  1. Sorry, I won't be too much help to you. We're getting legally married in Mexico so no legal day stuff to worry about. We also are not doing a TTD session. I don't think that Plum should be an issue. The average high tempurature in the Cancun region is January is 25-30. You make the call if that would be too hot.
  2. My FI is wearing tan pants and a Tommy Bahama shirt "Rialto" in white. He has the pants and the shirt is on order. The GM is wearing the same, except a different colour shirt. I still need to find a dress for my MOH so as soon as that is picked, we'll order the same colour for the GM shirt.
  3. We decided to just stay in a Mayan Suite in the Colonial section. Our guests are staying in standard rooms in the Colonial section, so we're kinda separated, but close. We are only there for 1 week (with our guests) and then switching to another resort for our honeymoon, so we didn't think we would use enough of the perks.
  4. We looked at staying at the Aventura Spa Palace and decided that the price would be too steep for our guests. The palace resorts are priced higher. We always knew we wanted to stay in Mexico for 2 weeks, so we decided to treat ourselves to our honeymoon there our second week and chose a resort we could all enjoy and afford for the wedding. Good Luck! Jennifer
  5. We don't need to get ours authenticated or translated. We were told to just show up with the birth certificates (long form) and passports. Good luck!
  6. We booked our guests through a TA and she arranged the group for us. It's a lot easier (from Canada) to do a pre-arranged package then book everything separately, so we went with one of those. Because of the connections of our agent with the resort and the tour company, she had them hold the space but each guest paid their own deposit. So, we have only had to pay the deposit for the 2 of us to travel. The total payment for the trip is due in November some time. As for questions 1) how flexible is the dinner time? What if photography takes longer than we planned and we show up late? 2) Is it a choice between 6pm or 7pm, or do they assign the time to you based on your ceremony time? 3) If there is more than one wedding that day, how is it decided who goes to what restaurant, etc. so there are no conflicts?
  7. Can you explain to your father that the catholic ceremony in Mexico isn't (and I don't think can be) a legal ceremony? And in order for you to be legally married, you need to do the courthouse thing? Just a thought for you to try looking into. Good luck. I know it's not an easy thing to go through. Jennifer
  8. Congrats on finally finding your perfect dress. Isn't it a great feeling? We are booking our photographer today!! I'm so excited. Now we just need to find our wedding bands and get the wedding party clothing. Jennifer
  9. We're also likely booking Tamm's Photos. We just making a final decision between Tamm's and Vanessa Vargas. So, if we also go with Tamm's, they'll have done one before Tara's and 2 before coppergoddess' wedding. We haven't done any specific planning with regards to the reception yet. I'll let you know what we hear from Rocio when we start planning. Or I'll just post it when we get back from our wedding, as we might just end up winging it down there. We're going for small and simple, so we'll see what transpires over the last couple months of planning. Jennifer
  10. Welcome Krissy and have fun planning. I'm getting married there in January 2009! Rocio has been great to deal with for planning.
  11. I saw some Clarks sandals the other day that had a mostly closed toe.
  12. We've had a pretty productive week: We may have found a shirt for FI. We went to a couple of places in town and out of everything he tried on, we really liked the Tommy Bahama shirts. Only problem is none of the places in town that carry them have any in white, they are all ivory. So, we're going to either head to Vancouver/Seattle to look in person or order on-line and use a friend's PO box in the US for delivery. They only seem to deliver in the US. At least we're getting close to getting this done. Then the only thing left will be sandles. MEC here we come! I may have also found a wedding band. I found one I like. However, we're going to contact a couple of jewelers to see if we can get one custom made. Once we have mine picked out, we'll pick out one for FI that is complementary. Next thing to really hunt down is a BM dress. As soon as we get that settled and the colour finalized (I'm waffling between a couple of colours), we can also order a shirt for the best man. We've almost decided on a photographer. We have narrowed it down to 2 and are just waiting for clarification on a couple of questions. The answers to those questions will let us chose one. By next weekend, I'm hoping (although I know it won't likely happen) that we get all of the above finalized. We're getting closer to being on track. We don't need to make any decisions about a cake other than which one we want. My wedding package at the Palladium includes a cake, so we just need to chose one when we meet with the coordinator when we get down there to finalize everything. We will likely chose a cake topper before and bring it with us, but I haven't found any I like yet. Hope everyone else is making progress. I can't believe how fast time seems to be flying. Jennifer
  13. Our guests are paying $1850+tax from Victoria for a January 17th departure. The price from Vancouver would have been about $1750+tax. We could have left on the 16th for less with a flight through Aeromexico, but we would have arrived in Cancun at 11pm and left at 7am - essentially losing 2 days of the trip with the arrival and departure times, so we opted to pay more for the extra time. I went to Dreams PV from Vancouver in September a little while back and it was only $1200 (taxes in). It's cheaper to fly to the the west coast than the east, so check that out if $$ is really an issue. Good Luck!
  14. We found pants for my fiance today. We lucked out finding some very light weight dress pants that don't really look like dress pants in the clearance section of Tip Top Taylors. They weren't as good of a deal as you got, but they were only $29.99. The good thing about these ones is he'll be able to wear them after as they'll go nice with quite a few shirts, so he'll be able to wear them out to dinner, etc. Now, we just need to luck out finding a shirt. We also started shopping for wedding bands today. We both found ones we like, but the one I found cost a little more than I was hoping to spend. Luckily we have a little bit of time to keep looking and make up our minds. Jennifer
  15. Good luck with the dress shopping. Where did you find the pants? Jennifer
  16. That sucks that you might not get to do the cocktail hour ... what about some sort of excursion with guests, like a boat ride or something?? Also, you should ask Rocio to let you know if they get a cancellation for the 4pm wedding time slot. You might get lucky if something happens to whoever has it booked now decides to cancel.
  17. Hi there! I originally wanted to book with Dreams as I've stayed at the one in PV before and know what a good reputation they have. We chose the Palladium over Dreams for 2 reasons: 1. Price for our guests. It was about $400 per person cheaper to book at the Palladium when we were getting quotes. 2. We were reluctant to go to a hotel to get married just after it opened (keep in mind we are getting married in Janaury 2009 and that wasn't flexible). I work at a hotel and was part of the opening team. I know what type of glitches they can have and that it take a good 6 months to "work out all the kinks". This shouldn't be as much of an issue for you as your wedding date is further out. Good luck with your decision. Jennifer

Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place to do some research. Choosing the resort and getting people booked was the hardest part of the planning. Good luck with your planning.
  19. Congratulations and welcome! I think you've chosen a great place to get married. I may be a little biased as we're getting married there too Happy Planning.
  20. Wow, that's pretty complicated. All we have to do is show up with our birth certificates (the long form one with parental information) and passports and the resort takes care of the rest of it for us. And that's with both of us having been divorced before. I would recommend asking your hotel wedding co-ordinator specific questions to clarify what they need. Each resort seems to handle the paperwork differently. Jennifer
  21. I'm hoping that we can make some choices this week. My fiance is coming home from work tomorrow night (he's been away for a couple of weeks), so it'll be easier to make the decisions when we can talk about it. We just need to pick a photographer and come up with a timeline of how the day/evening should run. Biggie: pick and book a photographer. We're struggling with what to do the night before and whether we should be staying in separate rooms. If we do that, we need to come up with a plan to make sure we don't see each other until 4pm the next day (when the ceremony starts). How are we going to manage this?? Have you guys decided what to do about this? Jennifer
  22. Welcome to the forum! We're going to the Aventura Spa Palace for our honeymoon
