  1. Welcome to the forum! There are so many of us tying the knot in Jamaica!
  2. Thanks for your input ladies! I think we will go with the bonfire...what's another $150 at this point LOL.. And its the first wedding-related thing that FH has shown any interest in!!
  3. When I booked the Seagrape for my after-dinner reception, the WC asked me if I would like a bonfire on the beach. FH really likes the idea, I think everyone will end up smelling like smoke! I was wondering if anyone had a bonfire at their beach reception or is considering having one? Nice idea or waste of money? Thoughts?? I know I saw photos on BDW of a bonfire at ROR but I can't seem to find them again.
  4. Welcome! Nice to have another ROR bride!

We don't pronounce the letter h at the beginning of words, most words automatically have an added s at the end, and there are no g's at the end of anything lol Just look on google for newfie slang and you'll see what I mean HAHA I've lived in Newfoundland my entire life and I've NEVER heard of a yaffle or a chummyjigger. Funny! I do pronounce all my "h"s and I don't add extra "s"s but you are correct, a lot of Newfoundlanders do speak that way! Good ol' Newfanese!!! Nice to see another Newfoundlander on the forum!
  6. Our guests are paying between 2200 and 2600 per person (depending on where in Canada they are flying out of) for seven nights at a five star all inclusive. A lot of us are staying for an extra week which only adds about 1000 pp though.
  7. Congratulations and welcome to the forum!
  8. You should consider another TA...As others have already mentioned, most TAs seem to get their commissions from the suppliers/wholesalers/resorts etc.
  9. Welcome to the forum!! You will get lots of help here. Happy planning!
  10. Wow, that is crazy. Thank god they refunded your money! I envy your calm attitude- I don't think I would feel quite the same way! It's great that you got a nice trip with your family despite the hurricane screwing up your plans.
  11. Thanks JustUsTwo, you have been a huge help, you answered so many of my questions about how the wedding dinner will work in regards to menu.
  12. I don't think we are going to have an "official" father daughter dance- having people watch me dance for even one song is more than I can handle! But I will make a point to dance with my dad during "Have I Told You Lately" by Rod Stewart. He is a huge Rod Stewart fan, and I was when I was a little girl, and he loved that.

We finally, finally, finally decided yesterday on Forever by Ben Harper. It took a while as both of us are generally rock fans. Mike's first suggestion was "Stinkfist" by Tool- yah, right!!! Some others we considered were Ben Folds - The Luckiest I'll Back You Up - Dave Matthews Band If Not for You - Bob Dylan In My Life - Beatles Harvest Moon - Pearl Jam's version
  14. Thanks a lot! You pictures are very helpful. That is not AT ALL how I imagined the Seagrape.

I'm having my reception at the Seagrape and I have no idea what to expect! Is it just a bar that you walk up to on the beach or can you physically go inside? Everyone here is so helpful- thanks for making planning so much easier
  16. Welcome to another Jamaican bride!
  17. My TA tried to book my 03/09 reception this past July and was told by someone (maybe Chandlynn but I'm not sure) that the resort had a policy and we couldn't book until two months before the wedding. I explained to my TA that I knew for a fact that others (many whose wedding dates were after mine) had been able to book theirs. She (nicely) pointed this out to whoever she was in contact with at the resort and I was able to confirm the Mammee Bay and the Seagrape.
  18. Hi everyone My name is Charlene and I am getting married at the Riu Ocho Rios on March 11, 2009. Can't wait!!
