Hi there, we had the milk cake and it was SO delicious. Their vanilla cake is apparently dry and we had been told by others at the resort that the milk cake was a nice moist vanilla style cake and much better than their plain vanilla. So anyways, that's the one we had and it was fantastic. Some of our guests said it was the best cake they'd ever had! Have fun and congrats!

Hi Ladies! We're getting married at the GSP in a month and we're wondering if anyone's hired the carribean trio? we're contemplating hiring one for right after the ceremony as we mingle with our cocktails. Suggestions/comments please!!!! Also- does anyone have suggestions for groomsmen gifts- something more unique than a flask? LOL Altough the boys like their flasks I was hoping there was something more original out there! Thanks! Allie~

Also, with regards to the first dance- i've emailed Damarys and yes, the restaurant you can only have for 1.5 hours and she said the dance would be in the disco. Not exactly what i had in mind. So what i think i'd like to do is have the carribean trio as some live music for the ceremony (someone on a post somewhere recommended them over the mariachi) and then do the first dance right after the ceremony on the beach while everyone gathers around drinking pink drinks (hehee) and then we'll take off and do pics.... and everyone else can have til the dinner at 6 to do what they want. What do you guys think? :-)

Hi Everyone! I thought i'd join in on all this GSP talk! We're getting married there on April 2, 2009! I have had really good response from Damarys as well. Lately she HAS been replying within a few days. I have all the menus of restaurants, pics of the beach set up and gazebo set up, the 2009 price list.... and a slideshow called i think 'brides guide' and that features all the flower arrangements and a few cakes. this is the only slideshow of the cakes and on this attachment there's only 2 and from the sounds of it there's many more to pick from. We're getting married at 3:00 pm because we were told the dinners were only 6pm or 9pm... so we figured 3 left us time for the cermony, pics, and dinner at 6. We chose the gazebo set up because i want to wear my adorable shoes for the ceremony, and not be barefoot ...although the beach is beautiful too. Our photographer is TORONTO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | Destination wedding photographer Varia Lebiadzenka. My girls are wearing pink bridesmaids dresses with a 'bubble bottom'. They're pretty cute! The guys will be in the typical beige pants/white shirts... We're having the renewal of the vows and doing the legal stuff in canada for all the same reasons everyone else has had... just must easier this way. :-) If anyone would like me to send the info i have then let me know and give me your email addresses...I'll forward you EVERYTHING!! :-) Talk to you soon girls! Allie~

Hi There!! I guess at this time you're legally married!! I must say, I love the idea of going for mexican food/drinks afterwards! That's so fun! Did you guys do the legal part in your hometown and not mexico to avoid the blood work and legal stuff down there (translation etc)? We're in the same boat and are going to be doing the legal ceremony here in a very casual/informal fashion. I do feel a bit guilty as our friends/family won't be there to witness but the way i look at it is, i won't feel actually married until i'm in my dress with the aisle, the flowers, our friends, family etc etc etc. Do you agree? Should I feel bad that we're doing this without everyone? We too won't celebrate this day as our anniversary as it's merely for the paperwork. We'll be doing the 'renewal of vows/religious ceremony' in mexico so it's a) cheaper and since we'll already be married, we'll be getting all the 'honeymoon' perks!! so it actually works out great! Any comments? Thanks!! (kinda stressing about/feeling guilty). Allie~

Definitely don't give in. This is far too important and you don't want to regret 'giving in' to the resort photographer if you don't love them. You will find someone!! If this ends up being your one splurge for your wedding then so be it! Plus, i always like to rationalize hehe... think of the money you're saving by not having a typical wedding 'back home' ...you're saving so much by having a destination wedding to begin with!!!! allie~

Hi! When are you getting married exactly? Our photographer is from Ontario, Canada and she is wonderful. Her fees are $1500 and then travel expenses to get her there. If you like her and are interested in this then perhaps we can split her travel fees and that way ALL be happy! I felt the same way about a photographer as the pictures are sooo important to me and I too felt a bit hopeless about finding someone 'good enough' but not super expensive! We're going to be in the Mayan the week of March 28-April 4th 2009. Let me know if this works for you! If you're interested in maybe using her and want to split the fees with another bride if our week/location don't happen to be the same as ours! And she does destination weddings ALL THE TIME so is experienced and knows all the 'hot spots' for pictures too.... and she does 'trash the dress' photo sessions as well. Let me know! Allie~

Decorating question... *updated with pics*
allie replied to TammyB's topic in Martha Stewart Wannabees!
Hello! We don't actually have anything above our bed because our headboard is a bit higher so we don't need anything above it...or it would probably look like it's too high... I've seen pictures above the bed, shelves with candles... Have you decided on anything yet? Allie~ -
Hi Everyone, We're getting married at the Grand Sunset Princess April 2009!! The resort looks gorgeous and we're hoping everything will be beautiful... which most likely it will be! Anyone else getting married there? Or seen a wedding take place there? Also, if anyone else is getting married in the Mayan the week of March 28-April 4, 2009 and need a photographer, we're shipping ours down with us so if you need one, we can share the travel costs (to get her there) and all be happy!! Thanks for any info you have! Allie~

Hi Guys, We too are getting married there, but in April 2009. We know some people that got married there a few months ago and they did show us pictures. I don't have them to send to you but what I can tell you is the pictures looked nice however it depends on your style- like if you want the photojournalistic/candid type shots...this wasn't the style of the photographer that at least they used. The pictures for us are the most important thing...and we really wanted very unique photos and real contemporary looking ones so we're actually bringing a photographer with us from Canada- Ontario in fact. I wish i could send you some pictures for you to see but i'd suggest asking the resort if they can forward you some examples? (if you haven't done so already :-) Take Care, Allie~

Hi there, Don't worry- you don't need to speak spanish! We were there 2 yrs ago and made out fine with only speaking english. We're getting married in the mayan the first week of April/09... SO looking forward to it! Do you need a photographer? I found an awesome one and she's coming from Canada to the photography in the Mayan for our wedding. Perhaps we could 'share' her as the wedding is only 2 days worth of events out of the 7. :-)

Hi There, the Grand Sunset Princess is a beautiful modern resort that just opened Jan 2008. Google it and look at the pics on the 'hotels.bookit.com' site as the site for the resort is underdeveloped so you won't be able to more than 4 pictures. We would love to get married Thanksgiving weekend so for now we are targeting Nov 2008 but that may change depending upon availibility of location. I'd appreciate any advice on reasonably priced, nice, and modern hotels in the Mexican Riviera - I'm especially curious about how the all-inclusive places work with weddings (since we will be providing dinners on at least 2 nights - for rehearsal and wedding) so any thoughts on that would be much much appreciated!!!
