hello fellow may brides! i just found this thread and thought i'd play too things recently accomplished: - made my first dress fitting appt - got my travel mugs, luggage tags and individual medicine packs for my oot bags - made the first 2 parts of our wedding slideshow for our AHR...the growing up and us together parts. used Photostory, soooo easy and looks good i think - ordered FI's wedding band. ha, we were cutting it close with this one as it could take 6-8 weeks. eek - got on my MOH's ass to start planning our co-ed stag/ stagette and co-ed wedding shower in april things to do...that i've been putting off: - calling our justice of the peace so he can meet me and my FI - changing our wedding monogram so i can make stickers out of it - downloading songs for our wedding playlist for our AHR - booking our excursion for our guests in mexico...ugh, need to get on this on - find a tie for FI and best man. difficult to find a tie that goes with such a light colored suit that is the right purple. all the good purple ties are with other dark colors making the tie stand out too much. what do you girls think of this one? Spring Stripe - Lilac Tie that tie, really light tan linen suit, and white dress shirt?

we're renting the aerospace musuem which is a museum of historical planes and in the center of all the planes is a big enough space to have our reception. that was our way of being different and not having to decorate...and no neither of us has a special interest in planes, we just thought it'd be better than a hall or restaurant. we're inviting about 160 ppl, catered but only with hor d'eourves. we didn't want a formal sit down dinner, only a mingling semi formal cocktail reception. we have bar service where we're providing the alcohol. no wedding cake, just desserts. doing a sand ceremony, our wedding speeches, and wedding slideshow. that's it, no other typical wedding reception stuff. no DJ either, we're just making a playlist and boogeying down to it. i have an electric blue backless AHR dress that i'm starting the evening in. but we're getting announced like you normally would so we can make an entrance and i'll be in my mexico wedding dress for that and probably an hour or so after that. but then back to my blue dress for the rest of the night

Great fan find at Michaels
calchik replied to punkie569's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
thanks for the heads up! i was there yesterday and the fans were on sale for $21.99 until tomorrow i think. but i'll go back on the weekend with my 40% off coupon when they're back to regular price i also got 2 square glass vases on sale for $2.99 each for our sand ceremony we're doing at our AHR. our main sand ceremony vase was $3 on sale at pier 1. half the sand will be from mexico and we'll buy the other color of sand at around $5 i'm guessing. sand ceremony for less than 20 bucks. yesssss! i love cheapness. lol oh you can also create an account on the michael's website and they'll email you coupons every now and again -
congrats! you and your wedding were beautiful. i agree with abbie. lets see more pics! your signature pic is gorgeous thanks for such a detailed review. just ups my confidence that our wedding will turn out just as great. i have erick from claudia photography. how long did it take you to get your pics? i have my AHR a month after we get back from mexico so i'm hoping to have my professional pics by then to get them into our slideshow

why is it that the clear plastic vegetable bags at grocery stores are impossible to open?

Jack & Jill, Shower or At Home Reception?
calchik replied to Lindsay.Gingras's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
we're doing a co-ed wedding shower put on by my mom and my MOH for friends and family...pretty much inviting everyone who's invited to the AHR that lives in our city and a co-ed bachelor/bachelorette party which is not the same as a buck and doe as we're not selling tickets to it. this will be close friends and my siblings to go bowling, do stag/ stagette games then go to a bar and party and a AHR cocktail reception where we're inviting everyone and their dog, that'll be about 160 ppl at a rented venue with catering and bar service. we're having open bar for the first hour or 2 then doing a toonie bar after that. if you buy your own alcohol for your AHR at costco you can make an agreement with them to return whatever isn't opened -
definetly dollarama and michaels i got my oot bags at dollarama for a buck each and they have 4 photo slots in the front so you can put your own pictures and personalize your bags. they come in white, pink, blue, black and orange. but they are a bit smaller (might not be able to fit a towel into them) which i was okay with. i got first aid kits, travel wipes, an 8 pack of travel tissues all for a buck each at dollarama pretty sure i saw playing cards in the $1 aisle at michaels plus frisbees and beach balls if you want that kinda stuff too. for my individual medicine packets i ordered them here but i have friends that live in california so i got it shipped to them and they're bringing it when they visit in a couple weeks. but they do ship to canada IMODIUM A-D 2 PACK 36 COUNT here's a free spanish booklet which might be the same one that virg is talking about. Calgary Brides Interested In Bikini Boot Camp!
calchik replied to ashey063009's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
i love bikini boot camp! just registered for this one: https://www.bikinibootcamp.ca/gateway.php it'll be my 3rd year with them yes they're pricey but it's TOTALLY worth it my last 2 trainers have been awesome and you get to work out with all girls and it's all outside which is so much nicer being in nature than inside a stuffy gym and since i'm gone getting married and on my honeymoon during the spring course they're lowering the price for me cuz i'm missing 6 classes right off the bat. woot! i'll be in intermediate with nicole in Central for mondays & wednesdays at 7pm if anyone cares to join me i'd love to meet you girls -
so for the already married gals, how did your dinner/ reception work? i'm a little confused as to when the speeches and cake cutting would happen. i'm doing dinner at tequila and then poolside reception. at normal weddings the cake is done later in the night...which would be at the poolside reception. and for speeches, i know they block off a part of the restaurant but it's not totally private. suggestions on what worked for you guys? or if you'd do it differently than how you did it? thanks!

