Laura's Wedding Review Dreams Puerto Aventuras 2-28-09
lyales replied to lyales's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
I did not pay extra to have the reception on the beach. I think you could maybe use an IPOD dock depending on the number of people. I would recommend renting the equipment to ensure that all your guest can hear the music. -

We arrived on the Monday prior to our wedding, we were greeted with champagne as soon as we walked up to the hotel. We arrived at about 9:30 am so our rooms were not ready. This was something that we expected so we planned accordingly and packed our bathing suits. The resort is absolutly beautiful and the community that surrounds it is what makes it an optimal spot for a destination wedding. DPA is located in a small town I guess you could call it, there are dolphin and seals are only a few steps away from the resort. There are shops, resteraunts and bars if you feel the need to ventures away from the resort. Our room was beautiful we had an ocean view on the third floor I would recommend that you request a room on a higher level. Don't get me wrong our view was great we were able to see all of our guest at the pool We did meet with the wedding coordinator twice prior to the wedding. During each of the meeting we went through the details of the wedding food, flowers, location, and music. I will go into detail about each. We choose the Ultimate Package..... Food: We did the Surf and Turf with Tortilla soup, salad, and wedding cake. The food was FANTASTIC the night of the wedding.....the servers were a bit slow with the courses I think the entire meal took about an hour and half. Our cake was Vanilla and was GREAT!! They will not bring the cake out until right before you cut it due to the warm weather. Flowers: Our flowers were Beautiful they were very tropical with a main focus in fushia and orange. I did send Jacy a few pictures of what I wanted prior to the wedding. This is one thing not to stress about the flowers were absolutley breath taking. Location: We were married in the wedding gazebo which they decorated beautifully there were flowers and tool that gave it a wonderful wedding feel. The scenery is really the best part in all of our pictures all you see is ocean. We has our reception on the beach, this was really our only option since we had about 50 guests. This I was nervous about! In the end it looked beautiful. Keep in mind it is pretty windy by the ocean so the candles and tiki torches were not useful. We did not do a dance floor we just danced on the sand (who knew) the sand is actually rather hard, the area they use is normally the volleyball court. Music: We actually rented the equipment for the reception and just used our IPOD this worked great! The Mexican Trio was great from what I hear Eric and I were off taking pictures during this time. Cocktail Hour: If you choose to do this clarify with the wc whether or not a bar will be set up! Our guest went to Barracuda bar to get all their drinks. Also there were not many appetizers and the ones I tried were not very good. Photographer: We used a photographer from outside the resort. We did use the resort photographer for shots of all of us hangin out around the pool. If you do the ultimate package jacy told me after the wedding that I had the choice of the photographer or videographer, and that I had choosen the photographer. I didn't realize that there wasn't a videographer until I was walking down the aisle, so make sure to clarify! This was something I was really bummed about. After the reception about 20 of us did go to Coco Bongo in Playa Del Carmen this was very fun and I would recommed that you go if you have crowd that enjoys drinking and dancing. All all it was a PERFECT day Eric and I had the best day of our lives and our guest had a wonderful time. I would recommend DPA to anyone that is thinking of a DW. Below is a link to my photographers website Lydia was fantastic I would also recommend her. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Lidya Solemidt

It seems that when I email her it always takes 48 hours for her to get back to me. I know someone asked about activities we are doing a snorkling cruise the day prior to the wedding with Amstar. Jacy actually helped me get it set up, and they were also negotiable on the price. I would have to say that it appears that Jacy is becoming more relaxed we have been communicating alot since the wedding day is getting really close we leave in 23 days!!! Now we just need to figure out when we will meet when we get there I am hoping to do it the day after we get there so it gives us both some time to work any kinks out.

Hi Ladies- Only 38 days to go and to be honest my stress level has set in. I am just taking it day by day and checking things off my list to do. In regards to foot wear my mom actually had beautiful flip flops made for me they are white with a 1 1/2 wedge covered in swarsoski (sp) cyrstals. I know is sounds cheesy but they are perfect. Please know that I will of course be doing a review on the resort once we get back from the wedding we come home March 4th. We are honey mooning at Dreams Tulum =) I am sure that I am driving Jacy crazy right now. I am trying to convince her that the $18 extra for the cocktail is crazy!! I will let you know how the fight goes. Please let me know if there is anything that you want me to find out in particular and I will.

I did pick up some things at ikea for decorations its a bowl and i bought floating candles. I plan on buying lots of tea lights also, so it is very romantic =). I wonder if anyone is getting married before me Or if I will be the first. I will be a good trial run =)

AliMay- Eric and will be having a brief rehersal Friday morning prior to our excursion. We do have a wedding party, and we just want to make sure everyone knows what their doing. It will be brief and to the point. One of my friends was married at Dreams Puerto Vallarta last year around this time and she told me to tell all of you not to stress!! She wishes she wouldn't of once she got there her wc had all of her emails and they got everything all straightened out. She also said they were very accomodating with making changes to the package. Her suggestion was to make sure you keep every email you have with the wc and bring it with you. Let me know if you have any questions!

I agree I think the bags are a great idea!! I actually bought floppy sun hats yesterday for $15 a piece. =) In regards to the catermeran I believe that we leave the resort late morning 10-2 while out there we will snorkel, have a light lunch, and cocktails. Right now I am trying to work with them to maybe leave around noon, since I have more guest coming in that Friday than I had expected. I thought this would be a great way for everyone to get to know each other prior to the wedding.

Hi Ladies, I got an email from Jacy today and she said the hotel is coming alone beautifully!! =) She said that she would send me updated pictures as soon as they are open. I also was looking for some help the wedding is coming very quickly and I am at a loss of what to get my bridesmaids. I was thinking of putting a beach bag together for them with fun things that they would each like. Any suggestions would be great. I did want to let you know that Eric and I have booked our caterman adventure through the compnay that Jacy referred they have been wonderful!! They cut their price in 1/2 we are only paying $52 a head, much better. The name of the company is Amstar. Hope all is well with everyone!!

Reluctant Beach Bride- The photographer that I am using is Lidya Solemidt. Here is her website. Web Site: http://lidyasolemidt.t35.com The way I presented it to Jacy was that I had already booked her. I also said that I would be happy to pay the fee for a day pass. She was nice about it but said she would make an exception. I will know more after my wedding on 2-28. Also have most of you booked your wedding through your travel agent? My travel agent is encouraging me to do this....and it makes me a bit nervous.

Hi Everyone..... I am still working with Jacy she has been very accomidating. She has approved my photographer. I was very specific with who she was and provided her website to Jacy. I really made it so she could not tell me no. Also I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to encourage your guests to book for the wedding?

I know she wants orange and pink for her wedding colors. Anyone else used those colors on this board? I know she is bringing her own bows and sashes too. not sure about table runners, tho I AM ALSO DOING FUSCHIA AND ORANGE!
