  1. Welcome! You've chosen a beautiful resort to get married at. I had a wonderful time vacationing there a couple of years ago. Happy planning!
  2. Welcome and Congratulations! You've chosen a beautiful resort to get married at.
  3. Welcome to the forum! Good luck with your planning. I found choosing the destination one of the hardest parts.

    Congrats and welcome!
  6. Hello. You've come to the right place for ideas/suggestions. Doing a wedding for under $10k is doable. I suggest contacting a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings. We were able to get a deal where every 16th person was free. So, if you have enough guests, you can take the free travel. Also, depending on the location and time of year you chose, the prices can fluctuate quite a bit. For us, we could have spent less if we chose a different destination, but we decided to go to the Riviera and spend the $ on the trip we wanted. From Victoria, BC, I've been to Dream PV for a week for $1200 pp. Many hotels also ofter free wedding packages that include almost everything you need, so once you get down there, there isn't too much else to spend money on. We're going to the Riviera during a high season for 2 weeks and staying at a 4.5 and a 5 star resort and coming from BC. As we need to connect through a major airport, it's costing us a little more. However, we are able to do 2 weeks (without a free wedding package) for just over $10k. We've splurged in a couple of areas that we didn't need to but wanted to. Good luck with your decision making. Jennifer
  7. Welcome to the forum Crystal! I'm getting married at the Grand Palladium in January. There are a few of us Grand Palladium brides on the board. Happy planning!
  8. Welcome and have fun planning! I found the hardest part of the wedding planning was choosing the place and arranging for guests to book in time to get the group discounts secured. Once we got through that stage, it's been fun!
  9. Congrats! You've picked a beautiful area to get married in and you are in the right place to search out answers to your questions. Sorry, I didn't research the Royal when we were picking our place, so I can't help you. But yes, it is possible to plan a wedding on a budget and stick to it. Some resorts are more flexible than others with what is included and not. I found the best place to start was to determine what is really important to you. Good luck with your planning!
  10. Ooops. I'm lucky it wasn't winter and that the car wasn't running.
  11. Update: Only had to wait an hour for the guy to come and break into my car. It took him a good 20 minutes to get in. In a way it's nice to know that it's not too easy to break into that way (there's always smashing the windows). I'm just glad to have my purse and keys back.
  12. Welcome! You've come to the right place to start planning
  13. So, I get home from work today and somehow manage to lock my keys in my car - can we say blond moment? My keys are sitting on the seat and my purse and wallet are out in the open on the passenger seat .... First, my fiance is out of town working right now, so I can't just get him to let me in and get the spare key to my car. I live in a condo, so the first thing I do is check to see if the strata president is home as she has access to a lock box with spare keys. Of course, she isn't home. So, I find a neighbour coming home from walking their dog, introduce myself and ask if I can borrow a phone. Luckily, she is nice and we go back to her place and lets me in. I call my parents, who have a spare key and my Dad (who is luckily at home) drives out to my place with the spare set of keys and lets me in. We search high a low for the 2nd key to my car that my fiance has and it's nowhere to be found. I'm guessing he took it with him. Why? I have no idea as he can't drive my car when he is out of town. So, the phone number for the auto assistance I have is through my dealership and the phone number is in the manual for the car, which is locked in my glove box. I stupidly thought that I would likely only ever use it if my car broke down .... So, I try calling the dealership as it's Friday night and they should be open late, right?? Nope. Luckily their answering machine gives the phone number to call. So I call that. They can't find me in the database at first. I'm speaking to a guy in Quebec I can barely understand through the thick accent. We finally get on the same page and they're dispatching a BCAA truck to assist. I hope I don't have to wait too long. Thanks for letting me vent! I thought this would be a great weekend as I was finally getting around to dress shopping and am hoping to find "the dress". It can only get better, right? Jen
  14. Good call on the sewing kits! I bought some at Dollar Giant for my kits. I love dollar stores!
  15. Welcome and congrats! We chose our resort (Grand Palladium) based on the recommendations of others that have been there and our TA that has booked quite a few weddings there! Good luck and you're in the right place to get the info to make your decisions.
  16. You ladies have been busy! I'm still a little behind on some of the planning. ToBeMitchell: don't worry, I also haven't found a dress yet. This weekend my Mom and I are going dress shopping. Wish me luck! We also haven't looked at wedding bands yet. That's a project for October. My fiance is out of town working for most of September, so we'll go once he is back and can schedule some time around his work schedule (he works shift work, and it's all over the place). We don't have clothing for the groom yet either. However, that's on hold for now and my fiance is losing weight right now and wants to buy something closer to the date when he knows what size he will be. On a positive note, my OOT bags are almost done *YAY*. I just have to buy the actual bags and one more item for them. I think the rest of the stuff I need to do (chose music, etc.) can be done over the next couple of months and I'm not worried about that stuff. Cheers, Jen
  17. Hello! I have enough planned that I'm not panicking, but I still have some minor stuff to do *lol* (like buy a dress). I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can. Perhaps some of the other Palladium brides can chime in as well: 1. The Palladium has legal and symbolic wedding packages. The legal packages starts at $1850 USD. The symbolic ones are cheaper. I have the details on another computer and will try to remember to send you the document when I'm able to. We had enough people book that we got someone free, so it covered the cost of the wedding package. 2. I haven't been to this resort before - I've never been to the Riviera - however our travel agent LOVES this resort (it's her favourite down there). Some of the other brides in the forum have been there and they wouldn't have chosen it if they didn't like it. One thing that they do now that hasn't been updated in their information is all the a la carte restaurants now are unlimited (no restrictions on the number of meals per week) and only a couple of the specialty ones require a reservation. 3. The Palladium will hold up to 3 weddings per day in busy season. Right now it looks like they are booking them only twice a day at 1pm and 4pm. 4. The wedding coordinator has been great to deal with. Her name is Rocio Recinas. She can be contacted at: [email protected]. She's probably the best person to ask more about weddings per day, etc. 5. I'm not sure about the flexibility as I haven't been looking for that yet. I'm going to go as simple as possible and I haven't wanted to make any changes yet. 6. They do not have a photographer on site, so you must use an outside one. There are no fees for bringing one in. You only need to inform them of who and what hours so they are on the list for entry at the gate. 7. A guest pass for day is $60 USD and a guest pass for evening is $60 USD. I hope that helps. Good luck with your decision on where to get married! Jennifer

  19. Thanks mexicobride 2009! I might just have to pop into the Nanaimo store this weekend. We're heading up the Lake Cowichan for the weekend anyway, so I think I'll just ask FI to detour a little north on the way up I totally did not notice that with our locations (both at home and for the wedding) and the dates. Perhaps we could meet up for a drink at the resort?? Are you guys going for the entire week (Sat to Sat)?