haha i totally do that why is it that a lot of the fashions that the kids are wearing are disgusting? ie. skinny jeans and now super bright colored skinny jeans why is it that ppl stop in the worst places to talk in a group? like the top of stairs, in doorways, bottom of escalators. move out of the way

i found with mine that very few people booked without me prodding them. i guess you can say they RSVPed cuz i knew generally who was coming and who wasn't. but only a few booked themselves with my TA. it wasn't until i started asking people to put a deposit down in january for our may wedding that people started booking. although i didn't set a hard deadline in the invite i said that space was limited but nobody took it seriously. people like to do things last minute. for our trip it has to be fully paid 60 days before we leave. that's the only deadline everyone has. guess it depends what you consider RSVPing. i considered putting a deposit on the trip or telling me no as an RSVP. i wasn't counting ppl that said they'll probably come but didn't put money down as an attendee on my guest list. you'll be surprised who will end up coming.

so tact is not one of my strong suits and i need help with how to phrase this nicely. my MOH has not been helping me at all. i've got less than 3 months til my wedding and if anything i'll need her help more than ever. esp since i have no bridesmaids that can step up i've had to go AHR dress and tiara shopping with FI cuz she declined me a couple times. our combined stag/ stagette is being planned solely by the best man so far which includes drinking and strippers cuz my MOH hasn't attempted to help plan. i'm hoping she can help me with my hair and makeup in mexico but she keeps being too busy at work (being a lawyer) suggestions on how to nicely ask her to do her MOH responsibilities and give me more help, support, time towards my wedding? i don't want to be mean about it but i'm a rather blunt person so if i say it my way it will end up sounding mean cuz i'm so frustrated with her lack of effort

What have I learned from planning a destination wedding?
calchik replied to shellb's topic in Random Thoughts
glad i found this thread! i totally agree with everything said, esp about knowing who your true friends are. sad but true and that's it's all about me and FI i find when i'm about to buy something or start a DIY i think to myself 'will my guests remember, care or notice?' if the answer is no then i don't bother -
congrats fellow albertan! welcome to the forum, you're going to love it here, sooo much useful information

What wedding anniversary date are you using??
calchik replied to jmb0902's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
we're getting legally married about 10 days before our mexico ceremony. but we fluked out and got our 2 year anniversary date as our mexico wedding date. so we're sticking with that as it's already our anniversary date. that and our legal ceremony will be like 20 mins just to sign the papers. we're not saying our own vows then. we won't have everyone there that matters to us. it's just a legal procedure so we're not using that date -
A little down about people's reactions...
calchik replied to KJT1985's topic in Just venting or funnies
been there too. we live on the west side of canada and all of FI's family is in the east. so rather make one family fly to one side of the country we thought it only fair to do a DW and everyone fly somewhere. had to deal with none of FI's siblings coming cuz they can't afford it. and FI being mopey about it cuz he flew home for each of their weddings even though he could barely afford it. and his first choice of a best man also backing out cuz they ended getting pregnant and really couldn't afford it. it sucks but nothing you really can do. people are whiners. we're 3 months until our wedding and even though my sister is booked every time i talk to her she complains about how expensive it is. ppl may bitch about the cost but i have no doubt in my mind that after the trip they will have so much fun and it'll be such an awesome vacation with family and my friends that they'll think it was totally worth it. -
sooo it's been 3 weeks since i've done any hardcore wedding planning. i've been on the forum and done a few little tiny tasks but otherwise had a good break from it. i feel SO much better and more importantly excited again. the wedding doesn't feel like a burden, i'm more excited than i have been before cuz i have less than 3 months til we leave. and that feeling will just grow the closer it gets if any of you reach this point a break is definitely needed. that and express to your FI how much more support and help you want. i know we like to think we're super women and can do it all ourselves but they really are there to help us. just ordered my travel mugs, got FI to plan our honeymoon and we're booked for turkey for 2 weeks. woot! found a couple possibilities for my hot backless dress for my AHR. get to do my dress fitting at the end of this month, super excited about that. wedding planning - definitely didn't miss it and will be thrilled when it's all over but it's not my nemesis anymore thanks for the support ladies!

less than 3 months til we leave, woot! i need to get back on wedding planning since i've been taking a break for the last 3 weeks. lol. we're going for one week. ooh good to know. i didn't even consider bartering but it makes sense to try. but then we'd have to go into town to find a local tour company? i was in debate between the 2 and seemed like xcaret had more activities but if xel-ha has better snorkeling then i'd prefer that. here's some xel-ha and xcaret reviews to help anyone out. good to know we can take a cheap colectivo to xel-ha http://www.iloveplaya.com/xel-ha.php http://www.iloveplaya.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=95
