  1. Yes, we are carrying the tropical colors through to the wedding. My inspiration is the tropical blooms of that part of Florida, like orchids, bougainvillea, poinciana, hibiscus etc. Also citrus fruit. There is an awesome layout in the latest Martha Stewart Weddings magazine that has a similar palette. Click on the one that says Tropical Punch. It's funny-- my FI is not opposed to the pink and mango. His art-student self just wants to apply some color theory to our scheme, and add something complementary. My heart is definitely pulling for the brighter scheme. I know it's not for everyone, but I love color. I did hear back from my mom-- she likes the fuschia and mango ones too.
  2. DreaW you and I have the same exact hair texture! Except I think yours is prettier than mine . I talked to my regular hairstylist (not rich enough to fly her in, hehe) and she recommended having it blown out and rolled in big rollers, then put into a simple low bun with a side part. That way, it'll have some texture but not be crazy out of control in the wind/heat/humidity. I plan to wear a flower in my hair (either artificial or real...haven't decided yet) but no veil.
  3. Thanks! I am trying to figure out the best way to do that-- so I can appease all sides, LOL. (Is it me, or is the wedding planning process all about compromises?)
  4. Hello ladies! My mom has graciously offered to DIY our invites, and we're trying to decide on the color scheme. For the wedding itself, we want to do hot pink, mango and lime. We're using cardstock and pockets from Cards and Pockets. I personally love the hot pink and mango ones, but FI thinks there should be a complementary color (like the green) in there. We could add a line green ribbon-- maybe organza, or grosgrain? My mom likes both-- she thinks that the blue and sand colors are more beachy though. Your thoughts? FYI there will be a real invitation at some point-- this is just to get an idea of the colors, materials, fonts etc.
  5. Eh, not worth the $500 IMO. You could get a college student to make you a nice website for way less, and it wouldn't have advertising for the company all over it. It uses way too much Flash anyhow-- almost a corporate feel to it, you know. Fi hasn't put our website together yet but I'm pretty sure he's going to host it on a server he already pays for, so no extra costs for us.
  6. They are gorgeous! I have a few tiny nitpicks with the wording-- I would change the first line to ". . .share in our lives with" instead of by. Also, I wouldn't capitalize Together, since it's part of a sentence.
  7. This thread is cracking me up! Before I got my dress, I tried to fool FI by showing him photos of dresses with giant butt bows and huuuuuuge, OTT ballgowns. He knew I was joking though, because we both do that all the time.
  8. This is a toughie-- #1 and #2 are both gorgeous! I agree that #3 is too Hollywood. Have you seen Jenny Packham's designs? She does a lot of gowns from the era you're looking for.
  9. I don't have any pics, but both of the weddings I've been in let us wear our own shoes, and it was fine. We all were able to put our own spin on things and not have to buy shoes that were uncomfortable or not our style.
  10. I'm also a fuschia bride-- my colors are hot pink, orange and lime. I haven't narrowed the exact shades down yet but tropical brights are definitely what I'm going for. I'm not having any attendants so I'm planning for the colors to come out in the florals, linens and stationery. I really like orchids, mini callas and lilies-- may use some combo for the bouquet. Also thinking about using limes and kumquats as filler in arrangements.
  11. I love the tri-folds, the palm tree motif and the tear-off calendar! Adorable! And I know what you mean about DIY-- I just don't have the time or skills to do really complex projects like invites. So luckily my mom said that she'd do them for me! I think FI and I will handle the save-the-dates on our own, since they're basically going to be picture postcards, but it is a real weight lifted to know that my mom is pitching in. (Not to brag, but she is awesome! She already sent me some test proofs and they look great.)
  12. I'm glad you went with #1-- it was my favorite! Of course you look fantastic in all of them.
  13. Wow, incredible dress-- and it looks fabulous on you! Have a wonderful week leading up to your day!
  14. Wow, your dress is smashing! A perfect fit in every way.
  15. They are pretty! I would suggest trying on a lot of different styles when you go-- even if you think you don't like it on the hanger. I found that what looked good on me IRL was totally different than what I had envisioned myself wearing. Take photos & show us when you get back .
  16. You are going to be a radiant bride! I think everything will work well together.
  17. Ooh, those are pretty, kellywinter1! Make sure to take pictures for us when you try on so we can see for ourselves .
  18. They are both pretty, flattering dresses but you don't sound excited about either of them. I would keep looking-- you have plenty of time!
