What types of flowers do u get to choose from?
Amarillis replied to lanakbanana's topic in Cuba Weddings
Ash, I feel like you may have a better selection in the summer, the thing is that in JANUARY (when I got married) it is their winter there too, so most plants are dormant -- thus i went the fake route. Your WC at the Melia should be better able to give you an idea! Good Luck! -
Welcome back MRS!!!!!!!! Congrats!!

Yeppers!!! I brought mine from home - I had one suitcase dedicated to the transportation of all my flowers. They were made by Bridal Blooms by Laura - she is out of Oakville. The entire transaction was done through email and telephone. She was FANTASTIC! http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t41542 http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t33806 Ciao Ladies! -

Great information. I am sure this will be useful to many! I had no clue about the risks of real flowers! -

Ok... so if you scope out my planning thread you can read all about how crazy worried I was about my hair... I asked a girlfriend of mine (not a wedding party member) to be my "HAIR MANAGER" we did a trial here at home, and she photographed all the stages. I printed the photos all out and brought them with me to Cuba.... 60 pictures in total were printed and placed in a photo album I then went to the local professional beauty supply store and purchased a box of pro bobby pins, joico brand mousse, gel, and ultimate high humidity hairspray. I was ready. On the morning of the wedding we ventured to the salon - I was still nervous. My Hair Manager toted along all of the products we would need. The Barcelo Marina Palace only has one hairstylist -- Maria -- and she was absolutely amazing. An absolutely beautiful woman, so kind and gentle. She really loved a white hair flower I was wearing (from one of those accessory stores) and asked if at the end of my vacation if I would sell it to her for her daughter. I immeadiately gave her the flower, and at the end of our stay -- dropped off other hair accessories, and left all the professional products with her. She was very appreciative. at the salon hair manager In process: nearly done: BM in progress:

I think that the song request is honestly not a great idea.... if you are going to request any song.... make them spanish ones. Bring an Ipod with the docking station and you'll be good to go.

We did ours at 11:00 the day after the wedding. It was great -- and we weren't over tired or exhausted.... -

Ok, so I don't want to be conceited in anyway... but --- I'm gonna throw it out there. My solution is by far the best! We faced similar comments/ideas (not as harsh though) when we discussed the Save the Dates and Wedding Invites. DH and I decided that it was not our place to decide who would want be able to afford physically be able to go To our DW. We also agreed that it was not fair to expect people that had not been invited to Cuba to participate in showers stag and doe other wedding related parties Because.... it was not our place to decide who had the want to go to Cuba. In my opinion, if you are not invited to the ACTUAL WEDDING (DW or not), you should not be invited/expected to attend showers stag and doe other wedding related parties (with the exception of office parties) So, in closing - send STD's and Invites to EVERYONE you will be inviting to your AHR... it is common courtesy.

does your dog fart horribly? mine did, but we figured it out!
Amarillis replied to boscobel's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Great advice, we solved our issues with a change in food. My only word of caution - brush your babies teeth! Hard food helps clean a dog's (or cat's) teeth, by soaking the food, you'll have to be more diligent with teeth cleaning. furbabies.. -
Getting Married at The Iberostar Varadero, April 2010
Amarillis replied to lanakbanana's topic in Cuba Weddings
Umm.... you will also need to send copies of your witnesses passports, along with your own. Faxing the info to the resort was challenging, so I scanned it and sent it as a PDF file - this worked perfectly. You will need to copy your birth certificates as well and send with the paper work that is sent to you by the resort. When you arrive you will need to provide your birth cert, passport, and tourist cards (as given on the plane), to the wedding coordinator. She will also need the passport and tourist cards of your witnesses. So be ready - we had to chase our best man all over the resort to get ahold of his passport! -

Umm... probably not, I'd suggest dinner in one of the a la cartes - My suggestion is the Spanish... it was really quite good. the room is small, so it would be intimate. If I were you I'd make a request to Sandra to have the 'special dances' at the restaurant. What types of flowers do u get to choose from?
Amarillis replied to lanakbanana's topic in Cuba Weddings
I requested sample pics from my wedding coordinator Sandra at the Barcelo Marina Palace, here is what she sent: (I don't know these people so i blinked their faces) Now.... these were flowers that sat on the signing table at our wedding, they were then put in our room, they were quite beautiful and lasted through our second week there. These were the table arrangements as done by the resort, the pink roses were very nice as well. -
Hey Jax! Awesome to see you are back... can't wait to see some pics!!! Sorry - hijacked thread. As for music, DH put together several CD's (not MP3) - for the dinner - for the dance - and special songs (our song, father/daughter, mother/son, etc). We had a Cuban musical trio sing me down the aisle to Besame Muchos, at our cake, champagne and cigar party, there was a four piece musical group that played live traditional Cuban tunes. At our dinner reception, we were delighted to have a 5 piece Cuban musical group - they played fantastic dinner music, and were intermittently relieved by a sax player (equally fantastic), thus we didn't need the dinner music. The resort provided a Audio technician to do the 'special songs' and then play the Dance CD's in the numeric order we gave them to him So, one CD - had only 4 songs on it: our song - Come Fly with Me - Michael Bublé father/daughter & mother/son song - What a wonderful world - Louis Armstrong wedding party song - My Wish - Rascal Flatts first song for everyone - Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers Then the CD's numbered 1-4 labelled DANCE were played in that order when we told the technician that it was time for the bouquet and garter, he went back to the special songs CD and played track 5 and 6 Bouquet toss - Diamonds are a girls best friend - Moulin Rouge Soundtrack Garter toss - Another one bites the dust - Queen He then went back to the numerically ordered Dance CD's and we danced till nearly 1am! It was an amazing time!
