Hi Ladies: Here is my dilemma in a nut shell. I decided to DIY my invites. I chose a metallic cardstock for the pocketfold portion of the invites. I had special stamps made so that I could emboss on the pocketfold, inserts, and envelope. I've now come to the portion where I need to emboss on the metallic cardstock. It's horrible! First, the powder will barely stick even though I'm using the same pen/ink as on the inserts. Second, the powder when on the cardstock takes longer to heat so some portions of the image are over heating and rubbing off while the other portion is just right. third, it looks like crap! the biggest problem is that the pocketfolds are already created so they are thicker and trying to open up because we have not sealed them yet. If you've ever embossed on thick, metallic cardstock before do you have any advice or tips? We're doing invites to everyone that already said yes but we're getting married in less than a month and i really want these darn things off my tables! Thanks!

I was going to have the BM walk down the aisle with the GM but decided not to. I am going to have feathers in my bouquet and I've seen some really amazing, gorgeous all feather bouquets. I've also seen crystal bouquets that are basically bouquet jewels all tied up. they are gorgeous in the sunshine. It's something you could really DIY if you wanted to. I did feathers in my bouquet so that I could do feather boutonnieres and not have to spend money on flowers either.

Painting parasols?
Kits55 replied to anaderoux's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Wow, I can't believe that you are dong so many! You're my new hero I also thinking about adding feathers to mine. You can buy feathers that are like tiny boas that you can just glue around the edges for a classy look or you can glue them on individually but in your case I don't think that's so much an option. I have seen girls spray the entire parasol but just in one color, I think it's diffused enough coming out of the can so as not to run or bleed really. I can't wait to see how yours turn out! I was trying to see if I could dress them up a different way but it seems as if I'm limited to painting it or throwing a personalized tag on it. I have to do a lot (about 85) so I was possibly thinking about airbrushing it but I don't even know how to airbrush. We'll see... -

I may have to find a projector to use to either project on the wall so I can make a big stencil or I'm going to need to buy one but i really don't want to have to rush them because then it gets so expensive. It's really my fault for procrastinating...again! -
Custom OOT Cooler Order
Kits55 replied to Kits55's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Hi there! How was your vacation to Playa and Tulum? How was the taste testing, meeting with the DJ, photographer, and WC? Who are you using for a DJ and photographer? We are bringing our own photog because doing a trade with them so i don't even really know who the great photogs are in the area. Quote: Originally Posted by mrsscottyb Hi Kits ~ Thanks for the link to the coolers. The price seems very reasonable and I'm glad that you only have to order 50 instead of 100. If you decide to go with this vendor, please post a pic of your coolers when you get them. I'm sure they're going to look really great. One of the other brides on here, posted pics of her OOT coolers, and they're the ones I really want to order, but she is getting married on 02/21/09, so she hasn't responded to my request for vendor info. and I doubt I'll hear back from her anytime soon. We feel very confident with selecting Ana y Jose's for our wedding. All-inclusive resorts is definitely not our thing and we loved the intimate location that AyJ offers. We are familiar with Tulum and made a site visit last July. For Valentine's Day, my FI surprised me with a trip to Playa & Tulum, so we are leaving this Friday for a week. We are going to have our taste testing and meet with the WC again, plus meet again with our DJ, florist and photographer. I have some odds and ends to finalize too, so it will be a great relief to get this all done before May. Thanks! -

There prices are really decent and they sell in bulk. I went to the second website you suggested and it's ONLY for businesses, it says they will not sell to individuals at all. What's better to stencil, paste monogram under the parasol and trace, or even airbrush? I feel like I've thought of every possible way to try but don't want to waste any on trial and error. Thanks in advance. I hope this thread comes back to life too because i have yet to buy and make my parasols although I'm having problems finding other girls who have done them! I did read about a couple of other girls on "that" website but they won't tell, they have their own little online businesses to make them for other brides. What I am going to do is find someone with a projector, project whatever I want onto the top of the parasol. Then trace the outline and paint from there. I am planning on using acrylic paints and probably rice paper parasols, although there is an Australian company that has fabric parasols that can withstand water....oh, the options! Did you paint yours yet? -
Does anyone want to share monogrammed OOT items?
Kits55 replied to Kits55's topic in Buy / Sell / Trade Archives
Maybe you girls could make a new thread in one of the Jamaica categories and then use this thread as a reference point in case other Jamaica brides want to share some items?? Some items seem to be more popular than others. Good luck! -
Wedding Dress Prices?
Kits55 replied to gkashmira's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Quote: Originally Posted by lolkitteh I had originally wanted to spend about $500-1000 on my dress, max. I just didn't think it was all that important. I had intended to buy just a simple dress (like an off-white bridesmaids dress). Then I went shopping and discovered that I couldn't find anything I liked in that range. To make matters worse, an evil saleslady at a bridal salon brought out a $3000 silk number from a small, unique designer that was much more elaborate than I envisioned, and I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, it became *THE Dress*. Luckily, I was able to find it at discount for $1800, so I bought it. I still have to pay for alterations. Was it worth it? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. After looking at the difference between genuine silk and dresses made out of satin/polyester, I do think there is quite a noticeable difference between synthetic and the real thing. So in my mind, I justify the added expense with the fact that the dress is silk and not synthetic. But I do still think that paying more than $1000 for a single clothing item that you'll never wear again to be quite an extravagence. Did you post your dress yet on the thread for showing off your dress? I can't wait to see it! My experience was somewhat similar except i CHOSE to go to a high end designer store...first! There were actually a couple of ones that I fell in love with but they were about $4,500. Then i went to probably 6 other bridal stores and tried on numerous dresses. I ended up going with super inexpensive gown (under $300) because I wanted the rest of the money to be used elsewhere in the wedding. BUT now I really don't want my dress anymore! I think there is a HUGE difference the way high end designer gowns fit versus other dress. It's the material, the fit, the style, everything. I wish I had chosen to go with a dress that was closer to $1,000 because even one of those would probably fit me better and give me less of a hassle. So i say good for you...if that dress became "the one" then you should be happy with it! I bet it is absolutely gorgeous and your FI's jaw will probably hit the ground when he sees you in it. You can always re-sell it, especially because it's higher end or you could wear it for any at home receptions you are having if you don't feel too weird about it. -
Color Changing Monogram OOT Cups??
Kits55 replied to Kits55's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
hey girls!!! Finally....THEY ARE HERE!!! I took some pictures, see below! I couldn't take any of them in their normal frosted state because they came in from the cold so they were all colored...which I will say made it MUCH easier for me to sort into piles! So, most of you ordered cups in multiples of 5s (there are 6 colors) so everyone PLEASE PM me your TOP THREE preferred colors for the extra 2 cups (those of you who ordered 50). List them in top priority order. There are no guarantees but I'll do my best to give everyone the extra cups in her favorite color! Here are the orange, red, and pink ones! It looks grainy but it's because I had the flash off, the flash made them look totally different colors! The cups are AWESOME! So far I've only found one that has a tiny crack at the top (I'll be keeping that one) Purple, Blue, and Green (The green gets darker but I took it out of the freezer too soon) The sun close up The Palm Tree Close Up, the reading is legible and I'm so excited! This is the green cup which had warmed even more by this point. -

