Annoyed photographer... how do I fix? *long*
zorlack76 replied to dursula's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Let me put it like this. If they took that long to get back to you, then they probably arent in a huge need of your business. If I was running a business, and someone had an inquiry, I would get back to them asap because they are potential revenue. A lot of good points have been made here. If they took that long to get back to you, how long is it going to take to get your pics back. When you do get them back, are you going to be satisfied?? Probably not. I recommend doing what Morgan said. Most resorts will work with you on swapping out your photographer for audio/visual equipment. If you are flying in a photographer, they will probably have some spare time to do an extra hour long session. But I totally recommend skipping the people who didnt get back to you for a month...thats B.S. -
Well, I know this doesnt count, but we want kids at some point but want to travel more before we have them. Since most of our honeymoon is going to be "wedding related" at the resort where we are getting married, we were talking about traeling out of the country at least once more before we have any kids...so probably within one year of getting married. That will probably be our real honeymoon. Maybe Greece somewhere, but thats not our final decision.

16yr old girl gets married..but you need to see!
zorlack76 replied to JennyK's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
I wonder if her mother and father are actually proud of her. It looks like her dad is about as old as her groom. Hmm....some people. There is no way I'd let my 16 year old daughter get married...let alone dress like that. -

None the less, what a stellar vacation!!!!

Good point...I think I will start doing that. I have always ended it "-Chris and Christine" But putting our full names and wedding date should be a lot better. Maybe I should attach a copy of the contract to each email too hahahaha. Just kidding

Welcome back and congratulations. It puts me at ease to know that you loved it there!!! Just like the rest, I cant wait to see pics and a review!!

Well, we are on a tight budget, so since we are getting married at Dreams Resort in Cancun, that is where we are honeymooning. We will be there for a total of 8 days. I wish it could be longer, but it is what it is.

FYI, Gaby got back to me and told me it was fine that I was bringing my own photographer. She said she can give me the sound system for the ceremony in exchange for using their photographer. I sent her an email back requesting they give me the sound system as well as a day pass for my photographer. I guess that is kind of an even trade. But included in the email she sent me, she asked me to send her the date of my wedding again because she forgot it. She said she has so many weddings that she just cant keep track. OMG...if they gave my date to someone else Im gonna throw a shit fit!!! I talked to her on the phone a few weeks ago and she said she wrote it down in her calander so no one else can take my time slot. Hmm...now Im starting to get worried.

Then I decided to upgrade my package... I haven't heard from her in more than 2 weeks. I don't know if maybe she doesn't deal with the package that I chose and I've been reassigned to a new WC, if she's on vacation, or if she's just too swamped to read her emails. I just recently asked her if she was still my WC and if she was or was not if she could just let me know. I'm still waiting for a response =( I will be contacting the resort this week if I haven't heard from her by Wednesday... Well I wish you the best. With your wedding being right around the corner, you would think they would be in contact with you more often. Sigh....Sometimes I wish they work in the same fast paced manner that we work, but then again, maybe that means that each wedding gets their due diligence. Let us know what happens!!

I Need your help * TIPPING *
zorlack76 replied to Island Princess's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Also keep in mind that if you give the photographer a good tip, they may be willing to do some extra editing for you, thus, producing (theoretically) better pictures. However, that is just a chance. You could always say to the photographer, "If you give me some really great pics, I'll send you a nice cash tip upon receiving those pics." I wouldnt worry about etiquette so much as the quality of photos you get. Remember, money buys everything (including happiness sometimes) I know if I had an extra 20 or 30 thousand dollars, I would be much happier in planning this wedding. hahahaa -

Id like to tell these people, "Listen, if you dont like it then Ill just take my business elsewhere!!!" But, I really dont want to make a threat Im not prepared to uphold. We really want to get married at Dreams Cancun, but dont necissarily want to follow all their rules. Plus, we have already told all our family and friends where we are getting married, so we cant really change that now.

I think thee is probably a master key for the safe, just in case someone forgets their passcode...but I dont think the maids have access to it. Dreams/Secrets is a very reputable company and I dont think they would let something like this get in the way. If they had a lot of incidents of stolen items, people would not feel safe going to those resorts, thus, they would lose business. I woudnt get too over concerned with it, but just pack your belongings smartly and dont leave those $1000 earrings laying on the vanity in the bathroom

We are all so happy for you both!! Of course, being a fellow Dreams Cancun bride, we expect you will be able to answer all our questions when you get back hahaha....j/k Well, kind of. There are so many details with the contract that some of us...(ok, well at least me,) are worried about. We hope you have a wonderful time and cant wait to hear all about it!

