do not feel bad if you cannot attend. Feel free to visit our wedding website for updates, travel and area information at April Berndt & Michael Gregoryk's Wedding Website - WedQuarters (If you do not have internet access you may contact Michael at 701-220-5090 or April at 701-391-7342).
  23. Look through these pages and you can probably find something you like! Here's what I designed for ours and then we had them printed at OfficeMax If there's anything you want to "steal" from it feel free. I designed them on Publisher 2007 and can send the file if you'd like or even just individual pieces. Good Luck and happy planning!!
