  1. Thanks for the info sunshinekc08. That is a good idea to stay at the Colonial/Tropical and then upgrade to the palace for your wedding and rest of stay. Did you feel there was a big difference between the two hotels? Do you have different options for your wedding ceremony and dinner if you stay at the Palace. I think I want my ceremony on the beach and my dinner in one of the outdoor grills. I'd love to see pictures and hear more. Thanks!
  2. Smartinez, which travel agent did you go with? I am in MN too and have been shopping for prices. Thanks!
  3. pepsibabi- Yes, I already put my date on hold for January 25, 2010. I did it a few weeks ago. She told me I had until 5 months before my wedding to give her my booking information, but other places I've read two. So maybe this has change. I haven't book anything yet, as in flight or hotel. I think the earliest I can start looking for prices would be around March. I haven't asked too many questions because they seem to give pretty vague answers. She told me she would contact me with the new 2010 prices when she gets them, I'm assuming they will go up some. I'm a little confused about the dinners, So, is the surf n turf still available with the oceans sceants or under the stars? Thanks! For those of you that have been there, would you recommend a reception in the grill? Thanks!
  4. I heard that the menu options changed and they no longer offer surf and turf. Does anyone know if this is true and what the new options are? Thanks!
  5. Hi, I'm getting married Jan 2010. I don't feel like there's much to do in advance besides reserve your date asap. I don't think the WCs start contacting you until closer to your date.
  6. This info is great, thanks! Are the chair bows for the ceremony and reception included? Or are these extra? Also, what colors do they have them in? Thank you!
  7. Thanks for posting the pics, they look great! Do you happen to have any of the open air grills? I am wondering which one I should have my reception in. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the info. I would also like to have dinner in a grill instead of on the beach. Did you get a dj or anything? Do you know if you can just hook up an ipod? We don't want to pay for a dj because we are having a reception at home with a dj. But it would be nice to have some music and do some dancing. What grill did you eat in? Are some nicer than others? I think we'll have around 50-60 people. Did you have the spa do your hair? How was it? I'm a little nervous about the hair part. Thanks!!
  9. Hi, My WC is Gabriela. She takes about week to get back to me but eventually answers most of my questions. Smartinez, Congrats on your wedding! It's good to see someone from MN on here! Do you have a review posted of your wedding I can read? I would love to see pics also! Which section of the resort did you stay at? Where did you have your dinner? Thank you!
  10. Also, what is this I hear about the dolphin swim? Does anyone have more info on this? Thank you!
  11. I am so sorry to hear you didn't have the best experience! That worries me. If you had to do it again would you go somewhere else? I would love to see pics. Where was your dinner? We want details! Gabriela confirmed my date: January 25, 2010!
  12. Hi, I am getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace! The WCs are super busy but will get back to you eventually. I've heard they always pull through in the end though. Check out the Barcleo Maya Palace page, it has some good info. Good luck and congrats!
  13. OK, I've officially decided on the Palace! Working on getting my date reserved, can't wait! Thanks for all the info!
  14. Hi Everyone, I was orginally thinking of having my wedding at the Bahia Principe, now I'm leaning more towards the palace. If anyone has any pictures of the grilles I would love to see them too. Thanks!
  15. Hi, I'm debating between the Barcelo Palace and Bahia Principe Akumal. I would love to see any pictures you have. Have a great time!
  16. Sorry, I have one more question. It looks like your dancing in your pictures, did you rent the DJ for a private reception or is that at the disco? Thanks!
  17. Congrats! Gorgeous pictures! I can't wait to see the professional ones. I have lots of questions for you. It sounded like you had the legal ceremony, right? If so, how was the officiant? Were you allowed to write your own vows and add in extra things such as sand ceremony, readings, etc? Did the coordinator translate, how was that? Also, how was the dinner? We want details! Thanks so much for your help. I'm glad everything went well.
  18. Does anyone know if it's possible to have a private reception at a restaurant? And if so how much does it cost? I've tried e-mailing but haven't heard a response. I'm having my wedding and January and am worried it will be too cold and windy by the pool. Has anyone been there in January? How was the weather? Thanks!
  19. JoLo or Carrie, would you be able to send me pictures of flowers and arches too? My e-mail is [email protected]. Thank you!!
  20. That's great they include all that..it looks really nice! How long did you have your DJ for? Is it $150 per hour? Thanks!
  21. Tlseege, you had a pool reception at Akumal, right? Did they charge extra for the chair covers and table clothes for the set up, or were those included? Does anyone know how long the dinner/reception goes if you have dinner in a restaurant versus the outside pool reception? Do they provide a stereo to hook an ipod up to or is that extra? Can you bring your own i pod dock to play music? Thanks for the help!
  22. Hi Everyone, I am debating between Barcelo Tropical/Colonial or the Bahia Principe Akumal. Do any of you have pictures of the banquet rooms? Are they nice? Do you know how much extra it is for a cocktail hour after the ceremony and before dinner? Thanks for your help!
