HELP! How do I stop uninvited guests?
Kits55 replied to briscoecrown's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I have had an issue similar to this. now, this is kind of rude but actually my friend who wants to come to MY wedding thought of this idea and so far it's taken quite a few people off of the list. Since people want to use your wedding as an excuse for a vacation, if their "excuse" is not so much possible then it changes some people's minds. You can put any spin on this but here is what we decided to do. (we actually DO want it small, only 20 including us and the wedding party) but i really want to keep costs down so i can splurge on fun stuff!) We told people that they are more than welcome to help us celebrate our wedding WEEK by staying at the same resort as us. We then proceeded to tell them that if they so desired they could form an "informal reception" during our "formal or actual reception". So everyone that is there but NOT invited can all meet at a restaurant or bar and after dinner at your real reception you and your DH can go and say hi and thank everyone for coming. most people if they can't come to the 'real reception' don't even want to go then. so they may decide they are fine with just a normal vacation. now, if you don't mind including them in any group activities you are doing (activities where people pay their own way, not you guys paying) you can tell that too. for us it was people fairly close to us that we had to tell that too. we said it in as nice a way as possible, basically, "you mean a lot to us but we're having only immediate family and our wedding party attend our ceremony and reception. we'd still love to have you there to help us celebrate the week but unfortunately we could not accommodate you at the wedding itself, although we'd love for you to join us when we go "deep sea fishing-or whatever it is". it might be a totally dumb idea but it worked for us! -
12.29.07 Wedding ~ Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort
Kits55 replied to OneLove's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
wow, what a fantastic review! My client's best friend will be getting married at the Moon Palace next April and i'll be sure to refer her to your review -
Hi everyone: just a real quick question here: does anyone know a) if there is daylight savings time in the Playa del Carmen/Puerto Morelos area? and if so, what time would approximately would sunset be next April 25th? i cannot find the answer anywhere, i'm not sure how to figure out a ceremony time with cocktails at sunset and the reception at dark. Thanks!

LOL, i guess i never thought about that. After all the important things are done at the reception it stays the same. I just always thought that the getting ready pictures would be so boring, i mean it only takes a few seconds to put on a dress, right? Thanks for the tip, i would have done it all wrong. lol everyone would have made fun of me. Here is another question: i like the work that a certain photographer does but online she has all of hers kind of showing the artistic side (i think she photoshops them so that the sky and water are darker and look like they're paint brush strokes, i have no idea what that's called). I would like more of pictures if they weren't like that. if i'm picking a really colorful, vibrant place i want my pictures to be clear, colorful, and vibrant. So i'm not sure if it's OK to ask her for UN-photo shopped pictures for OUR album and our negatives or if that's rude? i don't care what she posts on her blog or her website but for my own pictures i prefer mostly non-photoshopped ones.

Like I actually told Leigh recently, I am all for letting her do her thing and getting out of her way! But with that said, I do think a bride may benefit from a list in some cases. Given my "unique" family situation, it isn't as obvious about what kinds of formal shots I need to capture. And I love the pj style - no doubt about it. But I also feel like I do have to get those posed formal shots, just because my family is so rarely in one spot, it's a great time to do so. At my first wedding my photographer was amazing, I absolutely loved her work (Kathleen Day-Coen, I believe her name was). The marriage didn't last, but the pictures were stunning! But at that wedding, I totally forgot to take a picture with my now step-mother. My dad has been with her for at least 18 years (over 10 at the time of the wedding) and I totally forgot to get her in one of the family shots. I have felt guilty about that even since! I was so caught up in the day, I didn't even think about it. So, for those reasons, I think a list can help - even if it's just one that the bride keeps to herself as a checklist of photos that are important to her. Ya know? boy am i glad to have found this post. i never thought about how it could be construed at rude to keep sending your photog photo lists. it helps a lot to know that for when i make my decision, i'll just have to go with who i love the most. I will probably still make a small list after reading how some very special very important shots have been missed....and i like the idea of letting your photog know where pictures can be skimped (i.e. getting ready) and where you want a fuller shoot (i.e. the reception).

Omg Pro Pics Are Fabulous!
Kits55 replied to Amy&Andy's topic in Post your Destination Wedding & Engagement Pictures!
Wow, you guys sure make a gorgeous couple! beautiful pictures! Can i ask where your husband got his suit? is it linen? I can't decide what my husband should wear and we're thinking linen because it's lighter weight. i really like the color of your man's suit. -

Kits55 replied to Jennifer Davis's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
OMG, that is the most beautiful, sexy dress ever! i want one! I have no idea who makes it, although it does look semi-Jenny Packham-ish but i know it's not Summer 2008 because i've looked at her repeatedly. It could maybe be from a spring '08 collection since the posting on the site says that it's from a past issue. I have the current July/August issue and this dress is NOT in it. So that means maybe the May/June issue had this dress in it? -
What do you think of these shoes?
Kits55 replied to JennyK's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
i love shoes that aren't as traditional for weddings...it's like a little surprise under the dress! these are awesome -
i hope this exemption still counts in the next couple of months when we're all booking our flights.

Should I relpicate my cake from Jamaica #1 This was the inspiration photo so since it will be bigger it will look more like this: Option #2 is a different cake, but I really like it Option #3 is to keep looking. Erin, where did you get your blingy cake topper? i love it! i also laughed so hard when i read your post about wedding day mishaps. still lmao

Wedding Dress Prices?
Kits55 replied to gkashmira's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
i voted for the under $300 category b/c that's the one that i ultimately picked b/c it had everything i wanted but it just happened to be not very expensive. My very very very favorite dresses were all from a couture boutique between $4,650 and $7,000. That was the first place that i went to and nothing ever compares fit wise to a dress that is "couture". I'm not a couture person by any means but wanted a designer dress. In the end i chose to save a ton of money and go with a dress that i loved and cost much much less. My biggest expense will be my photographer and i told everyone i'm splurging on one so that's why i also wanted to save some money. -

It's our day and not theirs. 2bebride: that's horrible. I can't even imagine that! Hopefully now you won't have as much stress trying to keep them on track, but i'm sorry for you that it cost you a friendship. I guess maybe she wasn't as much of a friend to you as you were to her; but at least now you know.
