Hey Ladies, I have read that many of you are looking for photographer options (aside from those on the resort) I thought it would be best to post a thread for new brides as an FYI! When my FI and I were in Cuba for our "research" trip (February 200 we were at the wine cave in Parc Josone, along with a table full of Canadian's (about 12). FI struck up a conversation with them and learned that they weren't all canadian, 3 of them were Cuban. The Canadians had been life long friends with the Cubans. FI iterated to them that we were interested in seeing Havana. At this point one of the Canadians (Rob) piped up and said that we should rent a car and have his Cuban friend Roly (a Cuban professional photographer and videographer) take us. We chatted and drank with this crowd for the balance of the evening. On Sunday of our vacay, we went to Havana with met with roly and he offered us an "early wedding present", pictures of the two of us all over Havana! (I also think he was trying to sell his services for our wedding). Later the same day he shared with us a CD of photos and videos from weddings he had previously shot. They were really quite good. If you wanna see examples of Roly's work, check out our wed-site Chad & Amy - wedding website by mywedding.com - in the photo gallery of our travels - photos #8 and #9 were taken by Roly. I recently looked into roly's prices for another girl on another board and below is the response I received from roly's daughter Maureen. ...This is a message from my father: --------Hi my friend!!! I´m sorry I have not be able to check my email. Did you print the pictures of Havana tour? The price of the video is 200 CUC and it includes 2 DVD in the color system that you prefer. The photo 5 X 7 inches are 3 CUC each plus a free copy in CD if they buy 60 or more. I need to know the hotel because some of them have contract with diferent companies and use their own personal. All the best, roly. ------------- cell phone of my father is 52950757, if they want to call him from Varadero. So essentially the price for a CD of your wedding photos - with 60 print outs is $180 and the video is $200 - by format he means he'll format it for the country you are from - where some countries use a different DVD format. I would strongly suggest calling him - I have the email address for his daughter and for Roly, but they have a hard time accessing the internet. He really does do nice work - and for a very good price, you'll be hard pressed to get that offer at the hotel. Plus I know that the quality is good. We are taking our own photographer for our wedding and roly, his daughter Maureen, her husband Yasser and their new baby (due Sept.) will be joining us our wedding as our guests. If anyone requires further info or is interested in seeing MORE pictures from our day in Havana with roly, PM me. I would love to see him receive more business from Canadians! He is a great guy and a wonderful friend. Ciao !

To do these I am using publisher - from microsoft word - the graphics are from all over the place and I am trying not to duplicate the designs - unless specifically requested. Here are some that I am really proud of.... inspired by the couples resorts logo upon request bride was looking for something different with starfish bride wanted to copy mine, but I had difficulty doing that as mine is from my family crest, so this was inspired by mine! love the way this one came out, it is just so fun... i am really enjoying helping with this and cannot wait to see how everyone uses them in their planning etc.

I would definately wear my wedding dress again!!! Isn't that the upside of being a DW bride? You get to wear your dress 3 times!!!! once on DW once for TTD once for AHR?

Could work stop my DW from happening?

Wow... i am just getting caught up on this now.... holy cow Steph... that is crazy your employer is a jack@$$ wow... I am glad to hear your surgery went well. I hope you are well on your road to recovery. -
we had to deposit for half of the number of people that we foresaw going on our trip and the other half of the seats were held by the tour operator. we deposited for 40 and the tour operator (air canada) held 40 - thus we have 80 seats at the best price I've ever seen. It cost us up front, but at the end of the day our guests are getting a killer deal!

