  1. My dress will hopefully be changed into a christening gown shortly. I have taken my dress to 3 different seamstresses for quotes and ideas on how they would do this. All quotes were different ranging from $250. to $350. WHOLLY SNIKES!!! My dress has tons of beading for where they would need to cut and get the larger pieces. My only reasoning for not getting it done yet is that all the work on my dress is flowers and in light blue. What if we end up with another boy?? I know thats stilly... but Jay wasn't keen on the idea after he saw the seamstresses patterns laid on my dress... the whole thing would be a chiffon and blue flower gown. Do ya think a bit too girly?? KWIM....
  2. Congrats and welcome to the forum from another past Jamaican bride! BDW is the perfect place to find out all things DW and Jamaica. Have fun!! Oh and I totally agree with Becks... get some wine and go to town!!!
  3. Hey Katelyn, I think if you are looking for a fun family/group expierence at any age with the amount of people you will be having you will be totally fine. Yes, I do think Beaches is a kids resort, BUT at the same time... we saw many many people older and younger with no kids in tow. The resort is large and they have more than enough to do at any age. The resort is broken up pretty well with the layout to have all kids stuff in one section. Across the street with the sports complex... again endless possabilities too. Maybe they were attending weddings or family reunions and such but they looked to be having a great time. In most cases you have 2 choices - Family/Group vacations and Couple/Romantic vacations. Beaches/Sandals is a big name in travel and some people are just comfortable going with something they see on TV and in print all the time. I wouldn't reget going to Beaches at all ... it like in prob every post above was amazing! LOL
  4. This is the article I read up on ... It's very interesting and suggests the current state of Americans being able to enter the country. Can Cuba Cope With an Onslaught of Americans? - MSN Travel Articles
  5. Julie you just beat me to it... LOL.... I was just reading this and was wondering what everyone else thought since we have alot of Canadian brides who have gotten married in Cuba with amazing pictures to boot who love the country. As for me, I would love to be able to go. It would be as if time stood still and back to a day in the US maybe late 50's era. Getting rid of all modern technologies, the onslot and over crowding of vehicles and such. I think a much simpler time. A place to check out the beauty before it's gone to everything commercialized. I would go as soon as my passport let me. For the article I read, I guess I would be in the majority of people wanting to see the country. But with that said .. and only having enough rooms on the entire island like say Detroit, I would be waiting a long time or driven up with high costs in going as without the US wanting to come currently they are at a 60 to 80% capacity. It's always something to think about. The ban has been long over due!
  6. Hi and congrats for picking Sandals. I was a Beaches Negril bride, so I can give you an idea as they are sister properties and the packages are the same for both. For us we did not go with the PB packages as they seemed too "busy" for us. We waited till we got down to Jamaica to decide on what we wanted once we had a final on where we wanted to marry on the resort. The Jamaican WC are wonderful and work with you on every detail. I for instance, was not impressed with the flower book they had for me to choose from... I wanted real "local" tropical flowers.. it is a DW afterall. So when we met with them the day after we arrived, I expressed this and immediately they called the florist (which is Tia Flora) and we had a little chat about what I was thinking and the colors I was looking for. They asked about my dress and BM dress colors, and then even what the guys were wearing. I left it all up to them to come up with something for me. They were amazing!!! I got to see the final product when the WC came to pick me up. Also, when I built my own flower package.. I went with the major pieces 1 for the top and 2 for the sides and they all blended in nicely with my bouquet. Good thing about picking the items I did.. they can be transfered easily to your cocktail reception and dinner table as centerpieces as they are flat on the back. (money saver) The few things I did ask the Miami WC about and ordered before we got to Jamaica was chair covers and sashes, and reserving my cocktail reception time. One thing that really showed me that they knew what they were doing was, we had a hurricane on the day of the wedding... so no beach ceremony for me. We ended up at the Gazebo for the ceremony which was fine with me.. but since I was not able to use the Tiki Hut for the cocktail reception they actually closed off one of the raised pool decks and decorated wonderfully with a million palm frons and flowers (which I did not pay for) with candles and tiki lights. This was all done in 3 hrs time. When they showed me the pool deck it was empty and I couldn't really imagine it at all but it was AMAZING. If something were to arise... they WILL make sure everything is perfect and do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy. Hope this helps! K I am done with the book .. but if you have any other questions just let me know. Also check out my photos below to give you an idea of the day and flowers and such.
