February 2010 brides
*Krista* replied to shellk's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
By the way Sue, you crack me up - Canadian sentences end with hey...lol...they sure do! Or eh, I think that's an east/west difference. I noticed my relatives out east (I was born in Newfoundland, raised in Toronto), say hey? or right?, but out west, we say eh?....lol... I lived in Korea for 3 years, and I met people from all over the world, and it's really interesting to see how different we talk. It's true that we all have "accents"! My favourite people to talk to were from the UK or Australia...sexy accents and unique words/sayings! -

This site has been so great...there is sooooo much to read. Congrats on your upcoming wedding and thank you again! tt I'm glad to hear that you have chosen Dreams Tulum! I've heard lots of wonderful things about the resort, so it doesn't surprise me that you liked it when you visited. I'm thinking about doing my reception at the dolphin pool area as well, or beach, I can't decide. I like the idea of my feet in the sand while I'm dancing, however, it may not be so practical. You will definitely find lots of information on here! If you have any specific questions you can't find an answer to, just post them, and there are lots of upcoming/previous brides who can help you out! Good luck with your planning!

A little about myself so you girls don't feel like you're chatting with a perfect stranger: I got engaged in February of this year in Australia while my FI and I were on vacation. Our wedding is at the Occidental Grand Xcaret near Playa del Carmen on Feb. 16. We're actually doing a symbolic ceremony, as we wanted to get all the legal stuff out of the way here in Canada (much less stressful). Right now, it looks like we'll have around 30 guests. We're keeping everything pretty low-key; that's that way we prefer it. I'll have to figure out how to post a pic of my dress. It's very beach-appropriate, I think; something I envisioned from the get-go. Great to be part of this group! Welcome Teshy1! Today's weather -20 in Sask seems balmy too!! I heard that the only place colder than Edmonton this past weekend, was Siberia!! YIKES! -58.4 - WHAT IS THAT? I don't think things can live in that temperature, but apparently we do! lol.... If you have your dress posted to a website like photobucket, etc. you can just copy and paste the link into the reply box and it will post a link and/or the actual picture. Maybe there is a better way that someone will suggest, that's just how I know how to do it. Nice to meet you! -

Hi ladies! How is everyone today? Sue - that is a wonderful story - I'm glad she didn't tell him, would have caused more humiliation in the end...you are right, some things are better unsaid Teneil and Timberly - have fun in VEGAS! WHOOP!! I wish I could be there! And have fun at your boudouir shoot Timberly - You'll be beautiful! Shells - can wait to see a sneak peek of your shoot! Brooke - I'm sorry your kitty's paw is hurting... I hope he gets better soon! As a side note, I bought one of those Christmasy collars for my cat last night...she didn't look too impressed when I put it on, but it's still on! It's red and fluffy and has a jingle bell shaped like a goldfish with fake diamonds - it's so adorable!! Chris - Have fun in BC! And I definitely think the dress is worse than the shoes! Who wears that dress?? or those shoes!! AWFUL! Maybe if your wedding was a "themed" wedding like halloween, and the bride was going as a stripper?? LOL Krista - great idea for the room number/guest list! that will definitely help everyone!! I want to use some of these smilies - here's my smily for today because I'm feeling strong today! -
Thanks for the info herefishie and sherib!! I appreciate it! I have contacted lots of TA's now, so hopefully one of them will be able to help me!

During the reception, the waiters are great about getting drinks, although we had lots of people walk to the bar to take shots, etc. That's why I thought the Dolphin pool area worked out the best of all the locations I had seen- it was accessible to bar, bathrooms, etc. I hope this helps you out! Thanks for the awesome info! And the information about the $150 fee for setup. That is very helpful! It's good to know that we can bring all our extras and have them set up for a small fee!

Have you already bought it?? Yes I was able to buy it from a shop in California that was having a sample sale. It's still in mint condition, and it's my exact size, and due to the wonderful corset back, I don't have to have any alterations, except taking up the bottom a little (I'm 5'3...). Because of the sale, I was able to get it for about 1/3 of the price of what I would have paid in a shop here. I'm very happy with it!! Have you found a gown that fits your shape? -

I think she is actually in Regina too. Good luck! Hi Sheri! Thanks for the suggestion. How did you get ahold of her, because I tried by clicking on the link at the top of the forum, and I heard from Tammy, who said she would put me in touch with a Canadian agent, however, I haven't heard anything from anyone yet. It's becoming frustrating quickly! I'm trying another TA here in Regina, but of course I want to have the best rates as possible for my guests, as they are paying to come to my wedding.

This is my dress. I know it's big, but I tried a few destination dresses, and none seemed right. I've always been a princess dress kinda girl, so even if I'm hot, I'm okay with that! Lol...This is my first time posting a picture, so I hope it works! Parisia - by Maggie Sottero -

Anything over 20 I have to pay per head for food, champagne, extra chairs at the ceremony, extra cake, etc. That seems silly to me because they are already paying to be at an all-inclusive. So I'm trying to keep around the 20 mark. Also I like having a very small intimate ceremony and reception so the 20 cap works for me! -

I too had to deal with this problem of people inviting themselves. We also had to tell our single guests that they couldn't just "bring" someone, as our package only has room for 20 guests. Usually when you explain that you only have room for 20, and that you aren't even inviting children who are related to you (as was my case), because of the lack of room, they understand. I let my guests know that they are more than welcome to bring their children/friends, etc, to the resort, and they can join us for drinks afterward, but the wedding is only for the 20 invited. It's hard but the way I see it, it's your day, and so you should have people you really care about around you. When I was sending my invites, I would pose this question to myself - Is this one of my top 20 friends and family? If the answer was yes, then they got an invite. -

Hi everyone! I'm a Dreams Tulum bride - July 10, 2010. I just found this thread and there's lots of good information on here! I'm only 6 months out, and right now I'm struggling with TA's and getting packages booked. I've been trying for about 2 months now, and it's not going so well! YIKES! Anyway, once that's taken care of, it will be smooth sailing - I hope!
