  1. Thanks Alyssa! Hale Makai looks really nice, that's the type of spot we're looking for. I'm going to speak to a WC who also co-owns a party rental company on kauai. I imagine that'd make things easier, but not necessarily less expensive...
  2. Hey hawaii brides- So I've been perusing threads for the last several days, looking for some input from anyone who's not planning a resort wedding, but I haven't found much. So I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask... We're looking for an estate or beach house where we could have the ceremony, reception and most importantly have all of our family together for a few days, w/out using a resort. Has anyone else weighed the pros/cons of using a resort? Also, I'm thinking a WC would be a really good idea, and other sites/ mags tell you to ask a lot of questions first, but I don't really know what to ask. And what's up with all these packages they offer? How do you all feel about buying a package?

My main problem w/ budgeting this right now is the accommodations. We don't want to do it at a resort, so we're trying to find a beach house or an estate where we can stay with our family/ friends and have the ceremony & reception all in one. Kinda like a family vacation w/ wedding. I'll talk to some wc's this week, so we'll see what numbers come from that... We're trying to save $18,600... *sigh* SCARY is RIGHT!!
  4. It seems like a lot, especially if you've got someone to stay with for the majority of the time you're there. inter-island travel is really cheap. We visited 2 islands in 8 days and barely spent 5k... and we traveled from nyc... BUT I'd lluuuuvvvvv to spend 10k on a hawaii trip... I mean, besides our wedding! And Chiquita, my cats and your cats are twins! Lol!
  5. Twinkiez- We'll have the same anniversary, but I'll be married in '09! 6. Eban and I started dating in March, 1998. We moved in together in June, 1999... We just got engaged in April of this year! That's right- over 10 YEARS!! And to be honest, the timing was just right.
  7. Thank you for the nice welcome. I'm so grateful that there are so many active members who, after having their weddings, still contribute to the forum. I for one really appreciate it!
  8. Hey there, I just want to say that I am so glad I found this forum. We're planning to marry in Aug. 09 in Hawaii (probably Kauai). 14 months and I'm already feeling overwhelmed I think I've found an invaluable resource. Yay! -- Jessica (ps: I've never joined any kind of forum before, so I'm a newbie in every sense. any advice w/ forums is also welcome)
  9. Thank goodness for BDW. I'm so glad to see so many people who are going thru or have gone thru what I'm trying to go thru. Also, thank goodness for a little patience. I emailed 3 WCs in Kauai last week and they've all gotten back to me! Also we've chosen a really laid back destination, so I think this help keep me calm. Unfortunately my phone is down for the next 5 days, so Ill have to wait to make those calls. I'll be sure to post feedback about the WCs I speak with. I think I have some good leads though, and I hope others will find this useful. And thank goodness I don't need another root canal! Dental work can really set the budget back