  7. Congrats Kayte!!! Your time is here!!!! Hope today is an amazingly wonderful day for you and Craig. Oh, and I checked the weather 81 degrees and sunny!!! Can't wait for for all the pictures. See you in 2 weeks. Welcome to the new Mrs Club!
  8. This was our song too.... however we planned on being more elaborate with the dance... but me being me .. just wanted to snuggle and sway. I was a blubbering fool as he sang his own little verson of it to me. 8o)
  9. Hey Lisa.. that is awesome!!! YAY for getting a DIY done. AC Moore?? Don't tell anyone that as I would have never guessed. Soooo I guess you will be busy tonight working on the rest?? LOL
  10. Congrats Lisa and welcome to the forum.... Jamaica was truely amazing for us ... you will have such an awesome time!!! That is why we chose with Nov.. but even then I guess you can't stray from the hurricanes.. we got Paloma. I wouldn't change it for the world.. if you can survive a hurricane on your day then you can handle ANYTHING!
  11. Congrats and welcome to the forum Amarys! Jamaica is amazing you will have a fab time!!!!
  12. Hey Christie, Actually bringing your own music is really easy. When you meet with the WC down JA after you arrive.... in the wedding book, you have a page just for this. You will be able to fill out exactly what you want for where. They also have blank slots if you want to add extra songs for certain things. I just ended up putting down the numbers next to along with the names of the songs as I had made a sleeve for my disk. (this way any thought of messing up wouldnt happen) Yes the sound system is there as they need it for your guests to hear you and the minster for your vows. Jay was rigged with a mic for both of us. Hope this helps!
  13. ME OOOHHHH MY MELISSA!!!! PERFECT in like every single way!! I am sooo happy that you found the dress you LUV! It's an amazing dress and wow!!
  14. Oh then you won't have to worry about anything then. Nikki and Andrea (onsite WC's) are AMAZING!! They will help you out with everything you will need if anything at all. Avia... oh my ... she is the wedding captian and will be there for everything about your day, your day after breakfast in room.. you name it.. we loved her to death, well our whole family loved her. One thing to recomend a million times over... private dinner on the beach about 630ish for June, the purple skies are wonderful along with the dinner atmosphere.
  15. No they don't require, but I wanted to make sure I was happy with the outcome beforehand. Then everything changed with the hurricane anyway.. so different hair on the day of the wedding anyway. Jay's grandma bought the package for me(she couldn't come to Jamaica), and told me about it at my shower. Prob a better idea. Sooo what are you thinking of Amber?? LOL.. she will be interesting that is for sure!
  16. Yes, I used the Red Lane Spa for all my stuff. Pedi, Mani, Hair and make up. I paid for the bridal package and when we got down to Jamaica, Jay even got a mani and pedi too .. odd but he thought that it would prob be the only time he would ever have it done. The Hair trial and makeup session is the day before along with the mani and pedi... I will admit this took 6HRS!!! After my mani and pedi I swear my lady was exhuasted and took forever in my trial. I was bummed because we had plans for an offsite dinner that night, we ended up being late for our own party. One thing I would suggest is that maybe schedule the mani and pedi at a different time (1st thing AM) and then your hair trial (afternoon), this way it breaks up the time. I loved what they did and how wonderful the expierence was .. but the time thing really got to me. Espec when my BM had the same done and she was done more than an hr before me. Keep asking!
  17. Couples resorts are awesome!!! You are actually doing what we did. Beaches for the wedding and then Couples for the HM. What an expierence... totally different resorts with different feels. Couples resorts are soooo relaxed and romantic if that is what you are going for.

  23. I wouldn't worry as it is a Sandals Resort. They are all beautiful and make sure everything is perfect for you. Our Sandals Selects Mag came the other day and had a great review about the SRC and the offerings. I will see if I can find that for you online. Have you checked in with Trip Advisor and Hotels.com for some reviews? This was helpful for me as I was the first Beaches Negril bride here to the forum and needed to outsource help from other websites in finding girls that had been married there.