The flatbacks are ones that you need glue, a rhinestone stick that is kind of gummy to pick up the rhinestones, an iron, and transfer paper. Maybe you were looking at the wrong "type" of rhinestone? I am not sure. In the first post of the thread it says Hotfix Flatback so I have not idea. Per this thread she was making them with an iron and mylar paper so I am assuming Hotfix is the brand and flatback is the style? Kerry, Hotfix is a style and so is flat back. They're both "rhintestones". Technically they both have flat backs but the Hot Fix stones have a glue that melts on the back of them which is why you only need a "gun" to adhere them. The flat backs just have a regular silver backing to them. Because she made her stuff using mylar paper and and an iron they are the regular "flat backs" and NOT the Hot Fix. Hope that helps!

no worries. I'll let you know if/when I order everything so you can jump in if you want to. -
Hi Itbscotland as right now I have the location of our ceremony on the beach which I know I will keep for sure. I have our reception as set by the pool but I would like to change it to the beach. My biggest concern about that is how good the service will be if we're way out on the beach and far away from restaurants. I am also concerned that it will be too dark to be nice, that it'll just be a struggle. We're getting married on April 25 of this year. I'm so excited to get down there but I'm afraid that I won't be able to make a decision until we get there I am very stressed out about DIY stuff too because I want to do a bunch of stuff myself but don't have the time right now. I'm a bit of a control freak and perfectionist at times. At least I'm not as bad as the girls on the show Bridezillas!

Color Changing Monogram OOT Cups??
Kits55 replied to Kits55's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Hi Girls: besides the coolers and I'm now thinking of putting in an order for personalized palm tree shaped pens as well decks of personalized playing cards. I'm not definite on the cards yet because things are adding to quickly for me! Here's the thread I started on BDW with links http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...322#post694853 -
Hi! I am thinking of ordering some playing card decks for OOT gifts as well as palm tree pens. I am in love with the pens, especially in pink but would compromise on color. If the order is 100-149 each pen is $2.39 and if the order is 150-499 pens each one is $1.72. I was going to put in an order by myself and put names, date, location, etc but thought thought I'd put it out there if anyone wanted to share an order. Palm Tree Pen - Personalized I'm not positive that I'll get the playing cards but I think it's a fun idea especially for a destination wedding when there might be some down time. I already have a monogram for the playing cards which says Riviera Maya 2009 and has either a really cool sun or palm tree motif. Monogrammatiks Inc. :: Quick You can see the designs on this other thread I started. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t36231-2 For the playing cards I'd like to use the color palm tree because I love it!

Hi Itbscotland, I chose SMB specifically for it's beach because the beach is what was the most important deciding factor to me. I love the pictures from Secrets Capri, how gorgeous is the set-up?! I've never seen anything like it. Have you emailed Cecilia (SMB wedding coordinator) and asked her is you can have the set-up at SMB that there was at Capri? I know what you mean about being stressed out!! I ended up hiring a coordinator because I just wasn't happy with anything that I picked. It took me almost 4 months to pick a place! Now I'm super stressed out about the details because I so badly want to do everything myself but am having problems deciding on what I want exactly! Good luck!

Custom OOT Cooler Order
Kits55 replied to Kits55's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Hi mrsscottyb: here is the link to our favorite coolers so far. I sent an email asking for a quote because we're only getting 50 of them but we'll have some left overs. We're thinking of the royal blue coolers with white print most likely. Imprinted Promotional Products, Logo Corporate Apparel,Custom Promotional Items, Gifts I see that you're getting married at Ana Y Jose Beach Club...I looked into getting married there but I didn't find enough good reviews of it so I was hesitant to book it. I am excited to read your review after your wedding.
