  1. since I'm having a DW, i was wondering if it's necessary to have a rehearsal dinner at all? i mean since we're getting married on the beach rather than in a church what exactly is there to rehearse?! is anybody skipping this tradition or do you think I should have one?? also, I'm thinking of not giving out programs on my wedding day....are they needed for a destination wedding?! I feel like I wouldn't know what details to put on there until after meeting with a wedding coordinator once we get to the resort

    Hi:)

thank you:) i am now officially addicted to this site..lol
  3. i don't think you should plan your wedding around your guests...i mean it's YOUR day & you deserve the wedding of your dreams. Don't matter what you do you won't be able to please everyone so just make sure you're happy with your wedding! I went to RIU Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen on vacation 2 years ago & fell in love with the place, i knew then that one day I would love to get married there! Now I understand that a lot of people might find my choice extravagant for their budget & won't be able to attend but that's FINE with me...the people who matter the most will be there & hopefully will have a fun vacation there....the following year I went to RIU Mambo in Puerto Plata & was very dissapointed because you GET what you pay for (and silly me had very high expectations after my RIU Palace experience). So I say chose the resort you LOVE and don't settle just to please your guests.... another way I would look at it is: would you rather be the one disappointed in your own wedding day or would you rather have some guests be disappointed because it's out of their budget & they won't be able to attend?!
  4. I am also doing both OOT bags & favors... We decided to give out edible favors: jellybeans in our wedding colors (yellow-pineapple flavored & white-coconut flavored..yummy:) in this really cute mini suitcase favor tin. Here's the link: Mini Suitcase Favor Tins, Destination Wedding Favors, Travel Themed Party Favors I personally think guests would expect a favor at the end of the evening, no matter how small...
  5. Thanks Jennifer!! Their guest policy actually makes a lot of sense now...
  6. I'm getting married at Riu Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen on Feb. 12....initially I wanted a small & intimate wedding with only immediate family & friends attending (20-25 people)...however, my fiancee's mother has 10 brothers & sisters & my fiancee has about 30-40 cousins that we see pretty regularly (Christmas, family parties etc) so they kept asking about the wedding and after speaking to my fiancee about it we decide the right thing to do is invite them as well....since I realize a destination wedding can be pretty expensive for guests I figured the majority will not attend but, anyways, my guest list is now about 70-75 people. Anyways, to make a long story short : RIU Palace Mexico has a very strict policy that requires 80% of guests to stay at the resort in order for us to have our wedding there. I'm telling everyone invited that they HAVE to stay at the resort if they want to come...I understand most people might not want to spend that much money but it bothers me that people (my fiancees family) are complaining...it makes me feel guilty & selfish BUT it's my wedding and my dream is to have it on the beach at RIU Palace Mexico!! Since some guests are complaining that the resort is too expensive I was wondering if it would be ok to ask guests to just spend one night there (the night of the wedding....) and the rest of their vacation they can stay wherever they please. Has anybody done this or does anyone plan to do this??Do you think this is a good idea?
