  6. Take an RV....it WOULD be an adventure......lol. Why don't these people look at a DW as an exciting trip where they can have fun and experience new things?
  7. I'm doing orange, with accents of chartreuse (like a light, bright green)
  8. Do you have her contact info so I can email her with more questions? Wow, $100 is nothing!! Thank you for looking into this for me!
  9. Do you know how much it costs to have a ceremony at Cannon house if we are not staying at the hotel or doing our reception there?
  10. Jacilynda - What restaurant and site is your wedding going to be at? I am getting married in Akumal in June 2009 and am looking into having the Turtle Bay Cafe cater and coordinate, and having the reception at the Centro Ecological Akumal. Still waiting for a quote, but I think it will be well within that same budget.
  11. I've been going through the same exact thing, but it's been getting better! y family is so stuck on tradition and doing things "the right way", but who says their way is the right way? I think some people just have a hard time accepting that their children have minds of their own and are actually grown up. We decided to do a DW because we can't get married in the Catholic church without my fiance going through the annullment process-something he doens't want to do, especially since he had a son out of his last marriage. (I completely understand). We offered to get married in a different Church (Lutheran, Episcopalean, etc) but my dad said he wouldn't feel comfortable with that. So I brought up getting married outdoors, which made him feel better, then I mentioned Mexico and he started smiling! My mom has been slow to accepting this because she's worried about what other people will think, and all of the people that won't be able to go, but it is ultimately something that WE want. So she's done the same thing, dropped little hints, or brought up little negatives here and there about why we should get married in the states instead, but she's coming around. It took her a good month or two, and now she's just a little anxious because she thinks planning a wedding in another country is hard. I am the one doing all of the planning though, she hasn't looked into it much, so she told me that once I ceom to her and show her the details she'll feel better about it. It has been hard for me, especially since as the bride, I would love for my family to be happy, and show some excitement over the planning process, not keep bringing up concerns. Just trry to take a deep breath and remember you're not being selfish in your decision, and the others that might be giving you a hard time, THEY need to come to terms with it, not you. = )
  12. I am getting married in Akumal in June 2009. If you don't know where Akumal is, it's about 20 minutes away from PDC. We are staying at Las Villas Akumal (Akumal Villas | Mayan Riviera Vacation Rentals Mexico | Las Villas Akumal) and though I've never been there, it looks really nice, and the staff has been very helpful in answering all of my questions and trying to accomodate what we wish to do. One problem I had with finding a villa is that every location required us to rent out the whole place, which got expensive. Also, not all of our guests will be staying the same amount of time, so while some people leave, others will incur more cost because the cost of the villas will be split among fewer people. What I like about Las Villas Akumal is that people can make their own reservations for as long as they want, and we do not have to rent the whole complex. There are 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms villas, all with full kitchen, living room, dinette, etc. I believe a continental breakfast is included in our stay, but all other meals must either be bought at their onsite restaurant, or cooked ourselves...we can also hire one of their cooks to cook us a meal in our villa, if we prefer. While the villas are open to the public during our stay, I think it is a very small complex so there won't be crowds of people interfering with our time. It is right on the beach, some villas have hammock chairs right on their terraces, and if some of your guests just really want to do the all-inclusive thing, Akumal Beach Resort is right down the beach within walking distance or a short cab ride. That's where some of our guests will be staying. Hope this helps!
  13. Aside from the "typical" gifts like jewelry, here are a few things I was thinking of getting my BMs: ***Massages or Manicures ***Personalized stationery ***Taking them all out to lunch in Mexico - maybe a day or 2 before the wedding ***Personalized Travel Tote - Large Lighthouse U-zip Toiletry Kit from Lands' End Packable Toiletry Kit from Lands' End I am also going to stock the rooms (we are staying at villas, not an all-inclusive resort) with a bottle of wine and maybe some beer and snacks.
  14. I've been to Punta Cana several times and I love it! You'll have to do the Outback Safari tour though the mountains!! Have fun planning....
  15. I am getting married in June 2009 in the Riviera Maya. I've been trying to find a beautiful wedding site where I can have a ceremony, with a view of the ocean, but I don't want it right on the beach in the sand. Does anyone have any suggestions for places where we can have the ceremony (and possibly reception at the same place) on a terrace, in a gazebo, or in a garden? Thank you!
  16. Wow - I actually got emotional and was teary-eyed watching the clips. Partly because of the music, partly because of how beautiful it was, and partyl because I was thinking how great it will be when I get married in Akumal next year! Thanks for sharing...
  17. Still trying to finalize the location. We'll be staying at Las Villas Akumal - maybe we'll have the ceremony and reception there. Otherwise I've got a couple of restaurants in mind that I've been getting info on - Yaxche, Maramao, Negrosil..... Do you have any experience with a wedding in this area?
  18. Has anyone worked with Natalia from Weddings on the Beach? I'm getting in Akumal and she has been answering alot of my questions. Just wondering if anyone has run into any issues, or if they have good reviews about the company before I sign a contract with them. Thanks!!
  19. Welcome! I think once you start researching things on the internet and from the fellow Destination brides on this forum (who have given me alot of ideas) things will start to fall into place. I just started really getting some answers and finding places in the last few days, and now I want to bump my wedding up from Nov 09 to early 09 because I am so excited I can't wait! lol Have fun!
  20. Welcome to the group! Maui should be beautiful!
  21. Thank you for all of the welcoming wishes! We'll be staying at Las Villas Akumal, but not sure where the ceremony or reception will be, yet. I've got some restaurant suggestions from a wedding planner, but am open to suggestions. I do not want the ceremony to be right on the beach in the sand - as lovely as that sounds, I would rather it be on a terrace, in a garden, etc, but STILL have a view of the ocean. Any ideas? I would like to be able to have the ceremony and reception at the same place to make things easier. Thanks everyone!
  22. Hi Everyone! I've been reading through your posts for a few weeks now and decided to join myself. Here are my details: 1: Kristina Foszpanczyk 2: Wedding will be in November 2009 3: Wedding will be in Riviera Maya I've been trying to locate a resort with the following characteristics: *All-Inclusive *Intimate, bungalow or hacienda style, not a mega complex *A place with lots of lush flowers and plants, on the beach *Not too pricey - I'd like to keep the cost between $800 - $1300 per person for a 7 night stay *If it's a villa type place, I do not want to have to rent the entire complex, as that can get pricey, I'd like the guests to be able to rent the rooms for the days and length of stay that suits them. SOme might only be able to stay for 3-4 days. I have found Las Villas Akumal yesterday and it looks promising. The only thing is that it is not all-inclusive, but breakfast is included. Has anyone else stayed there or known of a wedding there? I look forward to discussions with other brides!