I really like #1 - but i think it is fantastic if you do the hot pink shoe!!!! I voted for #1, but if the hot pink shoe is on the docket, DO IT GIRL! -
Ok... bottom line - I can't leave this up to my mom. My mom really is her ONLY friend - and the woman is a greiving widow (for ten years), and is unstable, she really relies on my mom - and as much as she is a pain in the @, she is still human and telling her to take a hike really isn't an option. Today I had to address the situation, and I called her. It went fairly well, but it isn't over. Me: Hey Anne, I am calling to discuss the booking situation we have gotten ourselves into. As mum may have told you, we have booked enough space for our family and it is on reserve. Space for friends has been made available, but there is no friend space left. My TA is working closely with the tour operator to try and obtain more space, but this has proved to be challenging. Anne: Well, I completely understand - family comes first, and I would not want any of your family left behind on account of my presence there. You know I'd love to be there, but if it isn't in the cards I understand - If there is a family member on the wait list behind me, please let them have my space - I'll pray for you the day of the wedding. Me: Thanks for all your understanding Anne, I hope to get this worked out - Talk soon. OMG --- I feel like a bag of doggie doo doo - after talking to her I almost wanted her there... wow this is really not in her character to be so understanding. I hope that this feeling echos into the days to come. I called my mom to let her know that the situation may be diverted and she is thrilled that there is no bloodshed.

this is the problem... Anne is single, and is going alone... and she knows no one else that coming. she is a long time friend of my mom's and my mom really is her only friend. I know it is hard on my mom and she doesn't want to upset her. this is the challenge. I on the other hand, feel like I CAN be the heavy and tell her something... I like the idea of suggesting she only stay for a week... or not at all... :S

Finalized Guest List...Oops...

Ok Ladies, I really need all of you out there to lend an ear and some thoughts. I'll try not to ramble... When we did our guest list for the wedding FI and I created ours, and asked our parents to do the same. This process was quite smooth. When I reviewed my mother's list, I questioned the fact that she had added a long time friend of hers 'Anne' to the list. I questioned her because Anne is notoriously a pain in the keister, and is unstable. My mother avoids her on many occasions. However, my mother is just too nice and lets Anne walk all over her - out of guilt/sadness toward the fact that 10 years ago Anne suddenly lost her husband to cancer. Anne drives our whole family nuts, and no one really likes to put up with her - with the exception of my mom. Recently Anne and my mother had a bit of a falling out over the amount of attention my mother gives to her. Silly really, these are older, retired, mature women. But of course, my mom gave in and they are back on the up and up... My mom said she tried to talk to Anne and tell her not to come. My mom detailed that she'll be really busy for the first week, with the wedding - and won't have much time to spend with Anne - to that Anne replied "we'll have lots of time in our second week there!" - My mom freaked - she and my dad are celebrating their 35 wedding anniversary and are planning to spend that week together! - she further explained that to Anne, who replied - "that sounds great, are we going to go to Havana?" AHHHHHH My mother then came to me and asked that we call the TA and request to her that she does not allow Anne to book for our wedding in Cuba. OK this is where it gets complicated. TA says that she has difficulty in doing this - and I COMPLETELY understand this, but she says we'll monitor the situation, and she'll give me the heads up if Anne tries to book... Low and behold - ANNE CALLED THE TA Looking to book for 2 weeks! WOW! So, the TA called me and said that I really had to deal with it on my end, and that she would try to avoid Anne - but she needs to call her back to maintain her own professionalism (which I completely understand) But I need to divert her booking. I just got off the phone with my mom, and she is adamant that Anne not come to Cuba - and that she'll single handedly ruin thier 35 wedding anniversary celebrations, and not to mention possibly MY wedding. So.. the ball is in my court, and I need to do something.... I just don't know what that is..... HELP!

Update: Jackson's staples have been removed and he is healing nicely! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR KIND WORDS AND THOUGHTS. As for 'D' and I - we haven't really talked since - but simply because of scheduling. We are still friends, and at this time she has chosen NOT to put down her dog (Sophie). I am really happy about that because I really didn't want that guilt on my shoulders. I really hope that D can keep Sophie undercontrol around other dogs, and that no one else needs to go through this. If this were to happen again, the next dog owner may not be so understanding. Especially where vet bills are concerned. Thanks again for letting me vent and for all of your support! /A.