WC at Some Hotels?
zorlack76 replied to delauren's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Well, of course that depends on how much you want to spend/how big your budget is. If you are not limited by a tight budget, by all means, contact an independent WC before calling hotels. That way, they can make recommendations for you. It seems like all the WC's at the hotels which come with their wedding packages are more or less sales people rather than someone trying to help you plan your wedding. They pretty much just reserve the date for you, send you the contract, and collect the money. A lot of times, they dont really bargain with you f you want to exchange certain items in a package for others. Also, be careful because some of the hotels have a set list of vendors they use, so depending on if you take a wedding package or not, you may be limited to certain things (i.e. a certain DJ, a certain photographer, 1 place to get flowers, etc.) -
Yeah, to reiterate, locking things up is a must. We brought a few hundred in cash down with us the last time, and we locked that in the safe the second we got there, then we just took money out when we needed it like an ATM or something. But things like cash, small cameras, and any electronics (iPods, etc) should be locked up at all times unless you are using it. We did not have any problem with any stolen goods while we were there and actually left a $2000 camera laying out on out bed a lot when we werent in our room and had not plans on taking pics. Thank God no one took it, but it was too big to fit in the safe. Just be smart about everything, and stay kind of tidy...that way you know right away if something is out of place.

With all due respect, "gazebo drapery only" is not comparable in price to Juan Navarro's photography, and therefore is not an acceptable or fair credit. If we chose not to use Juan Navarro, we should in exchange be receiving a credit valued at $600 (the cost of his package). What else (besides gazebo drapery) can possibly be traded if we do not want to use Juan Navarro for photography? For instance, could we trade for "gazebo drapery AND a longer upgraded video package" instead? i'll let you ladies know the outcome! Hey there, I sent Gaby a similar email today. She sent a copy of the contract she made up (with several mistakes on it including misspelled words and such.) Nonetheless, I finally sent her an email back stating that we are not using the photographer there because we were planning on flying in our own (which we still have yet to decide.) But I pretty much demanded in a nice and polite manner that we get the sound system for the ceremony for free and asked her how many meals they could credit us in exchange for us not using their photographer. Ill let you know how she responds when she finally does respond. But you are right, the drapery is not a comparable value at all. However, if you price everything on the Ultimate Package "a la carte," it comes out to well over the $2650 they charge.

My Question is...Who so far has Used Carlos Mannia, Was he worth it and if you used the lighted Dance floor..How was it? I also only need him for 3 hrs...I am going to e-mail him now about that though. Thanks Ladies!! One of these days I will get it all figured out. I keep telling myself that If I have a big crowd, it'll be worth it to go big on the beach!! LOL I dont know if he has gotten back to you, but he pretty much refused to talk to me since I told him our wedding was at Dreams. He told me that all DJ questions needed to be directed toward Claudia or Gaby. I have heard both ways though...some people really loved Mannia, and others say he was pretty much worthless. I know he has a tendency to repeat songs if you give him a certain play list, so it may just be a matter of communicating with him during the reception to tell him what your expectations are. As far as the lighted dance floor...isnt that cool!! That looks so neat. Unfortunately, we cant afford that, so we are just out of luck

Thank you all for responding to this. I have noticed that a lot of people are having the same problems. I have also noticed that Mexico time is different than American time. Americans are always so rushed and eager to get things done NOW. One last thing I have noticed is that there havent been any posts from Moon Palace brides or grooms. Hmm...how should I take that?

Hey All, I started this thread to find out how many of you have had problems contacting your WC at any of the Cancun/Riviera Maya Hotels. I am just kind of curious, and I am sure several people are, as to how much contact you ahve had with your WC and if they have been more of a WEDDING COORDINATOR or a SALESWOMAN. Has anyone had any luck negotiating their contract with any of their WC's...for instance, of there was something in a certain package that you did not want, did they apply that to another part of the package to bring the overall cost down for you? I am sure a ton of brides on here are interested to know these things. If you could, please list your Resort as well as your WC so everyone can compare notes!! Oh, also, please tell us what kind of problems, if any, you are having. Thanks all!

Hey, I dont know if anyone covered this yet, but has anyone tipped the wedding coordinator (Claudia or Gaby?) For those who have not had a wedding there yet, have you thought about tipping them? If so, how much would you recommend. I hate to say this, but the WC's at Dreams Cancun seem more like sales people that you cant get ahold of rather than a WC who is trying to HELP you plan a wedding on a certain budget. Honestly, I was thinking that if they dont negotiate with me at all, then they will get no tip at all. However, if they knock off like $1000 bucks somehow, then the WC may get a nice hefty tip. What do you all think?
