Lauren, I agree, it is expensive. I am changing course and will be purchasing all my decorations directly from the resort as opposed to buying them here and shipping them or bringing them down with us. I am going to suck it up and pay to ship a couple boxes of stuff for my OOT bags down. We are staying at the resort for 2 weeks and I think I will have too much luggage to also bring extra suitcases with "wedding stuff" in them.

I finally heard back from Nayeli today and she said sending items to the resort ahead of time to her attention was fine. Here is her address: Nayeli Ugarte Groups and Weddings Coordinator Prol. Bonampak Lt. Terreno 001 Mz 001 Sm003 Zona Continental de Isla Mujeres Mpio. Isla Mujeres Quintana Roo, Mexico 77400 She suggests using Fedex or UPS instead of the USPS. Nayeli also advised me that they have hired a new wedding coordinator who will be working with her on the weddings (the response time on the emails should get better, hopefully). Her name is Yamina Bermudez.

I 2nd Erin! If there is no alcohol at a wedding for religious or issues of moral compromise based on personal beliefs then I think it is fine. However, if there is no alcohol or a cash bar for financial reasons, then I think it is discourteous and selfish for guests that are devoting their time and money to celebrate your special day.

I would speak to your MIL, with your FI there and explain where you are coming from, before I would even consider apologizing. Since there has been some time passed, it may be easier to have a covil conversation to explain your feelings and why your MIL was wrong (she was wrong - no doubt). I would plan my thoughts ahead of time, maybe jot some things down in case you get upset, you will not lose your train of though. Explain to her that you felt that her words were completely out of line, rude and hurtful. If she then realizes her mistake and apologizes, then I would apologize for making a scene and possibly over-reacting (I wasn't there to witness what happened but I do know people have a strong tendency to over-react when upset - I am the Queen of this if its any consolation to you). If your MIL does not see the error of her ways and apologize at least she will understand, as will your fiance, why you are angry with her and she will understand your position. You both may just agree to disagree on this issue. However, your MIL isn't going anywhere, no matter how much you may want her to, and if you guys do not find a way to at least pleasantly cope with one another, it is going to make both of your lives miserable. I really don't think you want that. Good luck!

Post Groom and GM attire
Jennifer Davis replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Kenny got his suit at Brooks Brothers yesterday. He is going to wear a white shirt under it with no tie. He is going to be SO handsome. I am really excited about his outfit. (His best man will wear the same suit) -

She never responded. Is anyone else having this issue? I know the resort is short staffed right now with the departure of Fanny but I do not think that is an excuse for letting emails go a week with no response. Nayeli used to be so prompt in responding. I am actually getting a little frustrated.

Here is a cut and paste of an email I got from Nayeli: The additional decorations included are opt to you, it can be the rose petal aisle runner, an extra centerpiece or 20 color chair ribbons. For the ceremony we also have the seashells and starfish walk way or with river rocks and candles, pictures enclosed. The decorations for the cocktail and dinner are not included, we only have the centerpiece but for example at the X-Lounge non decoration is needed because it’s very nice the way it is, it has some plants the big white lamps and for the spice terrace we will decorate the tables with the centerpieces and if you want to add candles and sea shells it’s also a good idea, for the candles and shells the charge is $15 usd per table (round table of 8 people). Yes, you will have a bar tender at the cocktail hour and at the dinner, at the X-Lounge we are going to use the sol bar which is near it but your guests do not need to go to the bar , you will have waiters and they are going to give your drinks and it’s the same for the dinner, at the beginning of the cocktail and dinner we are going to receive the guests with a drink already prepared for example if you choose a hot pink bouquet we can have strawberry margaritas or if you want only beers or sparkling wine, something matching with the bridesmaids dresses, etc. and after that you can order your drinks to the waiters.

I agree with you 100% We have a bunch of people coming that are planning to stay in a timeshare. Not only the couple that owns the time share, but 4 more guests as well who are friends with the couple who owns the timeshare. We're not paying for their guest passes.... I do have a note on my website indicating the cost for the pass.

Shipping Wedding Items Before?
Jennifer Davis replied to divadivine25's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
There goes my idea of making up my gift bags, packing them in moving boxes already made up and shipping them fedex to the resort. Looks like we'll have a lot of luggage! -

I am getting married in December 2009. I booked the wedding directly with the resort about 1.5 years out to be sure I would get the date and time I wanted. I got Jennifer (our travel agent) on board about 14 months out even though she told me that fares would not be available until about 10-11 month out. I booked the room with Jennifer about 2 weeks ago and the flight today because I found a GREAT deal on a nonstop Continental Flight leaving out of Newark that she was able to get for us.

Lauren, That makes sense then, I guess. It looks like it is the only thing that went up. Kenny found this DJ he LOVES that works at a lounge near us. Kenny was going to have him make 4-5 hours of mixed CDs for us. Initially we were just going to use the CDs for the catarmaran cruise but maybe we'll use it for the wedding reception too and just get the sound system for $500.00. Thanks for the price list!
